Hey Johan

Came across your program while browsing SL tools- very nicely done! I was wondering about what you meant when you said you were working on tools for SL, and now I now- great work.

kenbro, note that the UV coordinates of the model are a little distorted for the male model, since it has the same UVs as the female but the vertices are shifted on the model. Have you tried uploading something and seeing how it looks like on a male avatar? It should be just like it looks on the male in the previewer.

Yes I have uploaded the image and in game it fits the male avatar fine. I do not see the same distortion as I see on the male avatar in the previewer. This prevents me from using the male preview for editing though.

Here are the examples http://quixote.sandlewoodtx.net/preview.htm

I agree with Kenro on this. There is distortion on the upper between the male and female due to the flattening of the breasts. It is only noticeable on patterned and buttoned outfits. When I get the next error, I will screen cap the rpgram and im you so you can see it.
Finally, I realized you need a way to add hair.
Nevertheless thanks again.

Interesting. I'm just using the avatars provided with LL, I didn't change the UVs at all.

kenbro, the images on your preview page are broken. I want to see this.

Hmmm, don't know why they are broken for you but here they are individually...

Weird. I'll take a look at what's going on, but like I said I'm just using the models LL provides so I don't understand this.

Could you post the texture image so that I can test with it?

Sure thing. Here is the tux front I am working on:

http://quixote.sandlewoodtx.net/test.tga

And here is a jean jacket that came with the templates I am using:

http://quixote.sandlewoodtx.net/test2.tga

It has similar distortions so I think that eliminates me as the problem, I hope. :^) This is my first attempt at clothing so don't assume anything. Would I run into problems if I simply use the female preview avatar for finishing the work?

Should this work for previewing skins as well as clothing?

Ditto to the above.
I'll definately second that. Being a new clothes designer using a Mac it would be a great help. Well worth a few L$ donation for a good working tool thats saves on uploads.

This is why game companies employ people just to write tools for the other people to use.

Precisely!!!

Oh, and if you find this useful you can thank me by visiting my store, or just send me some L$ as a donation.

Didn't have time to visit the store, and I'm not much of a clothes designer by any stretch of the imagination, but I did just drop you a tip in-world in appreciation for your time and development efforts.

A Mac Port
12-03-2006 12:16
A MacOS port would be very nice. Would an offer of coding assistance be of use? I've got a G5 and a lot of general programming experience, and have been looking for a good excuse project to really learn how to program it.

Thanks in advance,

Unfortunately, about the only way I could ever have enough time to do a MacOS port would be if my SL business takes off to the point that I can quit my RL job and just focus on SL full-time.

Working on that.

Jason,

I tend to get this error only if I already have SL up and running. Seems the two programs don't like to run at the same time.

Hope this helps!

Good spot, I didn't realize that. Interestingly, they both run at the same time if you start slcp first. That is, SL will start when slcp is already running, but slcp won't start if SL is already running. I'll have to look into why that is.

Inspired by the "straps" thread, I just wrote this little app to help people designing clothes and skins for SL. Basically, it just previews textures on the default SL avatar. You can move the camera around, choose what gender to preview with, and choose what images to apply. Then, while working, you can easily refresh a texture you are working on by hitting the Refresh button next to it; this will reload the texture to the most recent time you've saved it.

It's pretty basic right now but I think it'll be useful, so have at it!

If you find this useful, you can thank me by visiting my store.

The latest version is 1.22

Hey Johan,

I tried to open the app today and it says "unable to create 3d scene" and then the app closes. Would you have any idea how I might fix this?

Thanks in advance!
