From: Elora Lunasea A misunderstanding then. It sounded like you'd given it up, perhaps because of the disillusionment you'd recently voiced about that and other things. However, I still don't think you're a guy and you can call me Hun too whew, thanks!!! And yeah, I am disillusioned with the business...but I still love modeling itself. I really want to be doing more photo work. So, if ya'll need a model for your ads...call me, I'm in the book!

From: Brenda Connolly Maybe it's racism. they think you are German. hehe, I remember a German getting offended at being called hun. The whole thing's clouded by regional differences, for example it's quite common for strangers to call you 'luv' where I come from, especially among the older generation. Elsewhere in the country it's seen as comical, patronising or even offensive. So if a woman calls you 'luv' in SL, it could be a patronising guy, a fake female or a 50-something Yorkshire woman.

From: Cristalle Karami Not in this particular forum. Yes in this exact forum. Regardless this thread is promoting prejudice against what must be at least 15% of the total population of SL. It amazes me that it's acceptable to some to constantly harass residents who choose to have an avatar that is not the same gender as their RL. It hints at homophobia, although often these virtual transgenders are not at all gay. This thread is offensive to human beings. Not really funny at all.

I sometimes call people m'dook (my duck), picked up from visits to Nottingham, where everyone says it. I just think it's funny.

Are you reading something more into this than there actually is Angel? There doesn't appear to be any overt value judgment made in any of the posts thus far of whether cross-gender rp is a good *or* a bad thing, merely indicating what evidence might reveal the act prematurely. You might just as easily have a thread asking for people to suggest characteristics by which escorts can identify worthwhile clients. If the stereotypes described are amusing then there is even more chance of those men, who wish to take their role playing seriously, remembering the hints. Pep (Good shoes!)

I think the point of the joke was how to tell your girlfriend is really a guy. Which would imply that said "girlfriend" is not being honest about who they are.Nothing homophobic about wanting to know who or what you are emotionally involved with.

People can be who or what they like in SL. I find I instinctively treat female avatars as female and male ones as male even though I know they might be the opposite in RL whatever their profile might say.

I would not consider it anti transgender, I have some very good TG friends in SL and they would laugh just as hard at that list as anyone else.
And on the Hun thing, it bothers me in RL when someone I dont know calls me that too, but I dont tend to suspect the girl behind the counter at starbucks is really a guy in drag....but now that you mention it......hmm... will have to look closer next time......

hell I call people hon... enough that the people I chat with start to do it too...
Mainly because I hear it so much around here as a standard bit of conversation in RL.
I guess it is a regional thing, I try to reign it in if people tell me that it bothers them...

I guess it's good we have threads teaching each other how to out the identities of our neighbors real lives.

Sure? The way you wrote that is a dead giveaway that you're probably not.

Angel is reading WAY too much into the OP. It's just a little humor. It's hardly "offensive to human beings."

Thanks for the belly laugh. Posts don't get locked every day in here, it only happens on occasion, when Millie or Cybin can be bothered. A look at the most recent pages shows very few locks.

From: Kelli May Another suggestion was the size of hands, because a man might not think to make them small enough. I kid you not. I'd be in serious trouble then. Size 0 hands an feet are still too big f'r kid avvies of either gender. I've seen more than a few folks over time that, well, you jes "know," ya know? Not through hand size or stuff like that, but plenty of other hints.
