Sorta half read "Lexa Hastings" as myself and really wondered how drunk I obviously had to have been. Whew!

I have read it since I first saw it as some odd combination of us

Funny, I had never heard of Mr. Erection until this thread. But I keep hearing how he is the most popular person in SL.

Well Mr. Erection is pretty popular with everyone, except the lesbians of course.

Quote from the community standards:

From: someone
5. Indecency
Second Life is an adult community, but Mature material is not necessarily appropriate in all areas (see Global Standards below). Content, communication, or behavior which involves intense language or expletives, nudity or sexual content, the depiction of sex or violence, or anything else broadly offensive must be contained within private land in areas rated Mature (M). Names of Residents, objects, places and groups are broadly viewable in Second Life directories and on the Second Life website, and must adhere to PG guidelines.

What is it if you don't?

Ok . . . All this talk of supporting erections and all that then I see that quote from Soft Linden. I am mildly laughing now. Sorry.

That's because strap-ons take all the worry out of trying to support Mr Erection.

O... about 50 or so trafficbots should provide adequate support

*****Well Mr. Erection is pretty popular with everyone, except the lesbians of course.*****

Actually, Ivan is pretty popular with that crowd as well. I've never seen him discriminate against anyone of any gender, sexual preference, etc.

Guys, the name was a joke. That's all, a joke for grown-ups. There supposedly is no one in the main grid EXCEPT adults and is it wrong that many of us have a healthy sense of humor and like to laugh?

One is a pretty thin skin if they are offended by someones name, LOL.

Also, the reason I took exception with you guys in calling SL a video game is because, to many of us, it isn't a game at all. Some people make their living in here, how is that a game?

I met my soulmate in here. We have been together 3 times in RL and will eventually marry in RL. How is that a game?

So, people live here, work here, get married here, party here, go to church here, in fact, this is a big part of their lives.

Sl, in many cases is just an extension of RL.........Not a game. Of course, many may use it as a game, but many more do not.

Make jokes all you like, but it does not in any way alter the rules, nor does the fact that everyone is supposed to be an adult change them either, nor does the fact that he is well-liked make the slighest bit of difference.

He picked a mature name that does not conform to the guidelines, guidelines he was very well aware of since you have to agree to the TOS before you can do anything.

You are of course entitled to have the opinion that the fact that names or profiles can't contain anything mature is ridiculous and you can do whatever you want to get it changed, but until it actually does change you did agree to the rules as they currently stand.

None of this would have happened if he had signed up as "CrazyIvan" in the first place so the fault is ultimately his and his alone. And yes, LL should have notified him but they never do when they change names, groups, profiles, or land descriptions so that's hardly anything new.

Yes, the name was a joke. To some people it was funny and fine, and to some people it was offensive. You mentioned that some people go to church in SL, so let me ask you something. Would Ivan go to an RL church with a sign round his neck saying that he has an erection? See what I mean? It's offensive to some people. Being an adult doesn't mean that everything is fine. If it offends some people, then it's best left out of a public place altogether, regardless of it not offending other people. It doesn't matter how nice the person is in other ways - s/he is offensive to some people in one way.

To Ivan's credit, he did ask for a name change a long time ago. Now he's got what he wants and the only gripe that I see is how LL did it. In this case, it's no big deal, because it's what he wanted. I really don't understand why this thread has gone on so long and stayed on topic throughout.

No one was really offended by the name I think. The problem was the apoplectic ranting over the way the change was handled, the Patrick Henry channelling and tired First Amendment waving. Almost everyone here agrees Ivan was treated shabbily, and it is no surprise, as that is SOP for Linden Lab (tm). But in the bigger picture of SL being a world and life unto itself, if that is what it is to you is that it is small potatoes. he was minorly inconvenienced. It's the RL equivalent of the meter maid giving you a ticket one day for parking in a spot that technically is illegal but would go unnoticed. IF SL is the wonderful world you believe it to be, this should be a shrug worthy issue.

It has confused me, Brenda, but maybe not for the reason you think. I'm just not used to an argumentative thread in this forum where I am not the bad guy - and I feel all disoriented :(

I know I'll regret posting in a firestorm of a thread like this one (I'm a professional lurker), but:

It strikes me that the DJ's unhappiness could have been avoided if LL enhanced their service to allow name changes. I've had a quick search through JIRA, and have found the following:

http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-4867

My limited experience of using the issue tracker and voting on issues, is it *can* make a difference, but doesn't always,

just a thought,

Yet. It was never LL's intention to make SL adults only forever.

Who said they were actually offended by it?

People just said they saw why LL picked that name to change. Quite a Big Difference.

Lots of people make their living playing games.

I met my soulmate in here. We have been together 3 times in RL and will eventually marry in RL. How is that a game?

My Grandfather met his second wife at a Pinochle tournament.

Yes SL is an online game where many people play house.

who said Games were not an extension of Real Life?

Don't care if they are or they aren't........But how did you get that I thought they were; from what I wrote.......Do you guys even read the posts before you respond?

My intent was to express that those of sexual orientation different than mine, are not discriminated against by the crowd I hang with. That certainly does not imply that lesbians are attracted this way either, nor am I attracted in their direction.

Who cares? We all share the same Island Home in this Universe and can get along.

I was talking about Erections.
