From: Valerius Constantine You seem to be under the impression that once LL has spent the development ans set-up cash, they they will happily say "oh, Never mind" if they get a few strongly worded complaints.
What we are saying is that it is pretty obvious from all the work that has been put into this already, any comments to the effect of "we haven't engraved anything in stone yet" are simple beyond belief. do you think for one moment that LL would spend a *dime* on any of this if they weren't already set on doing it?
Everything they have done in the last two years, and everything they have done and said so far says something diametrically opposed to the impression that were *supposed* to be getting from LL about this.
we're frogs in the pot, and LL is turning up the heat, all the while murmering soothing plattitudes so we won't notice that we're being boiled to death.
-V- Then we'll protest with our wallets. Boycott LL and SL if this goes through. Why stick around and take it up the rear from these people; many of us are paying customers. I say, if Linden does this, we cancel all payment methods, abandon land (because selling it means Linden gets tier from it) and generally pull out of Second Life and bring our dollars with us. Because what Linden fails to realize is that they can have as many corporate sims as they like; without residents, those corporations will leave, profits will slide, and all the good press they've gotten evaporates. Pull out of Second Life and advise everyone you know, both online and in 1st life against coming to Second Life. Mass boycotts can work, especially if the boycotting party is a segment as large as the adult content providers and users of second life.

From: Valerius Constantine in order for a client-side solution to work, the assumption would have to be the those who don't wish to see sexual/violent content will be the ones to bear the burden of avoiding it. Yes, well we know that's not the reason for these shenanigans. But are you agreeing with me or disagreeing with me? I said a client-side solution wouldn't be acceptable myself, and you seem to be telling me I'm mistaken.

From: Rayne Keynes Which is why I quoted Blondin saying himself that PIOF = Age verification, you did read the quote,... right? In case you missed it... Except that, as I've previously posted, it has to be a verified PayPal account, whereas Blondin's casual response suggests that a basic, unverified account might qualify. With regard to credit card info on file, ambiguity remains as to whether it's a matter of payment info used at some time but subsequently deleted, or payment info still on file (i.e. current in account information). From the closed thread, 12 Mar 2009: From: Blondin Linden The idea is that there will be multiple ways to become verified. You will be considered adult verified if you have payment info with Linden, payment info with Xstreet or a verified Paypal account. I believe that the Paypal accounts will satisfy some of the comments by Europeans. If you already have payment info on file with Linden or any of the above, you will be considered adult verified. To which he added an hour or so later: From: Blondin Linden If your credit card is already on file, then you have nothing to worry about. It's a small and picky distinction, but LL plays slippery words rather well, so the door is open to them to finalise on either option.

From: Dogboat Taurog i remember last year with the great openspace rip off. Lindens made a forum, most people objected to the plans, apart from a few that it didnt affect in the slightest, we all made our voices heard, LL "listened" then they changed the openspaces to homesteads and increased the tiers making homesteads the most expensive land to live on. most were abandoned 10 months after the openspaces were put on the market, my partner and i abandoned the last one we had in january, we never even had the chance to break even on it. thats how LL listened to us last time.
we had a discussion on gambling before that, LL "listened" and gambling was banned.
can you see see a pattern emerging? and do you think adult sims won't be next for a tier hike? lets see... I see a couple differences between this situation and some of the other debacles LL has perpetrated in the past. The gambling and banking bans were responses to RL regulation by the US federal government, not issues of "morality". The openspace disaster was brought about by short-term thinking by LL. they failed to see how popular the product would be, and made the mistake of assuming that residents wouldn't use the OS sims as advertised (actually *using* 3750 prims for something other than *nothing*). This is different. this is a *choice* by LL to value *some* of their customers over others. Saying that this is anything else is silly. it boild down to choice. LL is betting that their status as "the only game in town" will keep us quiet and on the books. They are also betting that the "grownup" contingent of SL is less of an economic force than the "disney" contingent. I think that they are wrong on both counts, but only time will tell, I guess. -V-

From: Imago Aeon Nude beaches aren't adult? *laughing* Since when? Well, I was born in the early '60s, and last I heard the nude beach down the coast from where I was born was still there... so that's "since before the Beatles". From: someone These concerns aren't being addressed. As far as I've heard there's all of what... 3-4 sims created for adult content? Um, no, there's over 200.

