Error with slcp

On my system the program displays: Unable to create 3D scene.
Which could be the problem? |

Have you guys tried reading the thread? There are multiple reasons you could be getting that error, several of which are discussed. Not saying "read the manual, get off my back!" but it'll be more efficient for you that way, rather than everyone going back and forth over this.

Unfortunately, about the only way I could ever have enough time to do a MacOS port would be if my SL business takes off to the point that I can quit my RL job and just focus on SL full-time. Working on that. If you don't have the time, then maybe you could share the source code with a Mac developer who would port it to Mac OS X. PS : There's a big Mac group in world. _____________________

If you don't have the time, then maybe you could share the source code with a Mac developer who would port it to Mac OS X. On the one hand, it's not that simple. The code is written in Blitz3D, and that's not a portable development platform. And even if it was, DirectX isn't a portable graphics API, and let's face it, this tool is mostly a thin GUI shell over the graphics API. On the other hand, there is a related successor to Blitz3D called BlitzMax, and that is a cross-platform development environment. I haven't actually messed with it, but I imagine it's relatively simple to port the code from Blitz3D to BlitzMax so that it'll run on both Windows and Mac. It seems to be pretty much the same thing, only using OpenGL instead of DirectX. The real issue here though is that it costs money. Not much, but BlitzMax ain't free. I may have good reasons in the near future to purchase it, but until then $150 is a bit much to further development of a free tool. See for yourself here: http://www.blitzbasic.com/ I have no problem giving away the code, I'm just saying it's not going to do any good. If you're really interested in doing a tool like this for Mac, I might suggest reading here: http://nehe.gamedev.net/ I have had success compiling their tutorials on a Mac using the built-in compiler (forget it's name.) Yeh even when SL isn't running I still can't open the program. I still get the same error "unable to create 3D scene" SL running at the same time isn't the only thing mentioned earlier in the thread. Among other things, there's the simple possibility that your graphics card isn't supported. In which case, there isn't really anything you can do, the app just won't work for you. sorry _____________________

I was wondering if anyone has had any luck running the program on an Intel based Mac using Parallels and Windows XP? Right now I'm getting the "Unable to Create 3D Scene" message. Before I keep trying to get it to work, I thought I'd ask if it should even be possible. Thanks.

I don't know what Parellels is, but I'm pretty sure the app works in Bootcamp on a Mac. Hey there, I have a mouse wheel instead of a middle mouse button... can I zoom using this? I have a mousewheel. Note that if you press down on the wheel, instead of turning it, it operates like a button. _____________________

I don't know what Parellels is, but I'm pretty sure the app works in Bootcamp on a Mac. Parallels is a PC emulator, a virtual machine. bootcamp requires an available HDD or partition (which I don't have). _____________________

Not that I know of, but there may be in a few months.
ADDITION: I think I mentioned this at one point but maybe nobody noticed it. Mods, can you change the name of this thread and remove "beta tool"? I wish I'd thought ahead when I started the thread; now I want the name to be just "SL Clothes Previewer." ADDITION2: Thanks Strife! _____________________

A cross platform windows/osx/linux solution for this would be ideal really... What needs to happen is an open source project started to address this type of thing

Okay, here's the download for SLCP 2.0a
http://www.fileden.com/files/2006/10/8/271989/slcp_ppc.zip As the "ppc" in the filename indicates, this is a Mac application. It's very ironic that only a Mac version is available, since I designed this to compile with no modification on Windows, but my Windows machine broke a week ago and I can't build a Windows version. Until I get my desktop repaired/replaced, I only have my PowerBook to work with. doh The core functionality is pretty much the same as before, but I have been doing a lot of work to clean up the interface, using the normal menus and file requesters and what not. Personally I think it's especially cool that the window is resizeable now; not an amazing development, but I didn't know before how to resize the 3D rendering along with the window. I can't get layers to work right though, so for now this is the alpha version (hence 'a' in the version number.) Thus the first caveat: don't bother with alpha transparency and the additional layers, just use the base layers to preview with. The other caveat is that I'm not sure how well this runs alongside Photoshop. That's a big problem really, since the entire point of the app is to preview textures while you are working on them, but I suspect SLCP may interfere too much with Photoshop. Mac users, give it a whirl and tell me. _____________________
