Furthermore, as Second Life goes to the Metaverse, and this becomes an open platform, Linden Lab risks lawsuit in court and [attachment culling] will, I repeat WILL be reverse in court.

I don't know what you are talking about, Nolan. You said tip jars hadn't been brought up, someone else (or a couple of someone elses) agreed, and I pointed out that i had brought it up.

(I would have talked more about it at the time, but the thread was moving along rather quickly.)

Who is the "they" who are depending on tips? Who do you think? The same they who aren't charging for events.

Co-opting or watering down your point? I just pointed out that I had mentined tip jars earlier. (But didn't expand on it.)

coco

Um, where do you say "tip jars"? Link please? I am saying that I think it's a viable idea to put out a tip jar and mention it, just as many, many places houses did in TSO. How has your rebuttal got anything to do with my reference to TSO? And again, where do you mention tip jars? I see you making some vague statement about "they" depending upon tips. Jeez, is this a contest ?

"I said 'bread' in post #1003, and you said 'peanut butter toast' later on - so I already brought up peanut butter toast." *groan*

And I don't think people who don't charge for events "depend" on tips. I think they would certainly welcome them though. I think most of them depend on dwell, or just do it because they enjoy it.

So if you're gonna charge entry, make sure you only do events that will attract the old and the wealthy, because anyone newer or poorer will gladly choose a free event over a paid one.

40 avs, L$50 a head, L$2000, still more than Linden ever paid for anyone to hold an event (4 times as much I believe.)

I'm not so sure that people wouldn't pay if it did become the norm. The problem is that it isn't the norm. Ratings parties cost a hell of a lot more back in the day (rating 40 people x L$3 even when it was L$1/rate) and netted you a lot less in bonuses than L$2000 in a day. Granted 'everyone shared' in the booty there, but charging L$50/head _plus_ the dwell _plus_ it being done several times a month could get into the 'worth it' category.

At question is whether or not LL should post money to people simply for having events. In the past, this was L$500. In the end that L$500 would be worth less and less because it simply _would_ cause inflation - whether people cash out or not.
