Eer... I'm not voting here, but if you people who think EVERYONE saying they're an adult here is actually an adult... then man, are you naive.

It's VERY easy to get on here if you're not actually an adult. Someone I know RL who is barely 16 showed up on SL, not knowing there was a separate place for teens. I didn't ask her how she got the account, but it was obviously pretty easy for her.

She left as soon as I told her, but I wonder how many other children have done the same, except not on accident?

The teens that get on here aren't the responsibility of LL, they're the result of lazy parenting.

I used a cell phone that's not even affiliated with my name before realizing that was probably a bad idea and added my credit card... since said girl has a cell phone, I'm assuming she did the same. I'd like to think she wouldn't steal her mom's credit card. :/

One point - this idea that if an actual pedophile acts out his/her fantasies in here, then it's a good safety valve against it occuring irl. Not true. They will do it anywhere, everywhere, and in any way possible, whenever the opportunity arises - the more, the better.

Although I agree entirely with Robin Linden's well-reasoned and well-written policy statement, I would also say this: There will be pedophiles and there will be children on the adult grid, and almost without doubt are right now. The people who are concerned over this have good reason to be concerned, as it is virtually inevitable.

I don't think doing anything to prevent it, though - beyond what Robin stated - would be appropriate. It is the risk you must take in any mature online environment, else there could be no mature environments.

I'd add to this a bit by saying that yes, there are children on the adult grid, just as there are children allowed to play games like Grand Theft Auto. Ultimately their parents are responsible for that, not consenting adults engaging in ageplay or any other adult play.

I think most of the naysayers had a negative IRL personal experience, honestly.

A rather alarming percentage of children run into some sort of sexual abuse in their early years IRL. The numbers tend to match up with the percentage of naysayers against Ageplay on SL, at least the loud ones.

You'll notice the OP took a totally different tone after my "show us on the doll" pun. That pun was intended to be double-sided. I wanted to see if it shocked due to the OP's personal experience, and his reaction seemed to indicate it had.

So now we understand a strong possibility as to why his opinion is so colored, though there's no way to assert it as fact. Still, it would explain a lot. I say this because thinking about it, I feel more pity for him than derision.

Being concerned about a serious issue is one thing, failing to employ logical reasoning and screaming 'you all want to make CHILD PORN LEGAL' when someone disagrees with you is another. Maybe he's not trolling, maybe he's just very simple-minded, or on drugs... but I'm betting on trolling.
