I made a facelight for a friend because the light-up-the-room thing is so annoying. It has one source for the face and one for the upper chest, with a mild intensity but a very low radius - just enough for the ava wearing it, no more. Ive had a couple of people tell me they like it better, so I'll keep tweaking it.
If I can get five or six friends to say they like it better than what they have, I'll give it away for free. ![]() _____________________

I don't think Brenda's had her full intake of morning coffee yet. Well, it was a remarkably adorable Immy pic. Totally out of character. ![]() _____________________

Tesla's has a really nice soft facelight, freebie, as far as i know, that i use. it flatters w/o washing out you or the surrounding area and other avas.

But the third job, some call it, uh, "the show" or "the big dance," it's the profession that every linden aspires to.

It can be a little annoying if you are around someone with a really bright facelight but I really don't feel like I'm being incosiderate and hurting anyone's experience by using one, its not a biggy to me. Facelights really do make for a smoother look in most lighting situations. Regarding the resources that they use, I have a feeling many of the people who cast this stone are the ones with cladding and scripts of every kind themselves, which are ok as long as they are the ones that they like to use. Usually my avatar is very simple, clothes, hair, ao, and thats about it.
Thanks for all the leads |

No, just using one isn't a big deal. Using one with a 10m radius and the intensity of nuclear weaponry is about as awe inspiring as text spam to me. _____________________

I would just change my settings but my main reason for the face light or any other cosmetic thing I do is primarily for how I look to everybody else, and I was under the impression that the viewer settings have no impact on what everyone else sees. the thing is, with a facelight, or any settings for that matter, not everyone will see you the way you see you... nothing will guarantee you will be seen the same way you see yourself... _____________________

I realize this but at least a good number of other people will be seeing it the way that I intended, my understanding was that the viewer settings only effect the way I see it on my own computer. I appreciate the help though, I don't want to seem ungrateful for the advice. |

I tend to see both sides of this issue.. I do use a facelight sometimes, but it is one I made myself, single prim, soft slightly pink light, 2m radius, heavy fall off. Most times I do not use it, but at Noon, or midnight, sometimes the shadows just look hidious and I have to do something.
But I really do hate the Facelight 3000 look. Walking spotlights that light up the room.. But in their defense.. I have a number of hair styles that came with 4 facelights built in, all high intensity, bright white, with a 6m radius.. And the other day I bought a very beautiful, very expensive gown. It had over 20 light sources in it!!! I was lit up like a christmas tree! It seems the creator used a gem that had light turned on.. And then copied this gem all over the gown! I have a little script I wrote that is called "Light Killer". You drop it in the root prim of an object and it will turn off the light feature of every prim in the link set, then delete itself (the script that is). I tend to use this on everything I get that has built in lighting. I even found I had some shoes last night that had 6 lights per shoe! Again a copied gem. Sheesh.. Anyway.. Like a lot of things in life or salt in soup.. A little bit is great, but a lot is a disaster. (well maybe I will exclude love, you can never have too much love) |

Wow, that's very Zen. Sorta. heh never thought of it that way...but I guess it is sort Zen like much like in RL, people always see us differently than we see ourselves ![]() and as for the viewer settings, each person's own viewer settings affect how they see things, including avatars with or without facelights which is why I tend to override the lighting, and see everyone in a flattering light ![]() that way I am not affecting how anyone else sees SL and I am seeing it in the best light possible for me ![]() _____________________
