I feel the same way you do Rhaorth and have to agree with you, Strauss and Alicia on this.

I still enjoy reading the RA forums as useful info is posted here and the occasional chuckle. However, when I've gone to the Forum Cartel Hangout, in general I've felt largely ignored, and I consider myself a generally friendly, outgoing person.

(Case in point - won the Halloween Trivia contest and not one person said peep to me. Not looking for pats on the back but gah!)

Aww Czari, sorry to hear your first experience wasn't that great. You have said nothing to flame darlin, and besides I find others tend to flame The forum cartel and the Forum Cartel are usually defending themselves. Putting that aside, 3Ring has a point. I see so many people come in, everyone says hi to them, they sit for like 5 min maybe and then leave. I see people complain that no one strikes up conversation with them, it does go both ways and I really wish people would not complain about the cartel when they really aren't giving it a chance or jumping into conversation. Czari, I urge you to come back to the hangout any time and join the conversations or start one up yourself. People there are so super friendly but you have to put yourself out there. :)

Funny how when confronted they quickly try to change the topic in the thread to silly, pointless banter and move the spot light off their acts of entitlement/double standard actions. Especially when a serious topic is trying to be hashed out. Certainly speaks for it self and their lack of any real defense on their part. Sad really and shows why we need a unbiased moderator ASAP.
Then why don't you and Rhaorth volunteer?

I just read this thread and I have something to point out to those who feel its existence is evidence of some kind of double standard or favoritism.

The Forum Hangout is a community resource for the forums. Its only purpose is to provide an inworld drop-in place where forumites can run into each other. As a community resource for THIS COMMUNITY, I think it is entitled to a little special handling.

Not a lot, but a little. In a world where we had forum administration, the best handling might be to create a subforum just for the hangout. That is impossible currently. So, the occasional thread letting people know that the hangout exists and is e sponsoring an event where, again, we can run into the avatars of folks posting here, seems not that big a concession to make for a community resource.

That said, I would VASTLY prefer it if threads concerning Hangout events were entitled: Forum Hangout <blahblah> instead of, in this instance, "Alt Party!!!!". I can see why people question how a thread titled "<something> Party" is different from all the threads in Events titled "<something> Party". In fact, I think it is arguable that if the party is not held at the well-known location of the Hangout, it should be advertised in Events and not in RA. But I'm not willing to go back and forth on that one. Please, Claire and Stormy, at least put a big sign with landmark giver in the Hangout during the party so those trying to find the party aren't puzzled.

For anyone that came by for the first time last night, I, for one, was somewhat insane. I was trying that multiple client trick for the first time and for one stretch I was literally in more than one place at a time holding more than one conversation at a time. I was, as I have already noted, quite insane last night. Sorry to anyone that might have been less than gruntled by my actions.

And: 1) it was creepy to dance with myself which somewhat caused me more trouble; 2) my alts do not seem to like each other, for some reason. Well, there is at least one reason, all but Lexxi tends to be locked away unable to log into SL most of the time.

Edited to add: Um - for anyone that came by last not, regardless if this was your first time or not, sorry.

Czari - I can absolutely understand your point here, but if I may, can I encourage you to try the hangout again, and just make noise?

I've found typing things in open chat and being ignored happens to me quite a bit...but anyone who's suffered through my presence knows that I'll keep coming back for more.

Reason I do it? Every once in a while, it gets others talking too.
(secretly...I think most people are terrified to "say" something in open chat for fear of sounding foolish...so do I...but sometimes, ya' just gotta say WTF and give it a shot)

That, and there's a squirrel that's taken up residence at the hangout, and I've yet to hunt it down and kill it...and it's beaned me TWICE with acorns now!! (when your MystiTool reports "collision with acorn" you know it's going to be a long night)...perhaps you'd have better luck?

I put the funk in disfunktional.

I didn't reject Ann. I failed to respond to her partnership proposal in a timely manner and LL rejected her. Why do I get the funny feeling in the pit of my stomach that somewhere a lynch mob is being organized...again?

Besides, I haven't even kissed her! How could I marry her? Heck, I haven't even danced with her! I'd like to (what am I, crazy!? What guy wouldn't?).

Wait - if we break up, do I get half her stuff? If I snuff her out, do I get all her stuff? I don't have anything cool except the biplane and my hair. She's got good stuff! This could be my new get-rich-quick scheme. Marry women with good stuff then off them for the inheritance. I could be a black widower. I think Grendel's Children even has that avatar!
I KNEW IT! Trout, what did I tell ya? she loves you, ya big dope! I could see it a mile away! (Cupid ALWAYS KNOWS!) As for you Ann, don't give up on him, he will come around eventually... we can only hope.
Heh! we could have one of those good ole fashioned SHOTGUN weddings! Just come as your alt to the wedding!

Okay, even though it says so in the opening post of this thread, I missed it, and I did not realize until I read Nika's comments above that this party was not going to be held somewhere other than the Forum Hangout.

As someone who earlier on this thread defended the special treatment given to the Forum Hangout on these forums, I now feel a little uncomfortable. :/ I didn't realize what I was defending, and if I had, I don't think I would have defended it. It blurs the line a little to promote an event at a non-forum property this way, even if it is a forum event. So please consider my previous arguments to apply only to forum events held at the Forum Hangout.

