The user experience and usability of OnRez is so much superior to the ones of XStreetSL that I am frankly shocked to see such a poor decision made on such high enterprise levels. Unless of course LL, along with this, decides to wipe out XSL website and build it anew based on OnRez one. I guess time will tell.

Hmmmm nobody forced the owners of Xstreet and Onrez to acquiesce to LL. Obviously these guys thought it was a good move to go with LL. I know many of you have your panties all up in a bunch because SL has not been performing well lately. But, it's quite silly to assume that everything LL touches will turn to utter crap.
Honestly, all you complainers need to band together, create your own shopping site. And, whenever LL comes around looking to buy it, JUST SAY NO! But, I guess since Xstreet and Onrez did not, lets all hate on LL!!!!

Paying into XstreetSL
01-21-2009 06:41
I hope that the convenience of just paying Exchange Street's profile rather than having to track down an SLX terminal will continue to be available?
It's a feature that makes XStreetSL so much better, in my opinion, and one that I hope you guys will not only keep, but perhaps improve, as it does take a few minutes for the funds to reach my SLX account once I pay him...
Just as important to me, if not moreso, would be a feature to ADD the charges tacked on in a very clear, and transparent way, and allow the vendor to either eat those fees or pass them along to the customer in a way that they can SEE them, and who they are paying.
For instance, if I sell an item for 100L, allow that to be MY PRICE, and allow the customer to see that they're actually having to pay 110L because of the fees that are being tacked on for the transaction. Thus I can choose to either eat this price, and simply charge a slightly elevated price for my products(as many on SLX already do), or to charge the same price and let the customer clearly see that my price hasn't changed, but the charges LL/SLX are tacking on are altering the final cost.

Changing Vendors
01-21-2009 06:42
I don't suppose any of us are looking forward to finding vendors, changing everything in our OnRez vendors over to them and then when they decide to set up a web-based in-world vendor system .... changing again ... sighs

Okay, so trying to unlist my items on Onrez via batch edit... and guess what? It's LAGGGGING. Thank you, LL. Onrez is now running like the grid.

Slaps forhead and sinks LOL!
01-21-2009 06:46
Boy, where to start. For One Onrez has much better search functions (still not perfect though). You dont get 80 billion things that you arnt searching for. So if the search (has better keyword function) it would help. But still even with that, Try searching for a simple pair of jeans. Its very overwhelming. Slexchange and Onrez i find have both great Merchant service. They respond extremely quick. (Hope that stays the same). I think the major concern with this though, is it will be like classified ads are currently now. More people will pay higher and higher amounts just to get noticed and a big competition will start, itll come down (And usually does) to who has the most money to spend on displaying their products. Leaving alot of very talented, quality creators unnoticed. Which is sad because on both Onrez and Xstreet, for a very small amount or with no money spent, their products were easily found. I say lose the commision that Xstreet takes too LOL! I also think, if your concerned about what merchants think about venturing into this, You should have got our responses prior to acquiring it. Just saying would have been a nice gesture towards the people who pay you ALOT of our lindens LOL.

But, I guess since Xstreet and Onrez did not, lets all hate on LL!!!! Your account is too young (unless it's an alt ) to really know what happened with GOM, which was the only L$ exchange system around, way before LL decided to launch their own and the success of which made LL decide they wanted to get in on the action. What happened was bitter between the owners of GOM and LL. LL basically tried to buy them, for something that was derisory from what we were led to believe, and so LL decided to destroy their business by starting their own that could use tight integration with the SL systems. GOM could see where that was going and closed their doors. So basically LL said to GOM, accept or die. They were GOM'd, a phrase that's been used in SL ever since to describe LL stepping on the toes of their customers and competing with them. Do I think this situation is any different? No, I don't. I think ESC would have been glad to get rid of onrez as their interest in SL wained a while ago, and they've always been close to LL. XStreetSL, on the other hand, well it would appear that the developers have been given jobs at LL, and most likely something else and as it's part owned by Anshe Chung, to be honest the lure of some lucre would be more than enough. LL would have just launched their own system anyway, of that I have no doubt, and killed the competition because of their competitive advantage in being able to offer a tighter integration. As for everything that LL do turning to "utter crap". Hell yeah, there's years of examples of that to prove it right.

