From: Enabran Templar Or if, uh, you know, you just sit down when you build. Actually, the 15 shields was a joking poke at LL for letting griefers run free in sandboxes..and the slap on the wrist they get when LL actually does anything. I know to sit down (not only safety-related, but keeps me out of my own camera angles)...but... .....then someone often will bomb my build so I can't see it for the explosions...and the Lindens will do jack and sh*t since its 'not a PvP attack'. Also doesn't help when you have to stand up to move because you can't get the camera in place on a big build and get pushed / orbited the second you stand...or you are pushed into another sim or orbited BEFORE you can even sit down to start a build. That's why I was making snide comments about the public sandboxes. The above may have changed, I heard rumors they were cracking down on the sandbox PvP griefers, but being LL, not holding my breath. I've had better luck surviving in combat sims than the last couple times I was in Linden Sandboxes.

From: someone Frack, Welcome to SL! I love the roads too and just bought land (lease) on a nice themed island (Sim). They have roads and trees, beaches and all the things you are looking for. Look me up in-world some time and I will show you some thing that are wonderful and beautiful. Don't let Musuko discourage you. You will soon find out in the forums that there are some very nice people and then are those who use the forums to shoot down others just for whatever reason. Ignore those people, they are the ones who make this "game" unpleasant. Just put them on your ignore list. Have fun, enjoy the program and hope we get to meet one another in-world. I am a SL Mentor and have all kinds of things you can have for free that I have picked up in the past six months. The themed islands sound really cool, but I dont know how comfortable I am giving another player full control over all my in-game assets. If it was a group of players (where any action against me required a consensus) it might be different. But all of the themed islands are technically under the control of one player. I will probably be touring them though. I'd like to see what they are like. Maybe get some building ideas.

From: Enabran Templar Or if, uh, you know, you just sit down when you build. Sitting no longer works (if ever). You can still be pushed if the force is strong enough but, what will happen is, your av will remain seated but your name and "focus" (camera/chat center) will move away and you will HAVE to stand up to get the 2 back in-sync (which, of course, then proceeds to visually push your avatar to where your camera is). It's odd.

I've had better luck surviving in combat sims than the last couple times I was in Linden Sandboxes. Well, the LL sandboxes hav all recently gotten "WEAPONS-FREE ZONE" (or whatever) signs on each side, as well as their titles have changed to include "no shooting" (after I suggested it to Torley to make it even MORE aware of to people--so it also appears on EVERY land tooltip). LL DOES do things about griefers but you have to ALWAYS report the incident first and THEN bitch about it in Live Help. Oh and don't hesitate to inform the griefer you will, have, and/or are reporting them and will, have, and/or are going to call a Linden if they persist. DO NOT SHOW ANY TOLERANCE FOR THEM! The more griefers know they can't get away with it, the less likely they will grief in the first place. These punks CAN be stopped and PERMANENTLY banned from SL. Sure, they can create an alt, but then their alts will get banned too and, eventually, they'll run out of payment options. But, really, LL just needs to make the consequences of griefing more aware of to new users (and teens when they "graduate" to the adult grid since they don't magically mature when they turn 1 . I suggest a few in this thread.

Hi Frack. I know you can't possibly answer all of the responses you got in detail but you could acknowledge the answer I gave you about trees in Second Life. In all of the excitement about renting vs buying etc I want to make sure that you haven't missed the more important information.

From: Dyne Talamasca I'll put up a link to my custom key file later. It is here. Just unzip it and put the file into the app_settings folder (on the PC). No idea about the mac or linux versions ... The file here overides the default keys.ini file (otherwise you would need to keep restoring this file after every new client update). Most of the changes that I made are to the third person controls. I don't really remember what I changed exactly (set it up months ago, and don't have a default keys.ini handy for comparison). The basic idea was to make it more like your average game setup.

I was flying around my neighborhood yesterday and some guy jumped me...he put me in some kind of cage script or something. At first I was kinda freaked out because I was stuck, but then I found out I could just teleport out. He then starts saying "Why didnt you stop when I told you to back there". I just responded with something like "who are you? Why did you stop me?" So I immediately reported him for abuse, teleported back to my house, banned him from the property, and continued building my stuff. I get IMs from him to the effect of "Hey it's a game, lighten up" heh heh. So I guess he was just role playing beign a cop or something. It still seemed kind of obnoxious though. It seems to be a byproduct of the way the game engine works.

