I'll agree with Darien in that whatever height you see *most* people at, whatever the *average* AV height is, DOES become the norm. It's the same way with other AV features also.. victims of current trends. That doesn't justify discrimination if one's outside that norm, no way.. but it does still mean that someone outside that norm IS STILL outside that norm, whatever it is.
I also agree with Sindy in that I would certainly throw out short people who toe the line if I had such an adult place... and by "toe the line" I mean those who obviously try to look as cutesy or childlike as possible yet get accepted as adult when they want to be. Many don't even realize how they really look because they don't add up *all* the pieces of what they present, only focusing on the individual parts. On their own, the hair, freckles, height, shape, clothing, etc.. may not be childlike, merely "cute", and that's what they see... but throw it all together and you are a kid plain and simple. Doesn't matter if you talk like a sailor and put a hundred disclaimers in your profile.. in an adult sexual environs you should not be. _____________________

I'm sorry that happened to you. No matter what height, people should be more polite. ...this giraffe with clown boobs in a dress comes over to me.... What a frigging moron.....I think I will buy some land and auto-eject/ban everyone over 6'2". Male avatars SL gross me out. This includes you. No your oversided muscles are not the most magical thing on the planet. They are a poorly rendered oversized compensatory tool for your low self esteem. If I was an exciting person I wouldn't be spending my days in here. Same for you. ![]() |

I've never been discriminated against for my height............I mean never. I've had an account in SL since October, 2005..........had this shape since about February, 2006. I've been to more than just a few clubs in SL. I danced in a few clubs for two years. I've only recieved a handful of comments at all about my height...............things like "you're short" or "hi, Shorty". And all in good humor
Measued against a rezzed cube I'm just over 64" (actually 64.2" . That's roughly 1 foot shorter than that 6' 4" everyone tosses out. I think someone wears their tender feelings a little low on their shoulders. Get over it............take your hurt feelings and move on. This is so petty. Learn to laugh and have a good time....if the place you are at does not make you happy, then leave. /me sulks away crying "someone hurt my feelings.......boo wooo". |

Everything I do is well thought out Nice to know you were engaging in a "well though out" practice when you informed me that I was a cretin for daring to expect that your supposedly Restrained Life compatible products actually were. Yeah, right, they were "compatible with everything they should be." As long as they don't support real Restrained Life commands, they are not compatible. Nor is it your place, well though out or not, to condemn your customers for wishing to make use of your products in a manner consistent with your own advertising. It's a good thing you're out of business in SL because a business owner with your attitude who thinks it's OK to condemn your own customers at the drop of a hat doesn't deserve to have any customers. And this is far better though out than your reaction to my complaint about the problem I was having with your collars too. |

After about 5 minutes this giraffe with clown boobs in a dress comes over to me and says "You can't be in here with a child avatar." WTF!?!? I didn't go off on her(?) as much as I would have liked to, I simply said. I'm 5'6" (giving some error room for my height). She responded with, "well then you need to be that height in here."... this makes me wonder if she was seeing you very very short... It has happened to me, not people seeing me very very short (since I am usually at the 5'2" height anyway heh) but me seeing others extremely short, childlike short... and it was people I knew, so I asked they were playing a child avatar, as it was unusual for them to be so short, they said no, they had their normal avatar on, so I sent them a snapshot and they sent me on, and lo and behold, they were normal to them, short to me (and a few others standing around, but not everyone saw them short) so they relogged, and came back looking the way they usually did could this have been the case here? and when she said she doesn't play those games, maybe she meant... I see you short, you say you are not, so what game are you playing? just a guess _____________________

I would have told the giraffe to meditate a bit over the height-slider in the edit appearance window. Not giraffe. The correct term is "frankenbarbie". _____________________

What Sindy said was: I throw short people who refuse to put in their profile "18+ in RL/SL" or "short but adult", or some indication that they're not a kid even though they're a foot shorter than everybody else, out of my place on a pretty regular basis. No mention of "adding up all the pieces of what they represent". Overall what i see in this thread is a lot of ignorance, and laziness. _____________________

It also reminded me of a pic I took, two people were dancing and someone saw the guy being very short and snapped a pic. They put it on a prim for the lulz... and at that point I realized that what *I* was seeing was not exactly accurate either.... ![]() ![]() |