Still a fair open market ?
01-21-2009 06:50
This causes me a lot of worry , up until now SLX and on rez have been a relativly fair place for creators to sell their goods in an open market, inworld trading stopped being fair when the showcase was introduced , specificaly the fashion section as the same stores have been recieving fantastic free publicity since it started almost a year ago . That is clearly unfair on other creators as they have to pay for their advertising , no matter what they pay they wont get anything as good as a showcase listing. I would like to know if LL are planning a similar type of thing to guide traffic to specific sellers on SLX too and I really want to know what the positive outcome can possibly be ? I believe it is essential for the good of creativity in SL that their is a fair place for people to be able to market their products , and this MUST be independant of LL , I dont see it as a monopoly yet but its clear where that accusation has developed from. There was no reason to take down on rez too.
Not sure if I can post jira links here and I know to watch my step when talking about these things so look at the web part of my profile for a link to the jira where I blab stuff about the showcase , its not linked to this thread just my post so dont go there for slx disscussion.

SL in control of XSTREET
01-21-2009 06:50
So in that case is Secondlife going to continue to line their pockets and take 10% off each sale from the creator? I understand before since the site had to pay their employees and the site costs... Ok if the answer is yes it will remain that way then what is going to stop SL from charging a similar cost on ONREZ.... same deal (site cost and such) I do not think there should be any need fo SL to charge the seller fee per sale....

If you redo XStreet, make sure to include the following:
- OnRez looks better than XStreet, the site is much less crowded and "hectic".
- Add the OnRez Section of Freebies and make it easily accessible, like OnRez does with a click from the main page. While you are at it, you could do something that even OnRez has not done: make a seperate category for 0/1L demos and split it from the freebies. It annoys the hell out of me that demos are listed with freebies.
- Vendors: OnRez inworld vendor system and easy vendor package managment was the best part of OnRez and an innovative (not to mention simple and FREE) way for merchants to set up small stores quickly and without much fuzz. If this feature is deleted or will take a few months to integrate, you will damage the already crumbling SL economy even further.

I got to page 9 and didn't see any response yet from LL as to what will happen to the Xstreet linden exchange functions. My first thought was that it is going away and we will all be back to lindex... I got frustrated as Colossus continued to ignore the question...
To anyone who has read all 33 pages... any response yet from LL on this question.
(make that 34 pages)

No need in complaining, 99% of everyone complaining about things in SL and threaten to close their accounts, chase Mr Linden's cat with a dirty spoon or whatnot, will do NOTHING about it, Linden Labs knows this which is again why end-users are spat upon. Integration of digital worlds in all glory, the bottom line is that LL made the move to purchase these virtual trades because they can gain profit from them, so don't think for a moment it is for the users best intentions, it is for selfish reasons, and as always; money. Interestingly enough all the comments made in response to upset users have been made to avoid the question: Will users still have the quick, lower exchange rate, service to PayPal as per previous instances in XSTREET SL for instance. As for a famous quote that most users who have used Second Life laugh at is: From: someone Second Life is emerging as a powerful new medium for social interactions…It may be the Internet's next big thing. It is funny because the interaction is non-existent with the actual team behind the dream, i.e the whole concept of communication between companies, end-users and Linden Labs employees are just a much of a dream as anything else. Interaction would have been to LISTEN, TALK and COMMUNICATE with users BEFORE a big change. Not only to increase awareness, gain trust and receive extremely valuable input from people who are actually using the services, but also inspire people to open themselves up to communication, so it works both ways. And yes, that should have been applied the amazingly smooth OpenSpace issues too. You'd have thought people learn by their mistakes.. Quality of service has always been outstanding as per third-party companies and the service provided by Linden Labs always frowned upon due to support staff ticking off a list and giving automated replies (go clear cache and let me eat my bagle) so hopefully the XSTREET SL team can teach Linden Labs how to actually do customer support and customer satisfaction. Congratulations on purchasing the services, now invest in a SQL technician to fix the asset clusters, thank you.

