From: Milla Janick There are a variety of height detectors to help you. From: someone
While these do help, it would be much easier to edit an avatar if you could use real measurements in the edit appearance window, instead of using a separate script.
[sarcasm]And as long as the Lindens are requiring us to tell them everything anyway, I think they should enforce the height rule from the Snowcrash grid: in public places, your avatar must be your exact RL height.[/sarcasm]

I have a freebie height hud that uses PRIM height and am placing it in the Avatar Proportion Kit. With it, you know your height and those people around you.

From: Smith Peel I can't imagine mistaking someone who's 5'6" for a child. And the piercings and tats should be a good clue; in most places you gotta be 18+ to get those, yeah? I'm 5'6", and I always got carded at 18 - back when the drinking age was 18 and the enforcement not as strict - so yes, it's possible. I don't know about tattoos, but I frequently see toddlers with earrings, so I think parental permission is all that's needed. And I think it's likely that some of the youngsters I see with facial piercings these days are under 18.

You are one of those Lord of the Rings tall elves. I see your height is 2.17m. I am like a Forgotten Realms Wild Elf size of 1.69m according to the Henri Beauchamp ruler. Which is wrong . Henri's ruler makes the same error that Green Life does it seems. [6:58] True Height Detector & Comparator v1.12: Briana Dawson is 1.69m tall (5'7" , counting their shoes. And that is wrong. Bri does not look anything like any child I have ever seen EDIT: And I'm pretty sure the Child Protection Agency would be called if I ever did see such a child!

It's funny to me, that in a world where we can be dragons, tinies, animals, or whatever we want, that we are so hung up on proportions. That's really a side point though, what I find most interesting is this persecution complex amongst "shorter" avies. The commonly held belief is that they are horrendously discriminated against by ignorant giants. People talk about being more polite, while the same people they're defending write posts littering their speech with catch phrases like "frankenbarbie", "giraffe w/ clown boobs", "crazy tall" and going on fevered rants about how stupid, uneducated, ignorant, discriminatory, and crass these individuals are.
Fwiw, I'm 6'5" in RL so I don't think my SL height is that odd.

Walk around SL getting AUTO-kicked from places and then told by someone who is 8'0" that you are too short and a child, and eventually you may have the same attitude. There is no "persecution complex" and to say so is pure ignorance. EVERY DAY that i hang out with people who have not met me before (primarily males) they eventually tell me i am too short. Or if they have romantic ideas tell me i should increase my height. Well f#ck those unoriginal clones. Don't tell me *i* am too short. Don't tell me to increase my height. I NEVER tell people in SL what their height is or tell them they are TOO TALL - unless they start off with "Wow briana you are so short/too short". And yea, when you are telling someone they are TOO SHORT - you are an IGNORANT GIANT for not thinking and checking heights before you opened your mouth and inserted a shoe store.

No offense to you tall peeps meant. And I do get He-Man shapes dropped on me all the time which is rather annoying

For the record. I generally tell guys who want to know - to make their height around 7-7'3", since #1, they won't be tiny compared to the rest of the men around them and feel inadequate, and #2 - It still looks relatively "ok" at that height as long as the rest of the proportions are not totally out of whack: Like huge arms, tiny waist, tiny head, t-rex length arms.
I do love it when a guy has real life height next to me. It looks natural and attractive. But in RL i prefer my men tall, 6'2" being minimum, 6'5" generally being the max.

So SL is sizest.. tell me something I don't know!
The number of times I've been laughed out of a woman's bed.. well yes mostly for gross incompetence .. but also because my virtual manhood only measures a paltry 18 inches.
How was I to know that the average in SL was 3 feet?

I'm reminded of a vendor for prim parts that listed the largest size as "The Compensator".

I am glad you do not. A few men who i have helped have preferred to be a RL size or at least their RL height. But the majority say immediately "everyone else is taller than me and i feel small". I guess if you are clubbing and doing all that as a date scene then it kinda makes you less attractive as a male if the women are all 1 foot taller or more. I am about 5'11" in SL, I think, which is pretty close to my RL height. And I won't hesitate to tell a man I am dancing with to adjust his height downwards if I find myself being twirled around, a half metre above the dance floor, by a behemoth.

I just won't use couple dance balls with anyone not relative to my size because of the whole "dancing on air" thing when i dance with taller people. From: Scylla Rhiadra Depends on the woman. Wow, thanks for the responses everyone. Nice to know that I'm not the only person who things 5'9" is appropriate. For Cindy and those who wanted to turn this into a personality debate. Sorry, but yes I am bitchy, I can be that in SL. Someone accuses me of being a child avatar without any justification, or even asking my age before hand, yep I gonna enjoy bitching about it, sorry if it offends you. Maybe I hit close to home with my profile and you feel the need to project your insecurities onto someone ... just maybe a little? And yes my profile is snidely written, as you could probably tell I'm a smartass, because I can be. I don't have to be polite and professional with my SL. I can let off steam. And I let off steam by pointing out things that annoy me in SL, without have to submit a memo through the proper departments. The original post was about someone making an accusation based soley on my height, not my overall appearance or how I was behaving in a sim, just on height. Now maybe the clownboobie dude-girl looked at my profile and decided I was a bitch who didn't belong in a sim full of guys pretending to be girls, but that's not what she said, she made no reference to me being a mean old nasty hag who would spoil their masturbation session. Thanks for all the input.. next time I log in I will put my age in the profile, that was actually a good suggestion, I never thought it was needed since I thought I was normal height, but you live, you learn.

From: Jehanne Talaj For almost 3 years now I've just been lurking around. Looking at the forums maybe once a month. Well today someone finally irked me off enough in world that I need to vent.
I have had the excact same avatar ever since about my second month in SL. Same shape, same skin, only the hair and clothes change. For over two years now, I've gone anywhere I wanted to, clubs, stores, gor sims, info hubs, pretty much everywhere in SL. Never once have I had an issue because of my appearance. My avatar is 5 ft 9 inches tall. I dress like an adult, I behave like and adult.
Well today I'm hanging out in one of the 'most popular' clubs. Just standing there trying to figure out what all the icons in Emerald's "Avatar List" mean.. not chatting not interacting at all just playing with my viewer. After about 5 minutes this giraffe with clown boobs in a dress comes over to me and says "You can't be in here with a child avatar." WTF!?!? I didn't go off on her(?) as much as I would have liked to, I simply said. I'm 5'6" (giving some error room for my height). She responded with, "well then you need to be that height in here."... at that point I almost spit out my drink. I told her, "That's my SL height. You are over 7 feet tall. If you want I'll give you a copy of starscape judge and you can measure yourself". Her response was "I don't play those games". At this point a tp'd out.
What a frigging moron. Definately the last time I go to a 'women' only club that has voice disabled. Let all the guys live out their fantasies with eachother. I'm going back to IOL where at least you can tell who the women are. And yes, after I left I pulled out SSJ and checked my height.. same as always, 5'9".
I think I will buy some land and auto-eject/ban everyone over 6'2".
Jehanne I have noticed lately women are starting to go shorter and the very tall are few and far between. I even shortened my avatar myself, but if I wish to use a pose ball I must tall er up again.... But, hugs to you. Sometimes people on here just want to make everyone feel stupid. It takes the focus off themselves.
