However, someone noted on Jira that it was the connection back to the user that was wrong. This makes more sense.

According to Torley Linden in the SVC-124 thread, the route back goes through Hurricane Electric and not Sprintlink. The latest status in that thread:

From: someone
As mentioned earlier, I've received enough ping results for now. (No need to email me more.) I'll post if I need further info, but for the time being -- you can keep sharing your experiences here.

Timo of XS4ALL contacted our operations team and we shared some technical details, including return traceroutes from LL to XS4ALL (as More Marquette suggested). Timo investigated promptly, confirming that there's no QoS used in their network (there were some earlier concerns about that), and when I last heard, he's going to (if he hasn't already) contact Internap and Hurricane Electric and investigate deeper. He'll keep us updated.

This is such a frustration for those of you affected; Linden Lab will do what we can to communicate with the right people so your Second Life experience can return to normal again, and we're also appreciative Timo is so helpful.

Good to know people are still actively working on it. I'm not giving up on Xs4all just yet :)

firewall blocked the ICMP timeout responds
04-24-2007 10:30
2007-04-17T22:03:15Z WARNING: sendMessage - Trying to send AgentUpdate on unknown circuit 72.5.13.96:13006[/QUOTE]

I know that message - I got it after a network timeout. Unfortunately my router/firewall blocked the ICMP timeout signal, when I allowed it the client (sl) gots the message and reacts by shutting down that circuit. So that solved one, but not the cause timeouts for objects retrievals.

Please stick to the facts that we have right now
.........

I am not blaming anyone... But nobody is off the hook just yet...

*laughs*
In my job staying with the facts only would make me slow and bad in my job. Business people move around facts... or better said, we care about the facts later when we have time to do so (and this annoys often people who believe in and life by fact).

(I exaggerate a bit, but there is truth there)

There is no need to blame anyone... a solution we need. That is all.

And last "signs" (*coughs*) are that Linden and XS4ALL are pulling really together to get a solution. That is real good news.

First, go to one of the sims that you cannot move in. Click 'Help > About Second life" and look at it's IP adress. (It will say something like 'You are in sim Whatever on sim1234.agni.lindenlab.com ( 123.456.7.9 ) <--- That's what you need

Then in Windows click on Start > Run. Type in CMD and hit enter. once in the command prompt type in

Tracert 123.456.7.9

Where the number is the one you noted earlier. Then paste what comes out here.

Thanks for this but I am not sure I handled it correctly. Under Help I got:

one reason to change
04-24-2007 16:31
If I change I do it only for 1 reason and that is: I wanna be in SL and going on there. And yes I have a 1st life but I have also a 2nd life like u all. Its not punishing my Demon provider or XS4ALL, but I wanna go on and 2 days ago it looked like nobody would do anything. Maybe we can expect some change of attitude now. Sure hope so.

By contract XS4ALL is only responcible for their own network. For problems within their network you can address them directly. Anything out their network not.... All actions outside their own network is customer support... nothing more, nothing less. But yes, for a serious provider it an duty that they take on... as XS4ALL is showing right now (and done many times before). They do this for their customers.... but there is no way you can demand it.

Morwen.

Linden Lab just needs to do what they need to do to make this work again. The islands are being paid for but we cannot use them. MY service provider (Linden Lab) Needs to address this issue and make the product I lease from them usable. At this time it has been 3 days we can only spin in a circle and I have to begin issuing refunds to retailers. I am trying to wait until after the update to see if any of this is fixed.

Same here, I really don't want to leave XS4ALL but on the other hand I want to go into SL and not be limited. So I am waiting until after the update today just to see if anything changes (gawd knows why I think that should have an effect) and then I'll have no choice but to look at other providers. I can't even stay on my own land for more than 30 seconds, and we're losing money fast from rentals and other stuff. This problem started on 17th April, it's now the 8 days later and still nothing is solved.

Thanks to the guys, and the communications between LL and XS4ALL, and now Sprintlink. I know you're doing your best but can ya go a little faster please before I lose my sanity completely lol.

Here's hoping..

Well, I won't give up on one of the best providers we have over here.

Maybe I have a relative relaxed view on it all (that is because I just go for one reason into SL and that is to relax and have fun). The money I have their means not that much to me. As long my tier is paid my land is safe. Most of my friends there I have MSN or something like that.

And to be honest, with the extreme good weather we have currently, my time behind the computer went down anyway. The time for long dogwalks, riding the horses and reading in the garden is there again...

But that is just me.

