Hello. This is first time to post this forum. I made a program ROKURO that makes tga file for Sculpted Prim. It makes only solid of revolution Prim without 3D tool (Maya or Blender). You can download From http://kanae.net/secondlife/current version for win 32 is 1.04. current version for MacOS is 0.9. I can speak English a litte. sorry..

DOn't worry about your English, you're doing just fine. I was a little concerned about downloading and running a program linked by someone with limited English, but I figured my anti-virus software hasn't failed me yet... so I'd give it a try. The instruction file included in the ZIP archive gives a basic idea of what you're going to get. But to get the idea, I recommend just double clciking the program and jumping right in! It should be noted that this is a WINDOWS program. Looks promising...... I'll take some screenshots and share with the class! Resulted in: Rendered on the beta grid as: As I feared, it seems that LL *JUST* released a fix for the "flipped sculpty texture" bug.... so now the textures generated by this program need to be flipped left-to-right. I'll assume that the poster is going to fix that right away... so let's do a manual flip. Flipped: Rendered on the beta grid as: Obviously this was a bit of an acid test. I took a relatively organic system and tried to make a lathed machine part (or something). But I think this shows some of the strengths and weaknesses of this program. Firstly, the lathe aspect ratio is exagerrated in the program. The finished sculpty is much taller and skinner than the cross section shown in the editor. Large offsets aren't going to produce pleasant results with this editor. Rather than making stairsteps, it will try and average out a lot of your coordinates, (aka "smoothing".) The finished lathed object shows up as a bit.. blobby and uneven. I think this is more of a limitation of the Sculpties themselves, but it's important to note here. I definitely give the poster an A++ for punching this program out so well. it really is simple, concise, and a very good start. Is there room for improvement? definitely. But overall I'd say it's a great first tool for dipping your toes into the sculpty pool.

Could be the restult of the program where it's averaging to slightly different coordinates due to the revolvution (the because it went around a circle it might be grabbing a slightly different height because of rounding error). Still, for organic shapes it'll be wonderful, for example, the mushroom. Wobbly mushroom? But aren't they supposed to be wobbly?

Seems like a dang good start. It's similar to the lathe tool in many 3d modeling programs, which is one of the first things I was taught when I started learning 3d. (Explaination for Yuzuru: lathe is the carpenter's tool where he spins a block of wood to carve it; the 3d tool is named after that. Is that what Rokuro means? And I'm guessing you're Japanese?)
I may finaly get onto the beta grid soon, I'll have to test it then. Also, I suspect people will ask to see the code eventually, that's something to think about.

Thank you to use my program.

Thank you, Winter Ventura. I understand about sculpty texture" bug. I'll change program to flip tga image. And I'll write readme.txt about aspect ratio problem and this program runs win32. Thank you, Draco18s Majestic. I think that it is as you expected the problem of wobbly on the surface. It thinks that this problem can solve it by enlarging the size of the TGA file. When it is outputted, it thinks that the specifications that the size of the TGA file is chosen are taken. Or, it decides that it may be chosen by the option. Thank you, Elle Pollack. Yes, I'm Japansese. ROKURO is Lathe, a potter's wheel. I updated my program and test at beta grid. And, I uploaded my sample data at http://kanae.net/secondlife/please test it. change point is -A name is changed from ROKURO to ROKURO(lathe). -flipped sculpty texture bug fixed

I updated ROKURO.
05-21-2007 18:14
Thank you, Gearsawe Stonecutter,Osprey Therian,Thunderclap Morgridge, for using my tool. "Dou Itashimasite!"
I was allowed to make a tool. I am sorry that an answer becomes slow.
Then, I updated a tool about the following. - When a user press Shift-key, A user can choose more than one control. - More than one control can be chosen by the range designation. - More than one choice Bug fixed - New Editing function - New Menu Option Column type - Export/Import Data Format changed V2
I think that it is especially glad to you at the preparation function of the rotation body for the Hexagon pillar. But, I am not confident of whether a term is right. I want your advice. I will amend a tool by your advice.
I am not confident of the added editing function as well. Please write it to this forum when you don't know how to use it.

