From: Vryl Valkyrie Hate to correct you on this but sadly.. part of the deal seems to be that part of the staff are now Lindens, including Apoth. I can understand why they would take Apoth on with this skills. However, I think if they really knew the dark ugly truths of some of the staff (I don't mean all) they would reconsider. Even Apoth is not exactly a nice person but he is very talented and skilled. Who knows, maybe now he does not have the stress of owning SLX, he will be a nicer guy. I think his biggest problem is that he listened to Tigress too much. Ok the sun just went back down, lol. SOB. I did not see anything on that. I mean I kinda figured they would take him in.... PLEASE tell me they did not take her? Well on the bright side... Even if they did take some of them at least they will be on a leash now and made to behave as they should. So either way is fine with me at this point.

Several comments: I hope you do not integrate "support" between the two services. Any attempt in the past I have made to contact LL for support has fell of deaf ears with only, at the most, one "boilerplate" bot email being returned. Yes I understand if I was at "concierge" level of spending more money with LL I get real support, but even as a premium member spending $40 a month, I get basically nothing. This will not be acceptable for a merchant system when money disappears because of "grid asset problems" when this Xstreet stuff is integrated etc. Second I hope you do not integrate the xstreet web site in with this one. The SL website is frequently broken, links point to the same page you are on (see xstreet FAQ, the "If you want to read more" link is a link to the page you are reading!) That said I also hope you don't combine the xstreet database in with the rest of SL. With all the issues with the asset servers, are you going to now throw this load in with what is already an overloaded system?? It looks like to me you have bitten off more than you can chew as the core system of SL has so many issues with stability and yet you add even more to your plate! I HOPE what has been a highly reliable and responsive service (xstreet) with no down time that I can recall doesn't end up.... well I think you get my drift. Finally: PLEASE DO NOT ADD FLUFF TO THIS SERVICE AT THE EXPENSE OF RELIABILITY!!!!!

From: FD Spark I saw this email too I am bit annoyed there reason why I don't want to be merchant at Xstreet. bit overwhelmed by the entire thing. If I have to change anything I guess I just won't bother. It was hard enough for me to set things up at onrez OnRez was a better service but Xstreet is easier to set up. Try it out first.

instant withdraws to paypal
01-21-2009 08:19
First i'd like to say a big Thx to SLEXCHANGE!
I've had a business for years and if it wasnt for you guys I wouldnt of done near as well just selling through sl. Your customer service was great! very fast!. Money transfer was the icing on the cake!
As for the new change all I care about is how long it takes to withdraw money. LL is obviously to slow as why everyone likes to go through slex, instant transfer to paypal. I would like to simply know if they will leave that transaction or change to a 10 day wait for any kind of withdraw. If so please state this as it's probably one of the more important things in the changover. I was in the pre-planning of getting an island and setting up business but If it's going to be a slow process for withdraws I won't bother.
I can't speak for everyone but I doubt anyone here is a terrorist or money launderer were simple content creators and I don't need our hand held and get 15 dollar monthly limits and wait days on end to withdraw money we made through our hard work.
I just want one question answered and I'm sure alot of others do. Are you going leave slexchange withdraw to paypal instant as it has been or will this change?
EDIT: I forgot to mention onrez: I have no say in onrez other than business was extremly slow there compared to slex. I believe it had something to do with the extremly long loading time for pages, havent seen anything like it since the 90's. Havent been on in a few months maybe this has changed.

the "Nationalization" of virtual retailing
01-21-2009 08:22
Imagine waking up one morning to find your government had bought up your country's two largest retailers, closing half their locations, and told you it was being done to make things easier on YOU the customer... and that all sales from those stores will from now on be taxed (commission)??? You wouldn't believe it, either.
Having merchant accounts on both platforms, I am strongly AGAINST the buyouts. Xstreet and OnRez should be kept as separate entities, purely to give merchants (and shoppers) an option in the SL marketplace.
Do you want to be able to buy L$ or land? Then go with Xstreet. Do you like a no-commission site or flexible vendor systems? Go with OnRez.
Both sites have their qualities and their drawbacks. Unfortunately, it seems LL is taking the most non-business friendly aspects of the merger (IMHO) and keeping those as the new standard.
I'm very disappointed in the arbitrary timeline set for the closing of OnRez. Though I only have approximately 100 items listed there, considerable time will be needed to move them to Xstreet. Time that some people simply DO NOT HAVE.
What some see as one step forward, is actually two steps backwards.
On that note, I will be posting a sign at my in-world locations (some of which I may have to close, since the OnRez vendors will be gone.... this forces me to use more prims to display ALL my items), and notifying my customers that STFU will not be moving to Xstreet... and encouraging IN-WORLD commission free shopping.

