Still having Problems
06-18-2008 13:47
look for instructions on first page: /8/20/183764/1.html I read the instructions... I used the spear with the triangles template provided.. The only thing I did to change the spear was cut off the top and bottom.. This is a test just to see if I could make it work. I didn't want to spend hours on a thingy that wouldn't work. I installed plugin that has SL in the Title. Then I got the Unsupported Mesh error.. I understand why I got it with the cube and even the cone but when I used the template supplied - I don't understand why I got the error... Sorry Crack not trying to take over your issue... |

No Second Life Sculpty option in File/Export
07-01-2008 02:16
Hi,
I've gone through these posts and my apologies if I missed the solution somehow. I am using wings 3d v0.99.03 (which I downloaded yesterday). I followed the instructions on the first page and placed the files in import_export folder. (Note that I couldn't to unzip the files on the first page of this post or Strife's zipped copy - there was some error), so I am using the one downloaded from PK_pounceworks. But the Second Life Sculpty option is missing from File/Export. I've used the install plugin option, re-started wings and no joy ... Could anyone help please? Maggs. |

(Note that I couldn't to unzip the files on the first page of this post or Strife's zipped copy - there was some error) Update: Just got it to work! Went back to Omei's first post and instead of saving the zipped files onto my hard drive, I opened and unzipped the files directly into the import_export folder (no errors). Note that I removed the old files, overwriting them with extracted files. That worked - thanks Omei. |

Glad you solved it, Maggs. I'm not sure what the problem was, but I suspect the plugin file you overwrote was corrupted.

Sculpty Import/Export problems.
07-21-2008 19:31
Hey folks,
Don't know how active the forums are but I thought I'd give it a shot as I'm running out of ideas. I've read this thread a few times and have done everything I need to (as far as I'm aware) to get a basic Wings based sculpty into SL. I've dropped the sculpty.beam file into the imp/exp plug-ins and I get the option to import/export them. I also have advanced menu's on. But it will not actually do it. Unsupported mesh size every time. I'm using the latest version of Wings 3D and can't see an option to change mesh sizes anywhere as per the image in an earlier part of this thread. If I create a sphere it simply creates it, no questions or options. I'm keen to learn a bit of sculpt creation/detailing at a more advanced level (and consider myself a fairly advanced user more generally) but having used Sculptypaint a fair bit I'm pretty sure I'm missing a trick with Wings. If anyone has any thoughts on what I'm missing/not doing/should have done, I'd appreciate it. |

How dumb am I????

Hey folks,
Please ignore the above. I found the little box to select the mesh size. It's been a while since I got flamed but..... |

GenX, in general, your best bet is to start with one of templates that comes with the exporter. That way, you have access to all the sculpty types supported by SL, plus you'll have a UV map, which you'll want as your skill progresses.

Sorry to be a pain...

Okay, this is probably a really stupid question to you people. But I am having a problem with the exporter. Actually, it's the same problem GenX had. But, I can't find the option he used for the mesh size select. Could I get a hand with that please?
Once again, I appologize... |

error: unsupported meshsize...
I've made a screenshot with this little option-symbol in the menu highlighted... But this option hasn't any effect if you got this error whiule exporting. In the exporter it sizes just the .bmp file not your source mesh. As Omei said here several times, you should (better say must) use the templates AND you can't do all deformations, too. Ignoring that will mostly cause these errors. Only if you use NOT the templates and need to build a complete NEW object in wings (but why???), this little option-field lets you select "Slices" and "Sections" (if it's a sphere e.g.) which actually is the mesh size of the object but again... Use the templates and remind the hints on first site of this thread: "Keep in mind that you can only use tools that preserve vertices e.g. Move, Scale, Rotate, Flatten, Slide, ... . If you do something that changes the number of vertices, you MUST UNDO the change. You can't simply add or remove vertices to make things look right, because the vertices will get renumbered and the exported sculpty will be whacked." |

i'm having a problem with the exporter. i import an obj file. then when i try to export it to a bmp, it gives me an error after i type the name i want to save it under and click save: "You must select one object to use Exported Selected"
i'm not using the export selected menu. (screen shot attached) edit: not sure what i did, but i got rid of that error. now when i try to save it, i get the unsupported mesh size error, i tried changing it to all the sizes it says and it still won't work |

I think the answer was allready posted but again.
I want to import a obj or a 3ds into Wings and export it from there. It has 1600 Polygons and has a 512*512 Pixel UVW Map. When i export it i got the Message "Unsupported Mesh Size". When i got the object exported into second Life it is terriby destroyed. Must i sculpture the Sculpt with wings 3d and may not import it with any other format than the wings 3d format ? I dont thing wings has the Functions like cinema 4d. May i have 2 ore more selections of the uvw map in the File or must it be one selection ? Maybe some one could make an step by step tutorial with good look on the texture and the UVW coordinates and map. My meshes were all destroyed and with errors. Buaahhh Help please!!!!!!!!! |

@Ruthven & Vulpis
Vulpis you're right, the answer has been posted here several times: You can't just import a "foreign" obj-file and expect wings3d/the exporter to make a sculpty out of it... therefore there are the templates..... sculpties must have a certain size and structure of the mesh... thats all... |

If you want help, you'll need to be more specific, such as:
1) What file are you downloading? 2) What step are you doing when you get the error message? 3) What does the error message say? It might also help know what OS you are using. |

I've seen a tutorial from Chip Midnight using, IIRC, Max, to project a random obj onto a mesh that correctly conforms to SL's sculpty requirements. The results can be somewhat rough but usable sculpties.

I'm really starting to get angry with this.
every time i try to upload a texture via the import feature of the plugin Wings3D totlaly freezes. its annoying. luckily i found a workaround but not how i like it to be. without the import feature i won't get a perfect uvmap and this is what bugs me. why is it having such trouble when people in the past had good times with the importer. i wonder if it has to do with the Wings3D update. does the plugin need updating probably. |

Almia, I'm not aware of any need to update the importer for newer Wings releases. But if you'll post (or send me via private message) the texture that is giving you the problem, I'll investigate it.
