Well I didn't want to give anyone false hope but I had a stable connection since last night around midnight, up untill just around 8pm today. I even went on the test grid and had it work there, but after that I had some other stuff to do, when I came back the patch had been rolled out and it doesn't work anymore. I logged in and had infinite pings again.

Oh. I almost forgot. But while at my university today I did another trace. At my uni I can log in just fine. Well...

Trace from the VU, no connection problems

Switching ISP...
04-25-2007 16:47
Suppose your local bar suddenly starts selling very bad coffee. When you complain, you either get a "coffee is not good for you anyway" or "Its not our fault, the coffee beans we get which are bad" Oh and yes, the tea is very good! Would you keep returning to that place ? I wouldnt.

Why is it that xs4all seems to use different routing from all other ISP's in holland ? They used to brag about having the best backbone connections. Do we really keep believing they are better even though we experience they are not ? What is the next thing that will break down for xs4all users ? Starting to feel I pay xs4all for services I dont need like big mailbox, VOIP, ip6, endless courtcases, the helpdesk without getting what I do need...

I will wait another week or so, and try to switch to another provider then. I know it is a hassle, with some time without connection. ISP's like to keep it complicated that way.

Ok getting mad here, logged in on 6 o'clock an tried the reuter sim, no problem I'm happy walking all over the sim. An hour later I try it again and now I'm having problems with the same sim. After a couple of second I cant move at all.

I have now installed the WinMTR program. Next time I will do a trace, see what the differences are.

Just noticed that the SVC-124 bug was closed?

I just logged in to a "bad sim" this morning, but the problem still exists for me :(

even worse
04-25-2007 23:56
After the upgrade to v15 I went to this sim and it was worse then ever before. I was relogging all evening. The only positive thing was that I could talk a bit longer in chat so that I could warn my friend that I was stuck. He saw me not stuck, he saw me dancing and sitting at a chair for a few moments. At last I went to my home where I (lucky me) don't have any problems. I made this where I got frozen 5x until I gave up:

You are at 281562.5, 288055.5, 28.5 in 2nd Avenue located at sim824.agni.lindenlab.com (66.150.244.69:13006)

CPU: Intel Pentium 4 Northwood (2806 MHz)
Memory: 1024 MB
OS Version: Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 (Build 2600)
Graphics Card Vendor: NVIDIA Corporation
Graphics Card: GeForce 6600/AGP/SSE2
OpenGL Version: 2.0.3
LLMozLib Version: 1.1.0 (Mozilla GRE:1.8.0.10_0000000000)
Packets Lost: 76/2550 (3.0%)
Viewer Digest: d41e9967-bd06-7599-cf20-d339bf6c1dee

Its mostly only 3.0% packets lost en sometimes even only 2.0% but thats enough not to do anything at all.
Does anyone know how to find the name of a sim? And also how to find names of sims that exist in SL. This sim I copied here, I dont even know the name of the sim.

I don’t think your comparison is not really fitting. If a bar-holder notice that something is wrong with the coffee-beans, he can run to the supermarket around the corner and buy new coffee-beans.
XS4ALL cannot do that. And as I was explained, other uplinks are not very willing to re-route the extra traffic (temporary) through their own network, because it is expensive and puts stress on the own network.

So you want to switch provider? Yes, you can do that. You can go to Tele2 (I hope the people there have their mail back again)… or UPC (you may enjoy the ghost bills and all their restrictions on what is allowed and what not)… or @Home (it can be very relaxing to have regular no connection at all)…

I used to have a <bliep> provider, but since a good (SL) friend suggested XS4ALL, I am a happy Internet user again. The performance of their connection is good (they were rated just recently as the best of the Netherlands on that matter). I have been once 5 minutes without connection… that is a big difference with my old provider, where I had nothing else as lag in SL and was disconnected all the time.

I love the big mailboxes of XS4ALL. Never to worry that someone gets a “full mailbox” message because I didn’t empty my mailbox everyday.
The Spam-filters of XS4ALL are great. I get per day just 3 or 4 spam-messages in my mailbox, so I don’t need a spamfilter on my computer at all.
I do run up-to-date anti-virus software on my computer, but since I am with XS4ALL I never had a virus alert. Why? Because XS4ALL catches them for me.
I know that XS4ALL offers many things I will never use. But I love it to be with a creative and progressive provider.
And even more, I applaud it loudly when they stand up for the privacy and security of people and go when needed to court for that. This makes XS4ALL even a more perfect provider for me…. as company who not only want to make money, but who have things they stand strong for….

I am happy my friend brought me to XS4ALL….

*Gets of her soapbox*

*winks to Colin Splash* Thank you for calling me “Our xs4all forefront woman”. Guess I am a big fan and supporter of XS4ALL :P

I was yesterday on the sim where I have my house (Maia) and there was no problem at all. All looked good, until I TPed to the sim where I have my gallary (Changmi) there I frooze on arrival. Back in Maia all was good again.

I couldn't test to much because I had someone over to help me with my new computer.

I have been with XS4ALL since 1994 and have never even considered changing provider once. Nor am I considering it now, don't get me wrong. But I can't help feeling that the simple fact that this connection disaster affects XS4ALL customers only, means somewhere in their routing, something is in dire need of repair.

It could very well be a hardware issue (a network cable that is breaking down), for up until that dreaded Tuesday evening, everything was going smoothly. And now, to make it even worse, all I hear is a deafening silence from all parties involved.

Must admit, though, that yesterday's update messing up things even more, doesn't help.

When it comes down to real technical things I have to rely on what other tell me. I simply don't have enough knownlegde about things like that.

But I can read/listen very well to what others have to say.

I have a feeling that is something that is just out of their direct reach. But then again, it is only feeling and nothing more then that.

Well i dont know where the problem was, fact is i can move around again totally with no problems. I hope it will stay this way.

TY XS4all, Torey and that server for solving this all together.

Again to me it proves XS4ALL IS the best provider with great service. They didnt leave us stand allone and worked a way to get it solved.

@Cloudy:
You thanking XS4ALL now for solving the problem. Well its bin good for a while before, I don't trust in this any more after *10 day's*.

The only thing I hear is that LL, Sprintlink and XS4ALL are saying is: Were looking into it but it is not our fault so we don't do anything.

Well thank you very much all. GGGRRRRR

All I know is I could not work yesterday evening yet.
The 1.15 version of SL looks good, more stable than 1.14.
But that is unrelated to our problem.

After the update last nightI can move in areas that would drop me after litarly 10 seconds of attempting to move , and unfortunatly one of those areas was my own house .
I`ve been there for 2 1/2 hours now without seeing the packet loss meter even as much as twitch .

So -for me- it does look like its solved .
I`m hoping the same goes for other people affected by this .

Gotta hand it to the Lindens: they sure know how to keep SL an exciting experience, even for residents that are in-world often! Major kudos for XS4ALL as well, for giving us all a great opportunity to show off our traceroute, ping and other assorted network monitoring skills.

Hm. Typing with crossed fingers is harder than I thought it would be, btw.

*giggles*
You think that a certain person at XS4ALL, Linden or Sprintnet just remembered what that cable was for that he or she by accident unplugged on 17 April by stumbling over it?

Hahaha! I really wouldn't be surpised at all, if that were the cause of all this misfortune! For no matter how sophisticated the technology, in the end it's always a human being that pushes the buttons.
