OK, I've got it on a Mac Powerbook G4, OS X 10.4.9 Can't speak to using it with Photoshop... I use the GIMP myself.

It'll be nice when the layers get to working.. but there's one issure that is going to dramatically limit the usability. Whenever I load a garment texture into it, the avatar background goes to black . This, of course, makes checking anything black impossible.

How about defaulting to a skintone instead... or even choose from a range of tones.

I can see this is going to be a MAJOR help.. and all the $10L upload fees I'll save!

Thanks!

GIMP, Photoshop, same difference. I didn't mean that software specifically, I meant that I suspect SLCP may be taking too much control of the computer's graphics capacity, making image editing apps run unacceptably slow.

SLCP doesn't determine anything about the color of the texture, you do (or rather, the image you make does.) If you want the background to be a different color, then paint a different color.

Also, I have a theory about why layers aren't working and your system would be perfect for helping to test this. Basically, my powerbook is from 2002 and I'm not sure the videocard supports multitexturing. I'm going to test it on a brand new Mac Pro I have access to, and it'd be great if you could test it too. Although the additional buttons for the upper and lower parts are non-functional, the head layer actually works. Try adding an image with alpha transparency to the top layer; it'll load solid, but if you hit the Reload button it should go alpha. Tell me if it is layered on the base properly, or if not tell me what happens.

Well, I do a lot of swimsuit designs.. and the areas that are black that I'm talking about are the "skin" areas, full transparency - there IS no color on them, but they render black in the viewer. (probably because there's no color on them... is this the "don't bother with alpha" problem you referenced earlier? ) That's a real problem when you're working on a black suit or lingerie! Are you saying I need to include a "skin" background along with the garment when I test it? This can be done rather trivially by just adding a generic skin color layer under the garment when saving the file of course, but it would be annoying... ;)

I'm not quite sure what you're asking for here.

I don't have any head bits at the moment, so I'll have to create a couple to do this. I fooled around with some generic things, and did get two layers to appear, but without a real head texture it was impossible to tell what was going on. I couldn't really tell if there was working alpha in the top layer or not. A bikini top mapped onto the head does NOT work very well for this! ;)

EDIT: Nevermind all of that, I just uploaded the beta version with support for alpha layers. I'm not sure the layers are ordered correctly though, so please report any problems.

Again, download link is http://www.fileden.com/files/2006/10/8/271989/slcp_ppc.zip

Yeah, this is a known issue on a lot of systems; you can see it's mentioned several times in the thread. Interestingly, you can start SL while SLCP is running, you just can't start SLCP while SL is running.

Thank you so much for making the Mac version! It's working great for me as well. I think I read somewhere back in this thread or another that you were afraid PS CS3 would make it obsolete. Not to worry... I'm using CS3, but this is so much easier to view the clothes on than the 3D object in Photoshop.

Another thanks for this previewer (Though I'm using the PC ver.)

With a budget of only 40L, there was no way I could upload to check if my top would work.. Thank you!

Oh, a tip for everyone... when you are previewing your top, put your clothes in the SECOND level/tier. In the first layer, put some horrid colour (I use green)... that way, you can check that your transparencies/alphas are working..

It works even better if you use a basic skin tone as your base color... You can even put nipples on it if you want. Just something simple to help with reference points. I do a lot of sexy, low-cut designs where I don't _quite_ want them to show... and others that are transparent enough that I DO want them to show.

It DOESN'T have to be a fancy skin... just a simple skintone with a couple of dark spots.

Very true, but when you're working with fine details.. ie. lace - fluro, contrasting colours work much better...

I also do this for a background while working in photoshop.. working with white, it can sometimes be difficult to tell the difference between it and the 'transparent' background..

Though yes, skin is a good idea too, and I can see where it would have it's uses..

I didn't have time to read through everyones post. But has it been suggested that a light option be added into the Previewer?. I use the previewer for skins but the lighting and that of SL are off (I think). I would also like the options for different avatars or at least for the person to edit their avatars setting outside of SL in the previewer.

This is one of the greatest things I have found yet next to Chip Midnight's templates for content providers in the game. I think you should pat yourself on the virtual back everyday.

I wish I had been more proactive and found it sooner. Thanks to everyone who makes my SL experience a little better. Things like this do make me believe the online community can be a fun experience for us all.

It doesn't work on all videocards, so if it isn't working after closing SL, then it may just not be compatible with your computer. Hopefully SLCP 2 will work on a greater range of machines thanks to the changes I made, but I can't compile it for Windows until I get a new computer, and I'm not doing that until after I move in a couple weeks.

aside from that, it's great!

oo great idea. Not something I can do right away because of RL stuff (eg. I'm moving from NYC to Chicago this week, need to buy a new computer, etc.) but something I'll look into as soon as I can. The main issue is that exporting the posed figures may screw up the materials; I'll have to check if this is a problem. Fortunately, posing SL avatars is kinda my specialty *points to sig*

I've downloaded it on july 30, and was surprised when a friend told me of the broken link, yesterday.

I've put it in 4Shared: http://www.4shared.com/file/21157588/eb0a2a01/slcp.html

It will last there for 30 days as it is a free account. If anyone can put it in a more consistent sharing service, it would be great.

Johan Durant: if you removed the file because don't want to share it any more, please tell me and I will remove the file from 4Shared immediately