Due to my desire not to have one lovely woman annoyed at me, I refrained from eating the squirrel. So I stretched out on the ground near the squirrel and glared at it. It then ran down my throat and into my stomach. Stupid squirrel. I was too shocked to actually eat the squirrel, and it survived its trip.

We need to jump her in before she gets the certificate. I think drowning kittens is part of the ritual scaring process.

Madhu I agree with you, we are blurring the lines, but at least we can blur the lines with style!
Yeah, and I think it is a little too early to panic, there is still time and the organization is still underway. I may just volunteer to make that requested sign, as well as advocate announcing this alt party (once all details are hammered out) gets into the announcement section as well as here. Cover all your bases and this will be a success, no matter how many ‘non-well-wishers’ there are complaining and nit-picking... Remember EVERYONE is invited!!!

Even if I don’t win the contest, it will be a riotous blast to be a part of!
Last night I showed up at the hangout as one of my other alts, Desri Dreamscape, (as a dry run test) and it took a while, but Soji figured out who I was...Good deducting Soji! By the way, I did NOT dance with Soji again as Desri!
Desri may be naughty, but she is not that naughty!

That's a good idea about the landmark giver. The problem with the hangout is the lag is UNREAL if too many people are there.(Sometimes even when just a few are there) So Claire wanted to find a less lag option.

I thought it was more ignore the trolls, but then I may be mistaken.

Once again, learn the terminology you intend to use. Someone who does not share your opinion <> Troll. I am not trying to start a flame war, I am however sure of my convictions. Big difference and one I suggest you learn if you want to use the internet. As tossing unfounded labels on people can cause one a lot of grief I have seen in the past.

That side note aside, I do not expect much more of you. As it is obvious what camp you are in and biased in the regard. *shrugs* Certainly your choice however don't toss unfounded labels because you have no other defense.

On a side note Alica this certainly refreshing and comforting I am not the only person who sees whats clearly going on here. The SOP defense seems to be 'this is a forum resource so the forums rules don't apply to us'

ermmm No. Sorry. Until the posted forum policies/rules state such then thats just some made-up 'rule' a small group of people decided to imagine into existence because it benefits them/their place.

Well I think I'll get a few people from my club in this forum, make up a rule that benefits my club and thus rationalize to allow me to posts adverts here as well. Since my club is no different in essence then the hangout. Its a 'community resource' as well by their own definition (as would be the majority of non-profit clubs in SL).

Unless everyone who responded is on your ignore list, I'm not sure how you missed it.

Should the topic have changed mid-thread from Alt Party (which usually means pointless banter included) to the debate of what should or should not be posted in RA? You write, "...their lack of any real defense on their part." Is this what all this is about? Offence and Defence? Not everyone comes here to argue...

You certainly have a right to open up a new thread on the subject of your choice, especially if you think it to be a 'serious topic'. Could be interesting. :)

That's MY 2 cents.

My few times at the hangout were not that bad, I did have a manager tell me to 'shut the f*ck up' as she blew a joke I said way out of proportion. But thats not here nor that at this point. As a whole the arse clown manager aside my experience with the hangout has been decent to be fair to them. A few people who post here/hang out there I chatted with and they seem like good peeps such as GG.

In fairness to them all clubs do have 'off days'.

That aside, Sorry to hear that your interaction there was so poor. If you are into live goth, industrial, techno/dance music IM me in-world (or do a places search of 'nighthallows') I'll TP you to my place. I try to foster a warm, friendly environment. :)

even further like the new thread just started, advertising for some one else with a lame so called "RA posting excuse" so people can dump some ads in it

also the place gets filled with "Products Wanted" forum post for every one to dump a list in instead shuving it to where it belongs

i`ve reported a couple dozen threads allready, going back 20 pages just for fun, if they aren`t going to mod this place, they`ll get spammed with post reports like they have never been yet...

also there are more people in "our camp", but they`re afraid to get flamed to heaven and back

double standards...

Since my club is no different in essence then the hangout. Its a 'community resource' as well by their own definition (as would be the majority of non-profit clubs in SL).
Ways in which the Hangout differs from your club:

1. If you leave SL, your club folds. The forum hangout is owned by the Forum Cartel, now quite a large group. It is intended to be a permanent resource. It was built and is maintened with contributions of tier, cash and time from a diverse group of forumites.

2. The Hangout is not mentioned in any venue other than the Forums and the Forum Cartel group. While any avatar is welcome to drop in, it is intended to be a place where primarily you meet other forumites.

3. There will never be an event at the Hangout which is not sponsored by the forums.

4. Forum resources, such as the forum reader HUD and the forum business list, are available there.

5. Hopefully soon there will be forum-sponsored vendors for new creators there (yes, I have not forgotten about this project).

6. The "Resident Answers" orientation of the forums persists at the Hangout. Thus, new residents are particularly welcome, and are encouraged to ask questions and participate in SL expeditions such as shopping trips originating from there. A private sky dressing room is provided as well, which is of particular use to newer folks without land.

don`t bother strauss, they`re set to find what ever excuse they can find to justify advertising in RA then use the apropiate Events forums...