So What
01-21-2009 06:59
Yehhhhh it's a merger.... I think the biggest reason why Second Life has been loosing so much credibility is that everyone in there mother is marketing on it and getting linden dollars yippy. Also there is no point in Second Life this is another thing that is talked about all the time.
You guys need to get back to basics and figure out how to take what is here and web in twine them. If you can do this then second life with be a virtual web 3.0. Right now it's just a game that makes Linden Dollars that basically when our market tanks so doesn't yours.
Been a big fan of this company for many many years but the point is there isn't a point. People are logging in for a moment and then logging out. The bounce rate is through the roof. It's the facts and so many people are blogging about it. The point is that you guys need to work with the retailers, small business owners, and other markets to make this a 2 world. You buy it in second life and you can buy it in real life. Yes there are buttons etc but the point is you need to make it even more effective.
Just my 2 cents

the more I am playing with http://www.lindman-design.com 's QuickBuy HUD and system, the more I am liking it - I think this is a viable alternative to SLX for content creators like myself who now want to get the hell out of SLX, or at least, have an alternative web based market place that is NOT controlled by LL. The HUD is a sinch to use for browsing products and landsales, it is painless to get products listed through your JEVN Servers, and you don't need to go to a terminal to add money to your account. Did I mention that creating an account with it is also fairly painless?

From: Catherine Linden f you are an OnRez shopper with a current balance, please transfer your account balances to a Second Life account before February 11, 2009. This short notice is outrageous. I also wonder if LindenLab will go into the vendor business now as well. Or what is going to happen to the XStreet vendor system? And to the users who use OnRez vendors to sell in-world?

