Almia, I'm not aware of any need to update the importer for newer Wings releases. But if you'll post (or send me via private message) the texture that is giving you the problem, I'll investigate it.

its not isolated to just one texture.
its all of them.
not even the logger catches what is going on.
its so strange.
i'm using default settings in the exporter and such.
i even tried to upload a 8x7 model i exported to sculpty and it still failed.

Almia,

From your description, it does not seem like this is a typical problem. It might be that the Wings 3D executable and/or the Sculpty plug-in files have become corrupted. I would say the next step is to totally delete your Wings 3D installation directory (no un-install is needed), download fresh copies of Wings and the plug-in and re-install.

If that doesn't fix it, I would ask

* What OS are you running?
* What version of Wings?
* Where are you getting your copy of the plug-in?
* Elaborate on how it is "freezing". Can you still move the Wings window around? How does the cursor appear, in and out of the Wings Window? Is the Wings' process (werl.exe under Windows) actively using the processor?

Windows XP Pro SP2
Wings3D 0.99.02 Stable
Http://www.wings3d.com/
Links to the Plugin on this thread.

When it freezes the mouse can still move but Wings is totally frozen but can be moved and minimized.

cpu process is at 3% during normal use but during upload of image of sculpty it spikes from 7 megs of ram to 22 then left over a period of time will spike to 90 megs and goes to 80-99 % cpu processing.

after 4 minutes it succeeds in loading image.
seems i just wasn't giving it enough time.
lol
still odd for it to have such a effect on the memory

Problem exporting in Wings 3D
08-20-2008 11:40
Hello all, I'm new to SL but not new to 3d modeling and am trying to export Wings 3D models into SL. I downloaded the plug-in and followed all directions described in this post: (/invalid_link.html)

But every time I try to export a model as a "Second Life Sculpty (.bmp)" I get a message that says "Unsupported Mesh Size".

Does anyone know what the issue is and how I can correct it?

I greatly appreciate any help given.

look for instructions on first page of this thread: /8/20/183764/1.html

and here:

(as already written in this forum several times... sorry, but I probably will never understand why people are not reading before asking the same question again and again...)

I can understand the confusion too. I read most of this thread before I started but I am still not able to make Wings work for me nicely. It just seems that the instruction about the templates does not stand out very well, especially if one starts first with YouTube, which is more for generic Wings.
The instructions may be clear from those who know them, but for absolute beginners like myself, they are really hard to figure out. Because of this, I have pretty much given up on Blender but now I am having a bit more luck with Wings. Even reading the instructions, which are spread out everywhere, it took me a long time to figure out what and where the templates were. If I ever get to the point where I can actually make a sculpty, I can see that my problem has just started because I will want to paint it and that adds a whole new layer of trying to figure things out for software that was not created for SL in the first place.
I sure wish I could just take a 2d pic and say 'make it 3d' :)

Omei, will you be updating your exporter to handle the new non-square sculpt maps capability which is now in the beta viewer?

Yes, I will. But I don't have a lot of time available right now. I'm thinking I'll post an "experimental" version that will export any rectangular mesh, with no options for resizing. Basically, you'll use your 2D graphics app to resize an existing sculpt map to whatever dimensions you want, import it into Wings, model with the usual constraints and then export it, with no option to change the dimensions. Later on, when we've figured out what is useful and what isn't, I'll do an "official" release.

How does that sound?

Works for me, and thank you much. I look forward to having this flexibility.

You are missing the Wings exporter, Josie. It doesn't come with the standard Wings package. Download it from the first post of this thread and install it according to the directions there. If, after that, you're still having problems, post again.

I tried to install the exporter, but when I try to unpack the wpc_sculpty.beam file I get an error message saying that the file is damaged...

Installing it with the install option within Wings3D doesn't work either.

Yael, I just tried it and it worked fine for me. Why don't you try it again. If you still have a problem, there is an alternate site: http://pkpounceworks.sljoint.com/index.php?option=com_remository&Itemid=28&func=fileinfo&id=119

Thanks for trying.

I still can't unpack the file. Yesterday I tried with winrar, today I tried again with winzip. Winzip gives another error message: invalid compressed data to expand (inflate) the file.
I also already tried it with the file from pounceworks, but same problem.

I'll keep searching for a solution :o(

Edit: tried again with the pounceworks file and succeeded this time!

Sculpty exporter for Wings 3D

Hi, I downloaded the Zip files and am using Winrar to extract them. Winrar is saying that some of the files are corrupted when I try to extract them. I don't know what the problem may be, I tried opening them instead of saving them and got the same message. ??

Corrupt files
10-08-2008 11:57
Well, I know this is quite some time after the plugins were posted here, but unfortunately, when I tried to use them they were reported to me as corrupted files.

Is there anything else I can do with version .99.X ?

The SL servers do seem to be having trouble sending the zip files in the first post.

Use the alternative site, http://pkpounceworks.com/index.php?option=com_remository&Itemid=28&func=fileinfo&id=119 for now.

I had a sculpty I made in archipelis designer I wanted to tweek a tiny bit so imported into wings (in .obj format) To test the exporter I tried to export as a sculpt file before manipulated anything... got a error that it was a unsupported mesh size. Why is that? I know its not too many edges.faces/ect because used exact same mesh saved as a sculpty and uploaded in SL without issues.

Tere, without seeing your .obj file, I can't really say. But if you've converted it to a bitmap, importing it has a sculpty bitmap instead of as an .obj should get you what you want.

No issues that I'm aware of, though there may be. But first, what are the dimensions of your bitmap? Wings is not memory-efficient; I would avoid importing bitmaps larger than 64x64.

hmmmm maybe thats issue... its 512 x 256...........

changed it to 64 x 32 and it did load it.. a garbled, unusable mess but did load it.

Change in URL for alternate download site
10-12-2008 15:22
I just got a message from Pavcules Superior saying he had to change the URL for the PK Pouncework's hosting of the Wings sculpty plug-in.

The new URL is
http://pkpounceworks.com/index.php?option=com_remository&Itemid=28&func=fileinfo&id=119

The folksy narative is rambling and not very clear. Why not stick to the basic facts. I m here to learn something not sift out facts out of someones attempt at wit.
