I totally agree. So many people have been attacking me here it's quite silly that many of the posts that have been made remain.

Isn't it funny that so many people who attack me for 'judging' a group of people I have never met (or have any desire to) have no problem themselves attacking me, who they have never met either.

I totally expected to see this: for some people "extend myself = approach".

When I think of "extend myself", I imagine sitting in a chair. Someone approaches me. I extend my hand in greeting.

I don't extend myself by getting out of the chair. Leaving the room. Leaving the building. And taking some form of transportation to approach that person in their building. In their room. In their chair.

Yes, they are nice to look at. However, it does go beyond that. All kinds of art throughout history has included the naked female and male form. They are things of beauty that definitely goes beyond a simple "hooray for boobies" mentality.

I seriously think this went a little too far...

Interesting point, Sunenrec, about "Suicide" already existing as a first name. However, again, that was the choice of individuals, rather than a last name basically foisted upon the community as a Linden choice, with Linden approval, sanction, promotion, and applause.

To sum up my points, since we have gotten so far off the track and all over the map with this:

1. LL approached Suicide Girls to woo them into coming to SL.

2. As part of the package offered, they gave them an exclusive last name and land to play on.

3. The Suicide Girls website is not just an "online community," it is also a for-profit business (owned, by the way, by a man).

4. The academic and special-needs groups given these sorts of considerations in the past were non-profit activities.

5. The first evidence of any non-profit group being given these perks (without having to pay for them, as in the cases of the EBay auction and Wells Fargo) is a porn site.

6. A Linden is the founder of this group with SL, the same Linden, apparently, who approached them in the first place. That Linden has written a glowing description of them in the group description.

6. None of this is good.

First rule: don't stress about the forums. A very small percentage of people really read them at all, especially General. Those of us that frequent them love talking an issue to death...and beyond!

In a few weeks time, this will be done and forgotten with, and the next drama du jour will be upon us.

Cluelessness is hilarious.

I'm firmly in the "I don't give a (insert favorite expletive here)" club. I have never been to the SG site, cause emo goth girls aren't my thing, but if it makes them happy it's cool with me. If you're so thin skinned you get offended by a single word, I'm wondering how you made it to adulthood without sobbing in a corner every 5 minutes. Yes I have known someone who committed suicide, but it's just a word, it's like getting offended by the word "cheese" and expecting no one to ever say it or type it in your presence again.

Well, you're starting to catch on, imo. That's a good sign.

However, as to the word "approach", I'd be careful. What does that really mean? Is a member of SG who makes a comment using that word
a) an official spokesperson?
b) relaying hearsay?
c) involved in the business dealings?
d) even aware that the word may be inappropriate to accurately convey what occurred?
