SL Clothes Previewer 2.0b
12-10-2007 07:01
Johan,
As others have said earlier, as a newcomer to SL just starting with the personalising of clothes, your programme is a real gem. Using it and following Natalia Zelmanov's tutorials I've managed to make my first scruffy t shirt and feel a major sense of achievement!!

One query I have though is that having inadvertantly clicked and cleared the background jpg (head.jpg/upper.jpg etc.) I clicked to reload but the dialogue box will only look for tga files and the only way I can see to get the original jpg image back is to close and reload the SL Clothes Prviewer. Not a major issue I know, but I would appreciate it if someone could let me know if I'm missing something or doing it wrong.

Apologies if this has been queried and answered earlier - I haven't got through the 17 pages of dialogue in the thread yet.

Thx anyway
Hiam

Nah you didn't do anything wrong, I did. A couple pages back I decided after a discussion with someone to change the templates to be tga to keep everything uniform, only I didn't then and can't now (laptop broke.) It's not a big issue though so I'm not really worried about it. You'll probably want to grab Chip's templates anyway (downloads page on this website) to use those instead of just the basic UV templates the come with SLCP.

Wow.

I've never done clothes, but the other day I decided I needed a nice vest, couldn't find any that suits me, so decided to do my own.

I have Chip Midnight's templates, and that's where I started, but L$80 worth of uploading later I still have to make many modifications. Yeah, I know, I could do these tests on the Beta Grid and save the L$s but I'm lazy, and don't mind tossing LL some extra $ now and then.

A little research led me here and I can't wait to use this! I ran it for a few minutes, tried a few things and it seems to work fine here on iMac, OSX 10.4.11, 2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2 Gigs RAM, ATI Radeon X1600, 256 MB VRAM. I'll let you know if I run into any problems later.

I read back to the beginning of this thread and am overjoyed to see that you've been upgrading and supporting this for over a year! If M$, Bungie or Lucas hasn't hired you yet, they're just not paying attention. If the world had 100 more developers like you, all our problems would be solved and we'd all be driving around in "George Jetson style" flying cars by now. Hahaha.

Anyway, even if I never get to use this program for anything serious, I'm so happy to see your great support and periodic updates here.

I'm also glad to see that you're the guy that did the "HANDSHAKE" 2-person animation. I bought this a long time ago and use it all the time! Much more business-like than a hug! (too many business meetings ending in "Uh, good to have you aboard, but was tongue really necessary?";)

I remember, that when I stopped in at your store, I also bought so many other things that I almost forgot to grab the Handshake - the thing I came there for in the first place!

Your efforts are an inspiration to more people than you'll ever know. Keep up the great work!

(makes a note to visit your store to see what's new soon as I log in tonight)

Thanks, should be working now (you may need to refresh the page if it still says "file not found.";) I don't know why fileden loses my files every few months, but I suppose I can't really complain since it's free hosting for the downloads.

Hi Johan,

I read about this app tonight in a book I browsed thru at Barnes and Noble. (a bookstore) I found the link at fileden too, but sadly, it is not working for me either. : (
Can you offer any more suggestions, links? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I just downloaded the mac version and I love this simple straight forward program, I was using DAZ to preview but this is just so simpler. Thank you for making a Mac version and for offering this for free.

Ugh...Previewer Woes
12-26-2007 11:11
I used the Previewer, but everytime i try to see a shirt or bottoms, it doesnt show correctly. My bottoms will be on my legs..like lower calves, and the shirt will be just on my arms..it's like it's turned around or something. Doesn't help me at all.

I'm using GIMP, and saving the file as .targa. I think that perhaps it has something to do with the alpha channel.

Anyone else have this problem?

Yeah, isn't it cool that Ansel mentioned SLCP in his book? He also asked me to write a tutorial for the animation chapter, and didn't realize I'm the same guy who wrote SLCP until I mentioned it in the intro I wrote :P

I just checked and the download is working, so try again.

You turn on the skirt in the Character menu (or whatever the menu is called, don't have the app in front of me right now; there's only three options in the top menu.)

A couple pages ago someone mentioned something about an option in Gimp to rotate the image on export, like a checkbox on the save dialog or something. Try that.

Using GIMP & Previewer 2.0b
01-01-2008 11:15
Youre right! I too was having all my GIP created TGA files load on the Clothes Previewer upside down, and sometimes not at all. The FIX is when you save the TGA file, the last dialog in GIMP asks about Origin At bottom Left...make sure that IS checked, then the clothes will preview as expected. Not sure what happens if you upload to SL with that option however

Not opening
01-02-2008 15:35
Hi Johan,

Thank you so much for this wonderful tool.

I am having only 1 issue...I cant open the darn thing. I downloaded it just fine, but when I click to run the program it pops open for a split second then it just crashes. Could this be a memory or video card problem? What are the optimal settings for running this? THe computer I tried to use it on can barely have SL on it...so maybe its just this computer cant handle it.

/me hopes to get it to work on this comp so she can procrastinate at work some more.

It crashes on start up...I know it's not a problem with my computer cause I used this program in the past but I had deleted it. I'm not positive if I had this problem in the past and resolved it tho...

I searched the thread and made sure the extraction was all fine, and it was...

I have no idea what's wrong. The download is working fine when I checked; the file is around one and a half megs.

clothes previewer

Hi Johan, I'm just starting to learn how to build stuff and was wondering if you could give me some tips on how to use Clothes Previewer. I have Gimp and Photoshop 7 but don't know how to actually use the clothes previewer with them. Is there any kind of tutorial or anything? Thank you very much for the program, Tweed.