From: VooDoo Bamboo The SLX staff is NOT employees of Linden Labs. Not sure why you would think they are the same but one way to tell they are not... Go visit the Street forum then go visit the LL forum. Enough said. Sorry but I didnt say they were employees I just pointed out they would make a great team, since they both share the same ''vision''

No Upside for Residents
01-21-2009 08:24
No positive longterm benefit can come when an open market system is replaced by a monopoly. Sorry. I don't see the upside to this for residents. Oh, the upside is there for Linden Lab. I am sure the Monetary Exchange in SLX will now disappear or be rendered into a sham and the price of the L$ will be fixed at an arbitrary rate. Also, the censorship which already exists in certain forms in SL will now be imposed on the residents by the only major selling venues. But, as prophets have said for centuries - as above so below (or as translates - as in RL so in SL) Sad, but a sign of the times.

From: Epic Revnik Should have seen this coming; from SL Exchange to XStreet to LL Monopoly. Can you say SELLOUTS!!! It's a fairly safe bet that Xstreet and onrez were given offers they couldn't refuse. something like "Hey guys! We really like your web sites and we'd like to buy them and hire some of you! But no pressure, really. If you don't want to, we can always roll our own, integrate it with the viewer, and well yeah that will drive you out of business but no pressure, honest!"

Yet Again.... The Unanswered PayPal Question
01-21-2009 08:26
From: VooDoo Bamboo I just want one question answered and I'm sure alot of others do. Are you going leave slexchange withdraw to paypal instant as it has been or will this change? Yes, can someone please answer this? Anyone? Anything? If you don't know yet then tell us you don't know, if you do know then tell us what you do know. This question has been asked enough times in this thread and you've, for all intents and purposes, ignored it and answered other questions in the same time frame. Stop dodging it or try to find out the answer from whomever you need to ask

From: Vryl Valkyrie No, not really a monopoly. They just made a good business deal and I am quite certain that Electric Sheep Company and Virtuatrade both did quite well from this acquisition. They are obviously not out to buy all the third party site because this rather new one still exists: http://www.rezzor.comPerhaps they just missed it, or dismissed it as insignificant, which it is. If they revamped their interface to scale for the number of merchants and product categories we need in an exchange, and if most listings weren't in Portugese, then maybe it would be a competing site.

I fully expect that another independent SL shopping site will spring up and build on the good points of both the other two. Once vendors start to put their goods on the new site we will be back to square one. Hell, if I was one of the people behind XLstreet or OnRez I would probably setup a shell company and do it myself. That way I would eventually get LL to buy me out again. Ha ha.. And yeah, no need to have a store at all now, so look out for a load more mainland up for sale in the near future.

There is no law that says a business cannot buy another business out. It happens every day in the wheeling and dealing of corporate world.

This SUCKS - Linden Lab: BACKWARDS
01-21-2009 08:29
Linden Lab: You are BACKWARD. The SL Exchange (XStreet SL) interface and usability of that entire site is horrid. What you SHOULD do is the opposite: move everyone from SL Exchange TO OnRez. The Shop.OnRez.com shopping experience is FAR more pleasant. And more importantly it is FAR easier to manage products and services on the OnRez site. Not to mention each account has their own "Store" ( http://shop.onrez.com/Ari_Blackthorne for example.) Comparing the two, the OnRez is a far SUPERIOR experience than SL Exchange ever was. The only reason SL Exchange has so many more products and users is because SLBoutique SUCKED and no one went there. When Electric Sheep took over SL Boutique, they revamped and focused on usability. BUT, Since Linden Lab have has such nightmare difficulty with anything related to usability, I am seriously not at all surprised you will go the the crappy usability of SL Exchange over the wonderful usability of OnRez. Now, to clarify: SL Exchange does NOT remember settings (Adult on? Yes. NEVER Remembers this.) Too many clicks to do ANYTHING. Have to load and reload three (slow) pages for each product if there is even a slight change. Now, imagine a SLURL change and 50 products: three-hour job compared to about 15-minutes at OnRez. Vendors: Onrez allows vendors that can be used in-world that pull from the "drop boxes" - SL Exchange does not. OnRezz allows multiple SL accounts to be linked to ONE OnRez account. SL Exchange does NOT. Linden Lab: you want to know what functionality of OnRez I'd like to see implemented: ALL OF IT.

Right -- even without any arm-twisting, I can't fault the owners of XStreet for selling out. After all, it's a business venture, and it was a business decision. It's not like they're artists or philosophers.

There is another independent entity on the horizon. But, will it be locked out when it comes to be 'born'. We shall wait and see.

I'm REALLY disappointed with this news. This is bad news to me.
I JUST finished moving my entire product line to OnRez vendor packs, and customizing the vendors into really nice in-world kiosks. Now I'll have to start all over with XStreet-Whatever its name is. I don't even know what kind of vendor system they have, if any, but I'm sure it's not as good as OnRez.
I also liked how OnRez DIDN'T take a commission on sales. Will SL incorporated that feature?
I also don't have the time to read through 43 pages of posts, so I doubt I'll even read an answer to my concerns, if any are posted.
Bad news.

From: Vryl Valkyrie There is no law that says a business cannot buy another business out. It happens every day in the wheeling and dealing of corporate world. You're absolutely correct. LL is within their rights to be as monopolistic inworld as they want. I just think it's bad for merchants and residents. That's all.