Do you remember the wednesday afternoon updates when they used to tell those of us who were posting on the blog to go outside and get a life? or two years ago today (1st april) when the login process had effectively the same kinds of comments for you to read as you were logging in? or when they called us blingtards?? we're screwed, this is just a waste of breath and all we can do is wait to see what the final outcome is. I've pretty well stopped all creating, it's a combination of this little adventure and the fact the governance team won't even stop the guy who i share a sim with from using enough of the sim resources to make it possible for me to work in my workroom. but I'm sure when the time comes and he ARs me for adult content I'll be for the high jump sharpish.

From: Neptune Shelman Furry AV's only classed as mature not adult!!
You have to be f***ing joking, I find the concept of any person walking around pretending to be the offspring of a beastial relationship sick, repulsive, f**k me thats beyond extreme!
Have LL gone mad. I doubt that many will agree with you- Yiffing is "adult" Furries are *disney* unless they are yiffing. -V-

From: Saiki Spirt Antros are not even mature, every heard of a minataur? it's offspring of a bull and a human, (or a cross of the 2, whatever) lycans? welcome to fantasy, if you don't like anthros, then just leave, we'll always be here. Hell, Ever heard of *bugs bunny*? Incindently, your "we'll always be here" remark is exactly what LL is counting on. -V-

Hold Your Horses, Linden!
04-01-2009 18:15
Could a Linden please tell me what has been done by Linden to inform the non-English community of these proposed changes?
Apparently, not a lot since many non-english speaking users are COMPLETELY UNAWARE of the changes, let alone of the process which is already underway to implement them!
Would it really have been such a hassle for Linden to use one of its fancy new blogs to inform its users in 4 or 5 major languages? Members who do not speak/understand English wont read the English blog nor come here on these English forums, you know!
The German section of this forum is suprisingly silent on these changes, while the German speaking community on SL is not unimportant. Same happens with the Spanish section on these boards on these changes: not a word, not even official. Italian board the same, it appears. My knowledge of Japanese and Korean is zero so I cannot comment on those though in last 60 days there has been no official announcement from Linden on either so I fear the worse.
How the heck does Linden want to 'seek input from the SL Community' on the whole process when a large part (if not the largest part) of that Community is still completely unaware of these important changes?
My advice to Linden Labs: hold your horses, first make sure you have actually informed ALL SL members and then collect feedback in different languages and let members of all nationalities (representative in SL) participate in the process.

Bickering helps nothing. There are many facets to the adult community on SL, and some might not be everyone else's cup of tea. But right now, Linden doesn't care. They're trying to shaft us all equally. If you want to hep stop this, we need to stop with the bickering, the inter-clique fighting, and the 'it's hopeless' spiel. We are LL's customers. When customers are displeased with a service, they let the company know, usually with their money, or lack thereof. If this comes to pass, I will be abandoning my land, thus making it Governor Linden's land, and unbuyable. I'll cancel my Lindex account, and reduce my tier to nothing. Downgrade to a free account, and cancel my payment information. At that point, Linden will be getting nothing from me.
At this point, we can only hope to let Linden know that we are angry, and that we are not going to take this lying down. We need to let them know that they segregate us, they gut their own profit model.

From: Ilana Debevec I've been wandering around in an alt listening and already people are starting to plan to take advantage of this debacle.. some are planning on being 'AR Squads' to go and torment and drive people out of SL if they don't like their business... the fundies are coming out in force.. the other side are the extortionists "hey, pay us or we're gonna start AR'ing you as being porn filth outside the adult areas..."
yeah, real brilliant idea this is turning out to be... Who exactly? They'd be ARed themselves for harrassment if that was untrue. Not that I can say for sure LL would do anything about the AR. In all my past experience on SL I've never seen anyone slightly aware that a AR hit them (unless it was something age related). So sometimes I wonder if ARs are just a mail that gets fed directly to the furnace. Just a means to pacify the angry AR writer.