From: Sasy Scarborough I am sorry if this has been mentioned in the past posts but so many to read.
1. Onrez allows for resending non transfer items that don't make it to the customer, SLX has always made you fill in a support ticket within 7 days and then you are lucky if you get any response , that function has always been a number one for me to use Onrez.
2. Onrez added a function to their Kiosks to allow residents to click a button to be able to be gifted too, no need to register, it just wanted the key to know where to send , also Onrez usually has the residents key if they have been in world for a period of time without doing that, it is usually only brand new residents that need to...another plus.
3. Onrez Kiosks were owned by the residents , placed on their land by them so no need to submit a ticket and add someone to a group to plonk down something you couldn't move around at your need.
4. Onrez has the bulk edit where you can write all the text you need for numerous items, save then add pics, again a big plus.
5. Being able to type in a designers name John_Doe, at the end of the Onrez link and find out if one of your favourite stores has listings without having to go through everything else that xstreet deems a keyword, a HUGE PLUS .
6. having the ability to add alts to the one account so that residents dont have to log in and out to add items to their dropboxes another plus.
7. Vendors that you set up on the site and then use in world ( I know this one has been mentioned) but these vendors were multi vendors too, so people that could only afford to pay for smaller spaces could have multiple items out with permission of the landlord, thats putting smaller stores and newer designers out of business right there.
8. The ability to set up boxes that were given special permissions, meaning that if you had friends or workers that you didn't want to pay for your items they could be put in as being able to buy from those at no cost, this allowed staff to resend to customers that didn't get items in world, again HUGE PLUS.
9. No Commission for people starting out and wanting to just be able to get some kind of feel for what customer base they were aiming at, again huge plus.
10. Onrez promoting inworld tools that would benefit the retailers, such as the kiosks, boxes, scripts for unpacking, vendors, clickable signs that took you directly to the onrez listing page for that store, again HUGE PLUS and all free for the retailer.
XStreet SL
1. Stolen Content Stolen Content Stolen Content
2. Business in a Box = Stolen Content
3. UGLY pages, that even if you type in the name of a designer will give you everyone else that might have some partial keyword that the site considers your search.
4. Hard to navigate listing tools.
5. Kiosks you have to apply to have put on your land that you have no control over at all, that are purely to put money into and take money out of. YOU CAN however pay directly in people search to exchange street avatar ( for those that commented you had to find a kiosk )
6. Did I mention STOLEN CONTENT.
7. Having to register to receive items from people wishing to send you a gift, doesn't make it easy when they don't have an account already and you just on a whim want to send them something fab.
8. STOLLLLLLLEEEEENNNNNNNNNN CONNNNTTTEEEEENNNNNTTTTTTTTT
I really hope that the only upside I see is that you get rid of all the BIAB's and such Obvious stolen content from Xstreet first off, it is so in your face and so obvious what items are...as well as the fact that the items sold full perms are then resold by everyone that bought the originals, if someone is going to be banned for listing something twice, I think it should be looked into that you can see the same exact items sold by 50 different residents at different prices.
Please consider keeping Onrez online for longer than the few weeks you have said, it isn't enough time, you have only looked at the site as a site, you havent considered the amount of hours it takes to reset up all those drop boxes and listings.
Some designers have hundreds if not thousands of items on Onrez and if they aren't already on xstreet they have to move them, as well as totally be unable to do anything but that for possibly weeks.
Those that use the inworld vendors are also going to have to find suitable alternatives and list those as well , hippo from scratch a whole store worth of products can take days if not weeks to list and set up.
Please don't let us down again, I had so much faith in LL for the New Year Please, please, PLEASE read Sasy's post. Number 4 in particular: 4. Onrez has the bulk edit where you can write all the text you need for numerous items, save then add pics, again a big plus. This makes listing items on OnRez considerably less time consuming than XStreetSL. Especially for items that are being offered in multiple colors/textures. (In my case hair of different shades, but in many cases one clothing item in many colors.) The user interface is much cleaner and easier to navigate than XStreetSL. I've been using both for approx two years, and used SLBoutique before it was OnRez. At that time, SLX was easier to list things with. Since the change to OnRez and newer updating to the listing capabilities, OnRez is by far my interface of choice. I have more items listed with OnRez than XStreetSL simply because it's much quicker and easier to bulk list. They both have their incredible points. XStreetSL has a much larger user base than OnRez, their exchange rate is almost always better than LL and the ability to move funds to PayPal almost instantly is a huge plus. OnRez has the better listing functions, the easier-on-the-eyes layouts, and the in-world vendor system which a lot of us use. I don't understand why in the world you'd buy out both companies and throw away one of them. As many have stated, this definitely feels like a monopoly. You can't fix what you have, so buy out things that work and mess them up. Great idea guys. I expect this kind of thing from LL at this point. I never dreamed I'd see XStreetSL sell out. I'm hoping we see more places like http://shoparmidi.com popping up to bypass this.

From: Vryl Valkyrie Please give them a chance to respond. It is only about 5:30 am in California. I was thinking the same...not to mention there are already like 500 posts within 6 hours. ------ Well this is what it is, things always are changing. I sell and shop on both, but I do like the user interface of OnRez much better. Kinda hoping you would get rid of slx and keep onrez. Things I liked about OnRez: • Easier to use, more organized and pleasing to the eye. • You can have your avatars all under one account (nice for us who have alts). • The gift feature was nice. • Like that you can edit all your listings on the same page. • Oh and well I know it's not staying, but the free listing was awesome! I find that I don't shop much on SLX anymore because there are so many mis-keyworded entries and scams. So I hope you can clean out some of the crap on there. I do like that you can search for items by copy, trans, etc on SLX.
