This thread has outlived its perceived usefulness and is thus being closed, fools.

You guys are gonna shit blue lights when you find out it's me..
OOOPS! (Eh I figure no matter who it is - I'm screwed - so I may as well live it up now) Addendum - on further reading it seems these appointees will be given the rank "Hall Monitor" and the power to 'go tell Headmaster on you!' Someone - cue up 'Baggy Trousers' by Madness! _____________________

what a fucked up idea. I wouldnt want ANY of this hypocritical bunch of self serving morons moderating the forums, and certainly not those I've seen volunteer so far.

Love you too Kris! *hugs* ^_^ Sorry, but I simply can't think of a single person who regularly posts to this forum who I think would be a good and fair moderator. And I absolutely don't think any resident should get to do that anyway. |

Just O.O Thank god I don't post much anymore eh? Well, at least we'll soon know the REAL FIC by their names - residents embued with power from the Lindens to censor and punish other residents. Can't get more feted than that! |

"Resident Moderators and Lindens will be able to vote on threads
- Will be able to move threads to the appropriate forum or a “moderation queue” forum for review by Linden Lab (the moderation queue will be reviewed several times a day by Linden Lab staff) - Resident Moderators will not be able to close threads. - Resident Moderators will be randomly assigned to two different Discussion Forums for moderation, and will only have moderation privileges in those forums - At least for the near term, posts reported by the “Report this Post” button will still go to Linden Lab staff for review" Embued with the power to 'move shit around' - and write up detention slips. Also - when required - they shall make the tea. Eh - tempest in a teapot - I'm sure the people most willing to do it are the least qualified, and will have a brief period of riposte as they swimg their newly formed nads... and then life shall settle back down to normal..... psuedo intelectuals on the left - tards on the right - and you and I, Kris, in the middle with a pint and a cigaretter laughing at both sides. _____________________

Like others have said, those who volunteer should be instantly excluded as they're more than likely the wrong people to do it.
Having said that, I think what with making Torley a Linden in a way different to normal Linden creation, and now having select residents having at least some power on the forums, residents ruling over other residents, with all their personal relationships, like and dislikes, is coming through the back door. Oh joy. _____________________

Hmmmm. To sum up the discussion so far:
-We don't trust the residents who volunteer for this because they'll be FIC/power-mad crazies -This sounds like the (unpaid) job from hell Well, that may be right. Only time will tell. But does anyone seriously believe that the forums are working well at the moment? I've seen a lot of potentially good discussions descend into tedious flame wars between two or more parties. Very entertaining for those involved I'm sure but pretty dull for anyone else and not spectacularly enlightening. If this is not the way forward (and I accept that it may fail, new initiatives always have that potential) what is? And yeah, I've put my name forward, though personally I prefer 'Forum God' to 'Hall Monitor'! |

aren't the forums quite well self moderated at this time based on what is being proposed?
For example, whenever someone names names, others set them right, replying that they should change it otherwise jeska's silver hammer will come down on their heads.. and, they change it. If someone gets negative, others tell them to drop it... it ends up only a few flamers fanning eachother.. etc. so what is the purpose then (there is not anything stated in the proposal)? It seems based on the responsiblities and abilities listed that control is at the heart of this proposal and that makes me sad.. not because it is not needed, but because really it should be LL doing it, not a 5th column (btw, I can only come up with 3 column types.. ionic, doric, corinthianic.. ) Perhaps the 5th columners could push toward a system that becomes democratic, moving away from the currently proposed cronyistic (is that a word?) in the near future? unfortunatley, I think it would be unlikely. ![]() I feel if LL really wants "a user-created world" (1st sentence of the proposal), then let us ALL be able to create and impact that world; allow us ALL to vote on the moderators of our chosing!? |

My guess would be - the purpose is to unload as much work as possible to unpaid volunteers, just like with greeters, live help, mentors, wiki contributors etc etc. LL is getting pretty good at this, and it's a fascinating business model to watch. |

Unpaid job indeed. _____________________

Anyone doing any kind of technical support position for a living has some kind of masochist streak in them. Me included. There's a line from Megatokyo about wresting a herd of rabid monkeys....

I wont be volunteering for the role. As it is, I already firmly believe that certain forum moderators do not behave in an impartial and even-handed way. I am not inclined to further promote what is a broken system.

Seriously, who would want to do this? I think I'd rather eat glass. Yup, if anyone wants my clear rap sheet they can have it, I'm not that crazy about signing up for this myself. ![]() _____________________

Because we have not persuaded them to adopt Proposition 830. And there is Robin Linden's post suggesting that we can never trust any statement they make I'd say that's official policy but there would be some kind of self-referential contradiction involved. Since we don't get to see people's rap sheets they can say and do whatever they please and we won't have any way to prove anything about it. So when you initially volunteered your services had you not read the entire post outlining the requirements or did you think that they didn't mean it based on your observed inconsistencies which are outlined above? _____________________

I don't see what is wrong with wanting to help Jeska out. Poor Jeska has to do this all by herself and she needs our help. If volunteering frees up some lindens time from having to babysit us 24/7 and work on stuff that really matters, then I'm up for the task.