The problem, Jonas, is when people think SL is a limited version of what it TRULY is--and then attempt to impose that view on others (such as the griefing twitmunch who decided to cage Frack because he thought SL was JUST a game). Such twitiots need to be taught (with EXTREME prejudice) that SL is NOT just a game--even if their delusioned minds only WANT see it as such.

Maybe talking with a Linden for the abuse report will help Eep.. because those who behave like the cager did.. I have found resist being talked to about it..

I didnt really care...it was a minor annoyance. Once it occurred to me that he wasnt an offical game rep or an obnoxious hacker or something, I pretty much ignored him. In hindsight it was kinda funny. He wanted me to refer to him as "commander", heh heh. I wonder how many otehr random people he has jumped.

When i came to SL i didn't think it was a game. What drew me in was I visited IGE.com to buy game currency for a game i was playing, and i noticed the SL logo. I went to the web site to check it out. I'm always up for new things i though. So i read all the pages on the web site about it. I found some videos explaining what it was for. I was interested. THEN in one of the screen shots i saw a furry. I WAS WOWED. i had to join. So i did. I never saw any furry content til a week later. During that week i danced at The Edge and made small change and bought myself a really really ugly wolf avatar (at the time it was cool looking). But before i was a wolf i played as a female chuckie doll. But one day i came across the original club fur in batak. I met real furries and danced there. Made up enough money to buy a luskwood avatar. back then they didn't have wolves so i picked a kitty. But anyway i settled in and had my share of fun. Now I'm a female purple wolf owning a vendor containing 70 items and I'm the security admin of a furry themed sim "The Forest". I came a long way huh? Anyway I probably would not have ended up this way if i expected it to be a game. i knew what i was getting into. This is just my 2 paragraphs.

The furry fetish is at once disturbing and amusing. The fact that I havnt come across any yet is the main reason I am still here playing.

You're going to have a hard time within a social environment on the internet if you can't handle other people's fetishes. ESPECIALLY if you consider being an anthropomorphic animal a fetish.
You do realise that a fetish is defined as being sexually attracted to an object, or a non-genital area of the body, right? Wearing ears and a tail and going about your everyday business doesn't fall under this definition.

From: someone You're going to have a hard time within a social environment on the internet if you can't handle other people's fetishes. The fact that I dont want my nose rubbed in it means I "cant handle other people's fetishes"? Oh, but I keep forgetting; that the main purpose of the internet is sexual expression. Heh heh I dont really care, because they are rare enough on the mainland that I've never actually seen one yet. Apparently SL really is big enough for the both of us. From: someone You do realise that a fetish is defined as being sexually attracted to an object, or a non-genital area of the body, right? All the references to furrys I have seen so far invlove people that are turned on (sexually) by either role playing as anthropomorphic animals or actually dressing up as them. Most people consider that to be a sexual fetish.

The vast majority of furries - i.e. avatars with anthropomorphic animal forms - aren't into that sort of thing IME. Not that there aren't a number who are, but it's not at all universal.
It's not a fetish; I dress in Victorian clothing but I don't find myself sexually excited by that.

While furry MIGHT be a fetish for a few people, its actually a lifestyle to most. I am not into the sex so i dont consider it a fetish. yes my name is Yiffy but my profile FAQ in the picks tab will explain that...

You can't show ANY tolerance/lenience for these idiots, Frack. Simply report them and call a Linden via Live Help if they persist. It's the only way these morons will even BEGIN to learn how to behave like human beings. Plus, the more people bitch to Lindens about griefers, the more likely they'll do things to PREVENT griefing in the first place, like adding "weapons-free zone" signs to all LL sandbox sides and putting "no shooting" in the land title so it ALWAYS shows up at the screen top and in land tooltips (if the person has them on, of course). Now if LL will just display the TOS (in plain English for everyone--and with a link to translate it if they claim to not know English well enough) in a slowly-scrolling, unabortable window for new residents and teen residents who "graduate" to the adult grid (since they don't magically mature when they turn 1 , perhaps there will be less griefers if they know of the consequences INITIALLY. Griefing examples would help the clueless, too. ZERO TOLERANCE FOR GRIEFING!