The fact of the matter is that us NORMAL sized people really do have the last laugh.
When i see most 7'0+ tall avatars, at a single glance i know they are out of proportion and look freaky as hell. Tiny head, long waist, legs twice the length of the torso, the arm wingspan of a pterodactyl, etc..etc.. And more and more people in SL are recognizing that there are some size issues. And more often than not, when someone encounters me and says something about my height and I say "but you are 8'0", they reply "OH SHIT" and usually proceed to go directly into appearance mode to reduce themselves. This is what i liike: [2009/09/07 18:32] JD: hey brianna [2009/09/07 18:32] JD: love your AV [2009/09/07 18:32] Briana Dawson: hi Jay [2009/09/07 18:32] JD: looks so natural [2009/09/07 18:32] JD: you look amazing really [2009/09/07 18:33] Briana Dawson: thanks ![]() [2009/09/07 18:33] JD: just love what you've done with it [2009/09/07 18:33] JD: the proportions are fantastic [2009/09/07 18:34] JD: most girls here have huge boobs [2009/09/07 18:34] JD: but yours are perfect [2009/09/07 18:35] Briana Dawson: hahah thank you ![]() [2009/09/07 18:35] Briana Dawson: i prefer realism as opposed to Frankenbarbie'ism I'll take a dozen kick and bans for just 1 of these compliments per day - because i know that when someone says "the proportions are fantastic" that they mean it. And if someone made the same remark to an 8'0" giant that they would be speaking from ignorance - unless of course you are one of those rare 8'0 people who are in proportion. And when those 8'0 people ARE in proportion they look like Hill Giants. Go figure... I may get kicked from some place for pure ignorance of measurements - that is fine, i always get back in once i educate them on the different ways of measuring height in SL - which is the purpose of the Freebie Height Hud that i had made. I have already distributed it to several places that had idiotic auto-kicking based on AGENT HEIGHT. Once they knew the difference, they adjusted. People are giant primarily out of ignorance or peer pressure. Neither are good reasons, but at least the former is more acceptable than the latter. _____________________

I do want to comment on the whole height issue though. In SL you aren't 5'9" and she wasn't 7'. If everyone in a club is a giant, then that doesn't mean the giants are normal sized, it means it's a club for giants. _____________________

Whatever happened to: If it looks like a kid, acts like a kid and calls everyone "Mommy" and "Daddy" as a rule of judgment for adult places?
Hmm.. second thought, using the "acts like a kid," probably doesn't explain much does it? I've seen less mature "normal" avatars... Well, guess I should consider myself lucky that I don't visit adult clubs. I'm not sure where I fall on height and honestly, don't care. _____________________

Obviously the supporter of the "when 1000 frankenbarbies run around they define the norm" point never had a look at the default avatars delivered by LL. They are all in reasonable range regarding size and should be taken as reference - and not what some people choose as slider settings in the appearance. Evenmore, using plain simple logic, you can think of yourself that it's a good idea that a slider setting of 50 for height is mapped to the about average size of people: somewhat around 5'9". Pretty obvious that the default avatars have their height sliders set somewhat around this value.
Setting the height to 80+ only shows a lack of logical thinking! Or will those pumped male shapes with body muscles set close to 100 now be defined as norm for the common shape, too, because a significant amount of guys run around with it? /me herself is "only" 5'6" with height slider set to a bit more than 50... |

To the subject at hand, unfortunate, and if that person was an employee, they certainly could have been more tactful. But as a former adult Business owner, I know that one has to be careful about appearances, especially when sexual content is involved. I don't know if the club had any, but I suspect it may have. |

What i do not get is how people who BUY their shape (which a majority of SLers do now-a-days *boggle*) turn around and then say 8'0" is norm.
Anything can be considered "norm" if you get enough people doing it, and that does not make it right. "The Norm" can just as well be "The Wrong". Most people are buying shapes already set at max slider for male and/or female. That alone to me speaks volumes. Don't just take a shape set at a size and call that norm. I call it: A bunch of clueless shape makers without any idea of human proportions F'ing up the grid with a proud smile of their "awesome work". ![]() _____________________

The average human height in SL is most likely the height of the default avatars
If you are smaller than that you MAY look like a kid when standing next to a default avatar or an average SL avatar. All the logic about meter scales of objects is irrelevent until you make them set the default avatars to obey the meter scale. PS - I think short women are more attractive than tall women |

Setting the height to 80+ only shows a lack of logical thinking! It is not illogical since they could have a plethora of logical reasons for making themselves 8'0". There is plenty of flawed logic out in the world. With that said, it is however, not rational. _____________________

Also.
I am pretty sure the default avatar size by LL is 6'10". I am not sure however. But i do know when i teleport - before i fully rez, my AvRuler HUD says I am 6'10" before changing to show my height of 5'6". Anyone else know for sure? _____________________
