So Sprintlink and xs4all are working on the issue. Let's hope they come to a solution, soon. Paying for a game and not being able to play it at all gets rather frustrating after a few days.

True... but always remember that The Internet is the Network of Networks. There so many possible hick-ups between here and (in this case) Linden Labs.

I'm am very lucky cause I got both DSL (XS4all) and also cable (Wanadoo) and after days of trying to figure out what the problem was I got pointed to this topic.

So I tested and with the exact same config but use of Wanadoo Cable I dont have any problems (well just the normal SL crap i guess lol).

I'm really hoping they will solve this though cause I keep swapping now but not beeing able to swap is much worse of course.

XS4all is a good provider so I'm sure they will try everything they can to make sure it works again.

Same problem here. We also use XS4ALL here and im very satisfied with it. Well... untill last Tuesday ;) The freeze and crash problem starts to get really frustrating :(

Another question: Do all the XS4ALL people here also have problems with their GroupIMs??

I believe that was/is a grid issue, everyone was affected by it, not just xs4all users. They posted about it in the Linden Blog. :)

I wish it was true. Since tuesday i still have problems with my groupIMs. I only recieve and can see what i say in them in the first +/- 20 secs after login. Others CAN see what i say, but i dont see what i say or what they answer me. And since the inworld Helprequest is a GroupIM too.. well... leaves me to sending emails to them and pray and pray and pray it will help.

Do your regular IMs go the same? It's the connection. The xs4all issue just consists of us losing more and more bandwidth around 20 seconds or so (depending on the sim you're in). Mine for instance goes from the regular 500/1000 to 10/20 within seconds, at 20 bandwidth, you can type all you want and others may get what you type, but you won't see it because 20 bandwidth is hardly a connection. You're lagged big time, so you just don't see your own IMs until maybe a few minutes later. It's all connected, if this xs4all issue (or whatever it is) gets resolved, all should be working fine and dandy, or so I'd hope.

Normal IMs are going perfect. The groupIMs are always failing when 'm moren than 20/30 seconds online. Doesnt matter what region i am in. Even at more quiet times in a smooth and fast running empty sim. Well... maybe this is offtopic in this topic and i better open a new topic about this?

Thank God! I'm not alone! ;)
And for me too: I have XS4ALL for many years now. I know i pay some more than at other ISP's, but XS4ALL is so stable here that i don't want to change ISP.
I'm sure this issue will be solved sooner or later. I prefer sooner ofcourse :)

I just tipped IDG's Webwereld about the issue. That may speed up things. Especially since IDG news sometimes pops up all over IDG's worldwide network.

Note: it is not about blaming and shaming, it is to get the matter solved, and not appearing again.

new participant in the thread, same problem:

Xs4all
after login, specific locations: bandwith drops within about 30 sec. from >> 500 to less than 10 kbps, ending at 0.
group IM's wont work in every location
not able to move within seconds after landing in the 'bad locations'
no other commands work like 'site, standup' etc.

however: one time i managed to solve the problem: i asked the owner to restart the sim. and after that my connection was stable.

was it routed differently after the restart ??

I tried the same this morning, this time the restart did not change anything at all. ;-((((

Just received word from the already famous Mr Ralph:

"U geeft aan dat u problemen ondervind met de verbinding via XS4ALL naar
Second Life.

zullen aankaarten."

Translated:

"You say you have problems with the XS4all connection to SL. These problems are known, and our net managers have investigated closely. Currently there is no indication that the problem is in the domain of XS4all, or that XS4all can have influence on any solution.

I can report that we will watch the problem, and as soon as we have an idea what the cause is, we will take action to solve the problem, or raise the question at the correct party."

In other words: no active work at their end...

Exactly the same reply that I received. Basically they're wrong since this *only* affects their subscribers, which makes it an XS4ALL problem too.

That's what I wrote back. We have to make more noise to be heard. If it is not solved then tomorrow I will launch a press release.

I just updated our issue on jira with the reply we apparently all got from xs4all.

Our issue is number 3 right now and becoming number 2 or even number 1 fast if this goes on like this...

Let's wait untill the first workday of the week starts in California and hope something happens.

Vote if you haven't done so yet:

Ok, for the Dutchies, I sent xs4all this reply:

"Beste Ralph,

Linden?
04-23-2007 04:38
A lot of talk about Xs4all, but what about Linden? Since we have 92 votes for the issue, i suppose hundreds of people must have the problem.

Xs4all at least looks into the matter and gives response.

I hear no reply from Linden whatsoever. I don's see this in the blog / bug list. My service request has been unanswered for days.

I would guess it is still very well possible that the problem is caused within the SL domain and not at Xs4all.

Does Linden care at all about hundreds of people that cannot use SL or only in a very limited way? Are they doing anything at all about it?

Greetz,

Jos

Well it seems to be working again for me...at least for now. I can move freely in one of the problem sims, and I have absolutely no packet loss. The only question is how long this will hold...

I am still having the same problems. My home sim (Yeodeol) is one of the "bad" sims. In the 30 seconds I have before loosing the connection I have even bought additional land there. I just had to buy it, it connects to the land I already own.

But for the time being I cannot do anything with my new land of course :( ...

I have not received any response from XS4All so far.

I wanted to hold off posting this, because I didn't know how long it'll be stable for but I've just gone to my house, AND our land on a diff sim to my house and I CAN move at last on both. Everything works.

Ping sim is at 172 and ping user is at 193 and on my land ping sim is at 243 and ping user 241, compared to the constant 10000 that I got for the last 7 days at both!

Who fixed the problem, and just where was the fault. I SO would like to know so at least next time we know who to direct it to.

I hope others are experiencing the same!

:=)

EDIT - YES YES, still working!!

Mr Ralph apparently did some work on it. He says that XS4all thinks the problem is related to:

http://blog.secondlife.com/2007/04/18/inworld-problems-being-worked-on/

To me it is more likely than that XS4all is doing something wrong. However, I have no idea why especially XS4all people are influenced by the "inworld-problems", and still think this explanation is unlikely too...
