whats dashi? do you have a recipe for homemade miso soup? all i can find in the stores are the packets and its not the same as what i get at the good japanese restaurant.

Dashi is soup stock. It's useful in all sorts of things besides soup, too. You can buy a powdered form of it pretty easily around here, gettig fresh or making it yourself is a little trickier.

I DO have a recipie for miso, but its not "from scratch"... It doesnt have how to make the dashi, for example. I can try to dig it out of my pile of books, though, if you want.

I will ask my husband about that tonight. We bought a stock of the stuff over in our move and his mother will send us some during the year. He does all of the cooking in the family! Suppose I should of taken the name of Akane, hmmm. He says I can burn water and has kicked me out of the kitchen.