So... I wanna know when we started paying you guys to restrict our game or make up these rules for people that are outside of others viewpoints...
Oh I guess we don't
So... I would think you guys should really do your JOBS and provide the game that we are paying for.
The simple solution to this problem is that the people who don't like it don't pay ATTENTION to the things that are upsetting you.
Also, for the people who will no doubt say "but they are providing a service to YOU"
Yes, yes they are but we are getting very little to NO monetary gain from this WE are paying THEM to provide a service that we all can enjoy (some more than others I guess).
My two cents.

I have a question...I know, like we haven't heard that on this thread~
I just received a notice from a group asking if any are interested in buying land. Tier being 30k a month but in July it will be 40k a month due to tier increases by Linden labs. Is our tier all going up too?? And if so by how much? Oi, we really are being screwed over the hot coals aren't we? So not only am I forced to move soon, I am being fast with a what...25 percent land tier increase. Like this really helps me decide whether or not to try and figure out how I am going to survive this "Adult" move. Traffic and sales will go down due to this move and tier is going up too. They do want us all to give up don't they? I mean seriously close all business doors.

From: Matthew Dowd I think implementing this policy will keep the Lindens busy until 2013. Excellent points, but I fear it will be handled like this: From: someone Firstly there will be the extra working involved in being called out to locations by conscientious owners worried whether their venue counts as adult or mature because the venue is in the grey area between the two. Ignore such requests until someone ARs them, then issue a 24 hour "move or be banned". See below for how ARs will be investigated. From: someone Then the extra work involved in visiting places ARed by someone who thinks the venue should be adult (typically based on personal prejudices rather than anything in whatever guidelines LL finally decides upon for adult content) Don't bother visiting or even reading the AR, just issue a 24 hour "move or be banned", optionally returning all objects and reclaiming the land to expedite the move. From: someone Then there's the work dealing with the situations where an owner having been told by one Linden that their venue is mature, is then as a result of an AR subsequently told by another Linden that the venue needs to move to the adult land. Who cares what some other Linden allegedly said, move or be banned. See above. From: someone Add in the extra work involved in dealing "on a case by case basis" (to quote Blondin) with those who wish to have land on the new continent which resembles in some way (e.g. terrain, location, surrounding features, neighbours etc...) their existing land. On a case by case basis the number of square meters is the same, end of story too bad so sad. See, it'll be a piece of cake. --- Yes I'm in a cynical bitter mood today.

It was done maliciously as there were plenty of other breaches around in the surrounding sims but only I got the slap and had to take one of the signs down. I'm a criminal, guilty of a heinous crime. My neighbour, whom concierge keep telling me to AR multiple times to get the attention of the governance team to shut down him and his sim abuse, still gets to go about his business of crippling the sim though. /me shrugs

Of course, something that occurred to me that nobody has mentioned yet. people talk about the number of NPIOF people who are in-world and spending money on Adult/Extreme activities and assuming that all of that business will be lost when this goes through.
Well, one thing that hasn't been thought about is that most people don't have a NEED to get PIOFed, but now they will. So I think a portion of NPIOF people may just go PIOF in order to still play Extreme. Nobody knows how many, of course.... and any speculation would be just that....

From: Argent Stonecutter Um, no, there's over 200.
Still... 200... I'd like to know how much land adult merchants hold, and then who is going to stop the land bots from buying up each sliver and reselling it for huge amounts? Also... Why isn't LL's opening Support tickets instead. Support: Adult merchant? How much land do you own? Merchant: 4095 Support: Your land is at... Etc etc etc But they wouldn't be that organized would they? That would be asking for too much. I'm seeing this for what it is... A ponsi scheme... Or pyramid scheme. They make this land... Push everyone in to concentration camps. Show the investors what they want them to see... But LL's... Who's going to stop everyone from revealing the real world of SL to the investors? *laughs* I doubt it would take long for them to want to explore it themselves, and *laughing* I used to do corp web work. Companies DO NOT want to be on the same server if there is a site that's adult. So, the only option... Turn SL in to wonderland. But here's something funny... At least to me it is... All the JIRA's about adult land have been squashed. Yet when the homestead/openspace fiasco was going on the JIRA were open for voting. So, why... Is there no voting from us about this? Who got to actually vote on this adult stuff? I read that there was a vote... Was it the stockholders? Corporate? Or was it the Sunday prayer group? *laughs* Yeah, I'm bitter, but I see something I used to love to spend time doing being reigned in tighter then a victorian woman's corset!

