I was kidding when I wrote that in response to Hate...but I do think some people (not just the ladies) do project a "keep off" vibe. It's not just clothes...I've seen it in characters in several styles of dress. It's not gender...I've seen it in men and women. One poster in this thread noted that he seems to give off a "gay vibe" and gets hit on a lot by other guys.

Some of the ladies have this, this...electronic perfume or something...a lot of top escorts have a definite "you want me, dontcha?" air about them.

Now, all this sort of thing happens all the time in RL. What puzzles me is, how on earth do we manage to project these sorts of attitudes through our screens and keyboards and pixelated avatars? It can't possibly be pheromones.

If I knew the answer to this, I'd've won that contest and be $L250 richer tonight.

I'm usually able to convey genuine disinterest without going after either the guy's balls or ego. Really, I think sometimes we overreact

And sometimes, if I manage to turn them away with humor, it turns out they have humor too and the whole thing becomes fun.

Gosh , tell me where please. Up until recently I was partnered and ended up ending it because I couldnt cope with all the attention I was getting from male avies who see partnered people as a challenge and him not being on very often. I then had a period of touch me and you're dead.

Now I am free and ready to ride the sl intimacy roller coaster and not getting any interesting bites. Perhaps I am too damn fussy.

This is so true and very different in parts of the world.. I was living in Asia one time and two beautiful Spanish women were talking to each other very openly (assuming no one spoke the language I guess...) - Their topic and main complaint was how men in that country did not show any appreciation for their beauty.. one them said "They don't even turn to look!"

Well I'm really back now, after a mega-flight from Hell. Remind me never to step foot in an airport ever again.

Men aren't cads. They're very nice people for the most part. Especially when they buy me drinks in seedy airport bars since everyone's flight has been delayed for 2 hours.

Guess again, it's a two way street in sl.

I have a male alt which I use to test animations - the ladies have never gone for him :-/ He gets griefed, caged, orbited etc by the other guys though. I think being a guy in SL is really tough.

It never bothered me. Depending on how clever and intelligent the approach is, I either respond nicely (but decline unless I'm, for some reason, actually interested) or, in true Gemini fashion, talk a little circle around the poor, slow guy to amuse myself at his expense, but I don't feel the need to just bluntly, verbally pummel anyone into the (virtual) pavement.

I think I've mentioned it before, but the nicest 'approach' happened when I was sitting on a bench at Apollo and briefly AFK. When I returned I had an IM: <Name> softly kisses your cheek while you are sleeping." He ws nowhere around so I IM'd him back and he was so sweet about not wanting to disturb me or appear pushy. He just wanted to tell me how nice he thought I looked.

Gorgeous. I didn't follow it up as I was with someone at the time. But I often wonder where he is now, the lovely man.

That might be a way to deal with those guys that like to get really close to you. Its pretty funny. I think it is made by Lost Dog Arch, I can't find "Lost Dog" on the Map, or in Search, or on SL Exchange.