I plan the development of the MacOSX edition.
05-23-2007 02:03
I updated ROKURO about the following. -New UNDO/REDO function -Add ShortCut Key -Modify Popupmenu And I plan the development of the MacOSX edition(but it is not universal binary..). I have developed the software of MacOSX by RealBasic. You can download it, but that software is Japanese shareware. http://kanae.net/archives/category/dev/penworks/ Now, MacOSX edition may output JPEG file though I am investigated about the TGA file. Please give me a hint to create tga file on MacOSX by RealBasic.

To jump in and clarify, it seems that the MacOS X version of ROKURO(lathe) is not done/released, and that the program at the link is the Mac version of Yuzuru Jewell's PenWorks shareware application.
I have been running Parallels Desktop on my MacBook to have a Windows session, and ROKURO(lathe) works quite well in that environment. It's let me create some things while I am still not up to speed on Blender.
Yuzuru, thank you for ROKURO!

Wow, that's nicely done Yuzuru thanks alot for this tool. I'd say this is the fastest and easiest way to create a sculpt texture, and the user doesn't need to learn a complicated 3D application. It's perfect for furniture designers and architects. The only additional feature I'd wish for is the option to save the image file in 128x128 pixels. LL recommends 64x64, but it loses some details due to the JPEG compression during the upload.

I am developing ROKURO(lathe) for MacOSX now..
05-24-2007 02:21
Meni Kaiousei,Taper Pirandello,Ishtara Rothschild, Thank you for using my tool!
I hope to release ROKURO for MacOSX within two weeks. Please wait for a while.. The first version save a JPEG file..
To Ishtara Rothschild: ROKURO(lathe) ver 0.6 have image file Option. You can save 128x128 image file by choosing a TGAFile menu. If you can't find a TGAFile menu, please download ROKURO(lathe) latest version.

I'm slow as molasses hehe. He said he was including a readme file as well but I doubt there are detailed instructions as of yet, but its free so might as well give it a whirl I actually did the blender tutorial last night using one made by someone in second life. You might want to try that as well with blender just be patient I'm actualy almost able to use blender now and should be making a sculptie very soon

FD spark. It is actually deceptively simple. Click and move the dots around until you get the shape you want. For example, a flask, you would move several of the upper dots inward. Experiment with moving the dots around and making shapes. Then save what you made. It works just like a texture inworld.

What about flat on one side and sculpted on the other, like a stone for jewelry? does Blender accommodate such a thing?

From: Jon Ree What about flat on one side and sculpted on the other, like a stone for jewelry? does Blender accommodate such a thing? It's not currently possible in Rokuro but I don't think it would be hard to add the feature. In a 3d program with the lathe tool, you would do a 180 degree revolution instead of 360 degrees.

From: Jon Ree What about flat on one side and sculpted on the other, like a stone for jewelry? does Blender accommodate such a thing? blender is pretty much full featured I would think you can make whatever you please. Its not user friendly is all, but in looking at all the 3d programs they are what I would call various different levels of "the hardest application to learn" so pick you hard application and run with it. Patience is the key you need lots of it. When you get stuck and if your the type to get frustrated close it down walk away and do something else and continue another day. Me when I have had my fill or learning (no more then say an hour or two per day actualy due to time) i just close it down and do something I already know how to do. It may be the slow method but in the end I have learned it where others might have given up

And just so everyone knows. Rokuro is compatable with the Wings3d sculptie plugin. So you can make it in Rokuro save it as tga, then change it to bmp in you graphics program. Import it into Wings3d and its there.

Well done Yuzuru
05-24-2007 20:43
While the blogs are full of people moaning about the lack of free tools, Yuzuru gets on with the job and creates one!
This is a simple, limited tool which took me about 2 seconds to work out how to use. Excellent for producing sculptured prims with rotational symmetry.
Well done Yuzuru Jewell and thank you. I look forward to any developments you may add to this tool.
-updated comment-
I just realised it does polygon cross sections too, as well as round ones... wonderful!