From: Couldbe Yue pity it won't work. Too many people are hooked on sl to ever do that. LL know it which is why they feel they can behave the way they do and get away with it. Users might not have to, if LL has miscalculated, and adult businesses lose enough customers they can't pay tier. Or if mature sims remaining on the mainland can't, when the lose the rent from adult stores with vendors in the malls those sims depend on for income. The job will be done for them if the things they come to SL for aren't there anymore. If LL is lucky, the move may increase business by organizing it, but odds are some businesses will go under. Whether people approve of adult activities in SL or not, the fact is, they're part of what keeps the lights on at Linden Lab. Betting on money from education and business may not be a hot idea. The economy is not helping higher education budgets. School administrators may question the wisdom of spending money for a presence in SL no one uses. I hope the new policy works out for the best, but I can't say I'm very optimistic.

I'm running that payment info stat counter in both my main shop and in a pg shop. Interestingly my kinky shop has about a 40% npiof while the other shop has around 25% I don't know what this means in the long term but I suspect a lot of people just don't want to be associated with the more 'adult' things this world has to offer. either that or the kids keep sneaking in for a bit of titillation.

From: Imago Aeon Nude beaches aren't adult? *laughing* Since when?
You know... they were never in France -south coast (Cote d'Azur) - Cap d'Agde - there is a nude beach...holy shamalamadingdong.... Bukkake Bliss is a lame joke against that. Tourist area, families area and the hardcore area(s)....rock around the clock... But since LL has no clue about the world outside....I repeat: no clue! (I think the last american who visited France was Fred Astaire or Gene Kelly?) This whole planet is pure sex! Ah,what do I tell: the whole universe! Think on the flying sentence: " a star is born"....(The parent stars must have had kinda sex before...) Copying (translation exuality) is obviously the main *principe* of all what is the case everywhere. Visit a rosegarden and you learn: roses are h**kers! A rosegarden is literal a: redlight district. And the bees going crazy to meet them right in their most intimate zone: the sweet nectar filled middle of their blossoms... Decision: roses are adult! Very! Bees too! Transfer to Ursula! PIU and Aristotle.

From: Viciously Llewellyn The problem with your argument Valerius, is that you are putting things in quotes that were never actually said by Philip Rosedale. It's called "satire" Viciously, I was paraphrasing. You have to admit that Phillip sure *sounded* pretty adamant about SL becoming an all-ages platform. I was simply highlighting it. -V-

From: Patasha Marikh Bambi - there is a Mentor's community sponsored by LL in world. The problem is they have basically done the same thing to it as they are doing to 'adults'. There is no incentive for someone to make an effort to be a mentor. To become a mentor took months of hoop jumping, and once you became one... well you get a tag and you can go to help islands, that's about it. There are no feedback sessions with LL where mentors can discuss with them issues that are ongoing. Mentors get no heads up or the ability to give feedback on changes LL makes that directly affect them, (when LL dumped Orientation Islands and started shuttling newbies directly to Help Islands). The Mentoring chat in groups are pretty much ignored by LL, well unless someone posts something offtopic in it, then a Linden will come screaming to stop using chat inappropriately. But if someone asks a hard question regarding something happening on a Help Island... crickets.
LL stopped accepting applications for Mentors several months ago, so it looks like it's another dying area of SL. Agree, if LL is trying to put the money where their mouth is, then they should be doing something constructive and helping its residents to enjoy and navigate this complex SL but no. They rather spend more time, money, human energy, and pump the scarce resources into fixing something that is a non-issue to start out with. I wonder if they know what their priority is???
