Last night, around 2 AM, I was able to work on my home land in Yeodeol. I have managed to make a copy of my comissioned build up in the sky and started to put Rez Faux scripts into it. Around 2:30 I found out two walls were still missing, so my copy was not perfect yet. And my eyelids had become too heavy to start on this delicate repair action at that time. But yes: I could work normally!

still stuck
04-25-2007 03:49
I am very happy for you Caitlin. I am still stuck in my home bases and a few other sims. Xs4all always gave a great service and i would hate to leave them over this. It sucks thoo, i pay for land, membership and connection and its been since 17th of april i havent been able to do anything on the land we own.
I sure hope this is finally getting solved.

Places that i get stuck in, high packetloss as well:

You are at Tersa located at sim816.agni.lindenlab.com (66.150.244.61:13005)

You are at Bluenose located at sim189.agni.lindenlab.com (66.150.245.125:12035)

You are at Eaton located at sim690.agni.lindenlab.com (69.25.105.122:13004)

We need to keep up hope and faith huh, althoo thats not easy, but at least we know there is been looked at it.

Good luck all and cross fingers and all you got to hope this be over soon.

I have noticed on https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SVC-124 that the status-type of this problem has been changed from 'block' into a mere 'bug', so now I am trying to convince myself that is a good sign |->

One that works now
04-25-2007 05:16
Hi,

I have been walking around:

Hypatia located at sim660.agni.lindenlab.com (69.25.105.92:12035)

That is really walking around for minutes now, without any packet loss.

And yes, this was a bad sim before. I got stuck there yesterday as I did with all sims with IP address starting with 69 (and 72).

So this is looking good. Hope it stays that way.

Well, this is day 8 of a non playable second life.
Conclusion:
All people complaining in this forum are XS4ALL (or Demon, yeah the good old days) customers.
Al least 136 voted on jira and there are undoubtedly much more customers, that didn´t find their way to this forum and/or the jira site.
I did not see any other dutch player, with another ISP, complaining about the kind of bad connections, XS4ALL customers are suffering from.
So, you don´t have to be an ICT expert, I´m not, to conclude that this is really an XS4ALL problem.
A second conclusion is that neither XS4ALL, Sprintlink or Linden Labs are making severe efforts to solve the problem.
Second Life is just a game, that is true, my life doesn´t depend on it.
But I was wandering what will happen when tomorrow the connection(s) to my bank(s) break down the way they do now in SL and XS4ALL will act the same way they seem to do now.
8 Days or more not being able to pay or receive money: that would really give me sleepless nights an more.

I don´t know how and when this will end but I am very, very unhappy with this situation and XS4ALL´s behaviour.

Grtz,
Eva

@hexx: The issue has always been a bug, but it was indeed lowered from "blocker" to "critical".
On the other hand: It has an LL Id, which is good.
My guess is that is was lowered by a Linden because both of these actions were taken in the same timeframe.

I could raise it again (matter of fact: you can too !), but I doubt it would make any difference since it has been recognized by LL now.

no problem at this time
04-25-2007 06:04
Hi,

Went to some other bad sims. No problem at all there. So from 14:00 - 15:00 pm dutch time (5:00 - 6:00 am slt) all seems to be working fine.

Visited one place (that was bad before) for half an hour with no problem what so ever.

Now its maintenance, but hopes are up for me :-)

Time for a RL walk in the sun.

how many victims?
04-25-2007 06:41
I was wondering how many people are suffering/have suffered from the problems with xs4all, sprint and linden labs in the past week. I did some research and I came to an estimate somewhere between 2500 and 4000.

How?
Well, take the estimated amount of dutch people in second life (364000 according to http://blog.adformatie.nl/index.php/entries/second-life-trekt-364000-nederlanders/), calculate what share of that amount of people are actually active (according to this link about 15% tops). You'll come to an amount of active dutch sl-residents between 35000 and 55000.

According to XS4ALL their market share is about 7,3% (of all internet connections in holland, as i read on http://www.xs4all.nl/nieuws/bericht.php?id=114&taal=nl&msect=media). So, in effect, that is between 2500 and 4000.

Of course this is just an estimate. But at least it gives an idea of how many people would probably suffer from this problem.

Well, I compare this in way with a situation I had in RL about a year good.

One of the products we sell had from a certain production-date an production-error.

When one or two customers complained we took it serious, but that was it for that moment.

At the moment people started to complain in masses we took action and got in touch with the company who produced the product.

The same happened here. Linden, Sprintnet & XS4ALL are working on it. What do you want more? That a national catastrophe is declared? Sure, it is bad for the people who make money in SL or have a rental to pay. But all involved parties are working on it.... and the last signs were good. Lets hope they really are.

It was not a longlasting visit :(
The available Betagridislands are hosted on the 72.*** addresses,

xs4all too

So - it's the network - consensus with the nessages indeed.
It's not the account/avatar, it's not the cache, not the sl-client, not the os (linux or windows) and not the grid (beta is the same problem).
Now for the sollution ...

XS4ALL called me
04-25-2007 09:52
XS4ALL called me this afternoon and told me that its not their fault but an American Provider. I said that I dont agree because if they are the only provider in Holland that uses Sprintlink and it doesn't function well, XS4ALL have to force them to repair it or else go away from that American Provider (he didnt say the name Sprintlink but I mentioned it to him). Then he said "we are talking with them"!!!! I sure hope that is the truth!!!
For now we have our hopes on the new release of SL, at least I have.

He (XS4ALL) also mentioned a new article at http://www.nu.nl about the SL freezing problems. I searched but I can't find it. Did anyone see it?

My friend who knows a lot more about computers and Internet is here to help me with installing my new computer. She had to chuckle when she did read this message.

Changing uplinks for a Internet Provider is a bit more harder then for end users as us to change "uplink". I just heard words as DNS updates/synchronisation, rerouting and a lot more nice words she said to me... and then we are talking if we are dealing with a direct uplink, which Sprintnet most likely is not (I learned a lot again today... and I hope I re-worded it all good).

We know from the messages from both sides (XS4ALL and Linden) that they are in contact with Sprintnet. If they say so, I believe them.

But my friend said it is too easy to blame a single provider for something that happens there out in the "bad 'e evil ol' Internet". Specially when this provider is working with other together on solving the problem.

Me too - Me too - Me too

Yes, me too coming from demon to kpn, a firm that became infamous for its website in the wonderful book from Jeffrey Zeldman, called Designing with Web Standards.

Maybe this firm wants another nomination? Looks like it!
Will vote asap, but are a bit sceptical about the effect.

Maybe we should sew kpn?

mmm Morwen,

that is quite possible, I send an email to nu.nl last monday at 11.11, asking them to pay attention to our common problem and the article was published at 17.38, big chance there was some communication between them in the meantime :) So i think we have to give them some credit.

I understand what u are saying Morwen, I just tried to pressure XS4ALL a bit. Maybe because I'm a bit desperate if all will end well.

Managed to log in, downloaded the update, found out that secondlife.com has come to a grinding halt now as well. Been watching the revolving little hand for half an hour in the meantime, whilst trying to get to the login screen.

No connection to the version server, or something like that, it says when I finally get through. Now I'm wondering if it might be better to leave this Second Life to our brothers and sisters in the US of A. Lord knows they can use a Second life over there.