Yeah sure it may be good weather outside, and it's good to keep RL healthy too, but some of us earn their RL income through SL so those people will think a little different about all this as you can imagine, one of them is my SL boss and me too

Fingers crossed here though, maybe the update from today might solve things, but not sure there. Anyway i hope the end of freezing and getting disconnected at almost every sim will be solved soon, till then, yes it might be an idea to read a good book or watch tv but still this costs some of us a lot of money in SL !! :(

back to normal?
04-25-2007 01:17
Hi all,

I checked this morning (after at least 4 days of frustration and reading forums etc) and it was working fine !! I went to a few blacklisted sims in my Landmarks folder and it was all well. :-)

I wonder if it's gonna stay this way now. I sure hope so.

If the problem is really solved now (for everyone), then thumbs up for Linden Labs and XS4ALL and Sprint to solve this matter, even if it was after a slow start.

Please post here if you're back in business too. I'm curious if it's just me, or maybe temporary (can't check from work now, different provider so everything was ok here anyway).

Cheers !!

EDIT: My little succes of this morning was around 08:20am CET (GMT+1).

Not Normal Yet :(
04-25-2007 01:24
Sorry, this morning (08.30 GMT+1) was even worse than yesterday.

Just could manage to send some short IM to my friends, not be able to move at all, even at places where i could yesterday.... and i would love to decorate my new place soooo much!!!!!!

Hell , I'm just glad I am not depending on SL to make a RL-living, , but my god it is so frustrating !

Lets keep our fingers crossed and send some good thoughts towards the technicians and all the people who are working at it!

Advising the afflicted to enjoy the beautiful weather while they've got the chance is, no doubt, meant very well. Still, personally, I would prefer to be able to make that choice myself instead of being forced to do it by some silly technical glitch.

All machines have an off/on switch. I strongly feel that machines should do what I want them to do when I choose to switch them on. And the same goes for the Internet - I want to be able to access that any time I like. Fully, with no restrictions whatsoever.

Apart from that: eight days is a long time for a mere technical glitch.

if you can't access SL at all
04-25-2007 01:42
Don't know if this has been said already, but here's a little tip for those who can't use SL at all, i.e. if they get stuck right after logon.

There are good and bad sims, and it could be that both your home location and your last location are both set to a bad sim. In that case you're stuck in any case, shortly after logon.

However, there is a workaround. If you start SL, at the login screen, you can press the Preferences button. When the window opens, you go to the General tab and the first option is to set your Start location. Please tick the 'Show start location on login screen'. Then press the OK button.

Below your name & password fields in the logon screen, you'll see a Start location. You can select either your Home location or Last location, but you can also manually type a sim name. Just type in any sim/region name that has been mentioned in this thread as a 'good' sim.

You'll now be able at least to move around through some of SL. For your convenience, here are a few 'good' sims:
Christels Island, Mills Haven, Troy, Vicina
(these are locations where I own/rent property, so I guess I was lucky)

I was referring to my own position in this. I can understand that other look different towards it... hench the "But this is only me".

But *giggles* at times is would not be bad for some people to spend some more time outside. But again, to each their own....

And surely I do understand that it is for people who make money in SL a complete different story. I am a business woman RL, so I know what it means not to be able to do business as you want too.

Again, it was just my personal view on my personal situation. Nothing more then that.

And yes, I also expect machines to do what they are made for... but by now I know that the Internet is something so complex and depending on so many people/companies/organisation that one has to be suprised that it works at all :).

Eight days is indeed long... which may mean that it is something very complex... or so simple that everyone is looking over it.

Try out sims and offer to go to "my little no problem isle"
04-25-2007 01:55
I read on this site of Sprintlink that they do today again maintenance, then some days no work at all at their network and then more work again. See the link (from Zho Golem)

http://www.sprintlink.net/maintview/

I am curious on the days when they don't work at their network maybe we can use our "network" better.

Further I tried out some "good" sims and my conclusion is this:
Korean1 was bad for me couldnt stay connected there;
Swingers Island was very good, no problems at all, theres a danceclub there with special theme's on sunday evenings, so all who want can go there to do something in SL for fun;
Martys ..... was also good, no problems
Badland was also good, no problems, went to Bad Girls Club there, very very very laggy but no problems with disconnected, chat and movements;
The last "good sim" in the list I didnt try out yet.

Further more I like to say that I'm living on a little island called:
Rainforest, Nephrite Island, 44, 208, 22
and I have no problems there at all. That means that I am already stuck there for 8 days (except my trying out other sims last evening) and who wanna join me (Annabelle Fleury) there tonight is welcome!! Try out if u don't have problems also on my little island. We can talk about the problem or just have fun. IM me if u wanna come and I'll send a tp to you. I will be there from 20.00 GMT is 21.00 Dutch time.

Correction for the above invitation: I forgot about the maintenance even upgrade today so lets see how we are doing after this. Lets first try-out how we are doing after this upgrade and if it's still the same situation then IM me and you all are welcome!!!

The latter, I fear, my poor heart chilled by the thought that Mr. Murphy might have gotten hold of Ockham's Razor and hid it on a secret place, just to give us a hard time :-/
