You're right Nika. This decision doesn't signal any changes other than Philip's choice to focus on strategy and product while someone he chooses as his partner manages the operations and organizational growth. No falling sky, just the natural course of growth. Martha Lane Fox of (previously) Lastminute.com would be a good choice for CEO. Just a personal view |

How about Eliot Spitzer heard he needs a job. He certainly is experienced in cleaning up the Escort Services. |

No one has mentioned Hillary or Obahma. It is certain one of them may need a job somewhere down the road. Ohhh maybe they could just co-chair, cant you see see them arguing over who gets to wear that sparkling cod-piece.

Just imagine if I did have it how would it be. I'd do away with all the goody-goodies in here. This promise is enough to get my vote. _____________________

Wow,is this good or bad? We will know 6 months to a year from now. It's much to early to say, until the new CEO is named, and both his past track record, and what he does with Linden Lab can be examined. I hope Phillip makes a good choice. ![]() _____________________

I'd like to nominate Jumpman for the position. Then I'd have a reason to never login again...

Now, granted, I'm not an expert in big business, but I can't see this as anything but a positive thing....as long as they're careful in who they select. I think it's great that Philip will stay involved in a big way, rather than just walking away from it. After all, it was His World in his mind long before it was our's. I think his ideas are brilliant, but they do need someone who is more of a micro manager, all companies do. I just have never pictured Philip as a micro manager.
LL needs to be at the top of their game in the near future, because competition is coming, if not already here, and I would think they want to hold the niche they've dug for themselves in the business of virtual worlds. Congratulations, Philip! _____________________

For all the reasons explained well by others, bringing in a professional to be CEO is a necessary thing. Let's hope it turns out to be a good thing.

This is standard practice for venture-backed startups, it is always done. CEOs stepping aside become Chairman of the Board. Philip, like most visionaries who have to eventually step aside, has not screwed up. He has simply reached the limit of where his skills as leader of a technology company, can take LL. He needs to be kept actively involved because he is still the keeper of the company's vision. They just need someone who can execute it more effectively. It is VERY common for this to happen at exactly this size ... 250-300 employees. It is a major inflection point for startups. . QFT Philip has proven time and time again that he cannot run a business. Now he can continue being a visionary but with someone at the helm who actually knows how to operate a company (we hope). This could go either way, but I think it's a very positive move. _____________________
