I try to load a tga that I made in gimp and the program just quits.

Yep. I just rebooted my whole computer from power down to power up and the same thing happens. Any ideas?

No idea. Maybe post the tga file so we can take a look?

From: Layla Honi
This program is very helpful but the controls are rather wild to use. I can never get the camera angled right unless after several tries of some wild uncontrolable spins, rotations and zooms. I use a trackman track ball which generally works well.

Slowing down the control rates or control options would be nice.

I'll maybe take care of that once I get a new computer.

Just WOW!
Great job man, i will highly recommend this.
Tried out other programs to preview but they do not even run on my vintage machine without that i quit all other programs. So this program you made is definately a big advantage! Saves loads of time! Thank you so much. Will go check your store as soon as i am back inworld.

I think I deleted that tga but I will try it again with another one. Thanks for responding and I will keep you posted.

Nikki: Try re-downloading.

Also, I want to add my voice to those praising Johan for making this wonderful tool! Up until now I was using OpenSim, which was clunky to use and generally a bad fit for my purposes. SLCP works great with Wine in my Ubuntu 8.10 system! I'm recommending to to all of my friends who make clothing.

downloading

Can anyone suggest a good time to try and download this? I'm trying to get the mac version and have been for several days with no success. The link I'm using is this: http://www.fileden.com/files/2006/10/8/271989/slcp_ppc.zip

May I suggest that, if this project is now open source, it would be a good idea to put it on sourceforge? It might be a lot easier for folks to download.

Hi Johan -
It's looking like your hosting service removed the files at some point. Is there another place where one might download this resource?
Thanks for your help :)

Thanks for pointing it out, I re-uploaded the files. Also, someone PM'd me to offer hosting, so the files may have a more reliable host soon.

Glad to help.

I've put the extra file copy up at
http://www.simplexcreations.com/slcv/

Hoping that it'll help Johan with the problem of the files always being down.

I'm glad to help - and I'm glad I had my storage on Simplex ;)

I have made some modifications.

v2.1:
Added support for JPG and PNG files
Added camera hot buttons for numerous pre-defined views showing seem edges
Moved toolbar into main window so it no longer gets lost when task switching
Fixed camera moving after no longer moving mouse
Changed the rotation system so that the program is more easy to use
Added mousewheel support for zooming
Switched to using frameworks for reduced executeable size by removing un-used linked modules

Sweet, finally someone else extending the project. I should have a new Macbook Pro in a couple weeks, I'll compile your code on OSX after that.

Oh hey I recognize this url. *reads credits in code* Well I'll be darned, a familiar face from the blitzbasic forums! You probably know me through my actual name/username there, jhocking.

ADDITION: Just noticed your other thread about SLCP while going through your previous posts (what can I say, I'm nosy)

From: Bekka Hax
tbh i'm tempted to just rewrite the whole thing as the code is very procedural

Yeah my bad there, I originally wrote SLCP in Blitz3D, and porting SLCP to BlitzMax was the first thing I did with BlitzMax after a couple "hello world" kinda experiments. As is probably shamefully apparent in my embarrassing old code, I was still very much thinking Blitz3D when I wrote it. If you want to gut it and replace everything with OO niceness, don't worry that I'll be bitter or anything :P

From: Bekka Hax
I am considering making the software automatically reload textures when they are updated instead of having a reload button)

I would have done that in the first place if I knew how. If you put in an automatic update feature, maybe PM me to explain how that's done? thanks!

I no longer have a Mac but it seems Johan is getting one in a few weeks, if you can hold on, the Mac version is on the way.

@Johan: I tidied up the interface buttons for PC, when you do the Mac version you may find you want to reposition them again. Hows about some declarations for gadget layout that are OS specific?

?MacOS
column1x=n1
?End MacOs
?Win
column1x=n2
?End Win

etc

Yeah I think i've seen your username about, I cant rightly say I know what projects you've done sorry. Then again I dont post my stuff on Blitz either these days as it never seems rellevent to do so. Who'd be interested in SLCP over at Blitz, for instance? :) I mostly work on server systems these days, plus of course the dreaded day job.

Didn't want to say but yeah :P... I spotted it started out as the MiniB3D WinGUI sample code...

I have not done so yet and dont plan to yet because the variables are all so procedural i'd have to code the same thing numerous times. However for this single update alone it doesn't warrant a restructure of the code, especially as most users seemed to preffer manual refreshing so legacy support would be necessary.

The methodology however is dead simple, I would just check the date the file was last written, then wait around 250-500ms for the file write to finish and close, then reload the texture. A check once a second is more than sufficient and the hard disk drive cache ensures that the actual read operation isnt repeating on the physical disk itself so there's no wear/tear consequences. However it does want to be a menu toggle, and it wants the reload buttons to dissapear and resize the filename buttons when it is on, which means the interface TGadgets want sticking into a linked list or an array aswell.

In short, I couldnt be bothered.

oh I see how it is, I abandon a forum two years ago and now you don't remember who I am. harrumph

Man that is simple, I would never have thought of that. I just assumed there is a Windows event for file updates or something.

Besides this potential addition, ages ago someone had suggested saving the state (what images are loaded, the background color, size of the window, etc.) when you quit so I might slap that in sometime soon.

Probably, but *shrug* why make it complicated :)

Sounds cool, but i'd recommend not to save the state until after the image is sucessfully applied to the texture and build fail safes into the reading of the config file (ie: if readavail(TStream)>=2 ReadShort etc. )

Good luck with it. It occurs to me I might have to draw some textures now so I actually use this program, I dont actually make clothes in SL. I just saw the project and started tinkering... *tries to hide how geeky she is*

Thanks for the tip, but my plan was just save settings on exit.

Neither do I, but it's no different from texture mapping any other 3D model.

Just tried this app out using Linux, running SLPD with Wine. Works like a charm. Haven't thoroughly explored to test if all functions work correctly as I'm not yet familiar with SLPD yet.

Thank you so much for your efforts, I can see already I will finally be able to save wasted $L's since I now can test clothing offline.

Sorry if anyone has confirmed it working under Linux in a previous post. I just do not have the time to read it all.

Have a great day :)
