Zip files not working
02-28-2009 22:03
Hello, I am having problems with the zip files linked in your post. 7-zip and the windows native unzip dialog are both saying the file has an unexpected end of file. I tried your mirror site from the december 08 post and I got a mysql error.
Thanks for your help.

Seragon, get the files from PKPounceWorks, e. g. http://pkpounceworks.com/index.php?option=com_remository&Itemid=28&func=fileinfo&id=119 for the exporter. AG, I got word that service was interrupted for awhile due to maintenance, but it works for me now, so go ahead and try it again.

Wings 3D Sculpty Plugin Help
03-03-2009 04:34
To get the plugin to work with any version:

1. Save the download where you can easily find it

2. Copy the file "wpc_sculpty", to the import_export folder

3. Right click and open with, then choose the Wings 3D application from the list

4. Its installed. Open Wings 3D and you should see it on the export list.

*Note: The other files are primatives you can open in Wings 3D and can be saved anywhere you want them.

Looking For The Files? Please Read Me!

Sigh. The original post gives the alternate site, PK Pounceworks, which has proved to be much more reliable than the forum. I've now deleted the corrupt files, but have been unable to upload new copies. Nor am I able to edit the text of the original post.

Here's the full details.

Plugin plus basic templates: http://pkpounceworks.com/index.php?option=com_remository&Itemid=28&func=fileinfo&id=119

Templates for the non-spherical topologies: http://pkpounceworks.com/index.php?option=com_remository&Itemid=28&func=fileinfo&id=120

Erlang source code for the plugin: http://pkpounceworks.com/index.php?option=com_remository&Itemid=28&func=fileinfo&id=121

Can you post the exact symptom you are having? I just tried downloading and unzipping it and I didn't have any errors.

Texture alignment issue
03-26-2009 13:54
I'm using the tricks described by Natalia Zelmanov (http://www.mermaiddiaries.com/2007/06/day-279-sculpted-prims-tutorial-part-4.html) to assign a texture to a material in wings. That works in that a texture is assigned to the sculpted object. I'm using one of the lod maps that's been floating around here.

But for some reason, when I take the sculpt in world (exported 64x64 with no-recentering, scaling allowed) and then apply the same texture to the model, it shows up sort-of inside out.

For this sample, I took the torus model from the original model set provided by Omei, and distorted two edges. The first distortion should be between the left-right edges of the sculpt map based on how it looks in wings. The second distortion is just somewhere along the top edge of the torus.

Here is how it looks in wings3d and in world (wings on the left):

Large size: http://img217.imageshack.us/img217/8431/textureissue.jpg

Suggestions are appreciated :)

And while I'm asking, I have this question as well. When I import an object into SL, the coordinate systems are re-arranged. In wings, the defaults are an XZ plane with a Y vertical axis. This coordinate system maps into SL as "wings(XYZ) => SL(YZX)".

Maybe these issues are related somehow? I dunno.

Im having same issues, sculpt inside out, and not centering, now when i use a mesh from rokuro and bring into wings, i have no problems, but when i use a wings mesh is where i run into problems in wings, ironic i know, but it seems something is off on the wing mesh , the plane at least i think. I havent tested other mesh types from wings, so im not sure if its just plane or like you said, torus to and others.

Hitomi, I can download and verify the files, so I know they are good on the server. There are about 30 downloads a day from the PK Pounceworks site, so if the server were intermittently serving up bad bytes, I think someone else would have noted it. So it seems likely the problem has something to do with your environment.

If you've downloaded the same zip file multiple times, and you always get the same error, you might try reinstalling whatever unzip program you are using, or try a different program altogether. If the errors are not always the same, you computer may be failing.

Sorry I can't be of more help.

Anthony,

Sure enough, you're right. I checked out the plane template on PK Pounceworks and it does have the normals inverted. I remember fixing this a long time ago, but I must have fixed it only on the forum here. The plane is the only one with this problem.

Until I get the archive on PK Pounceworks updated, you can fix your version of the template with the Invert command on the Object mode menu.

Thanks for calling my attention to this.

I dug a bit further into this, and discovered the following: For the torus object, if you take your texture and flip it horizontally and vertically, and then offset it by -16 horizontally and +16 vertically, then it will look the same in wings as it does in-world. All this really means I think is that the application of the texture in wings is somehow different, but that the actual sculpty model coordinates are fine.

For the sphere object, a horizontal offset of +16 is enough to "fix" the texture so that it looks the same in wings as it does in world (no flipping required). Here are some thumbnails showing what I mean precisely (feel free to download).

Original LOD map (I'm not sure who to credit for this, as I've forgotten...). This is what you would use in-world in all cases.

It's ok I downloaded other unzip files like Z zip and get the same thing, the computer isnt more then a month old. Ive downloaded the file over and over not sure if theres another site I can get it from. Is there a way to export it to another 3d program and then export it to SL? Like maybe Blender?

P.S. Z zip says "Data error in 'wpc_sculpty.beam'. File is broken
"Data error in 'wpc_sculpty.erl'. File is broken.

Hitomi, are you by any chance trying to unzip the wpc_sculpty.beam file itself? If so, that would explain what's happening.

Fizz, thank you for bringing this to my attention. You're right -- the UV mappings (which are what specify how the textures are mapped to the models) I am using in Wings don't exactly match those used by SL. I'm not sure how that came to be -- whether mine were always off or the Lindens changed SL at some point. But in either case, I will get it straightened out when I update the plugin for the upcoming sculpty changes. It certainly is my intent that the Wings model matches SL as closely as possible.
