From: Wildefire Walcott Inferior to the experience at this forum?
Why do you say it's not work-safe though? The language can be harder than it is here, but offensive and pornographic content are forbidden there. (Seriously.) I meant that I turned off images here in this forum, and it was not a very good experience compared to using this forum with images on. Although I forgot that I did try images off at SLU, but the advertisements still come up. Maybe "work safe" is too strong a word. What I really mean is that the kind of pictures that come up are too obviously non-work-related. I can pretty much get away with looking at SL Forums at my desk. That's all I mean. I'll quit saying "not work safe". In the end though, I just get the feeling I don't belong there. I have friends who are over there, including my best and oldest SL friend, and believe me, I am not shy and don't have a weak personality. I don't know why I don't feel comfortable there, but I don't. .

They meet my needs, but I can understand why they don't click with everyone.

I've been at SLU for a couple of years now, and fortunately my post count there is not as horrifying as here. I'll be posting there, but I won't be going to any other forum. I have my blog and now the store to work on, so it will be a good time for me to de forum for a awhile. I will not be going near the LL site unless it is absolutely necessary.

From: Treasure Ballinger So a Buddy List provides what benefit, exactly? You can see when they are online for one thing. Besides the bottom big list, there is a side bar that will show your buddies logged on at that time. There is even a link next to their name so you can IM them right there.

These Linden forums here are great. Thank you. Hope you can make em better, like easier to navigate? I do not know about "bad" moderation, I read opinions from both sides. Bad moderation sucks in any forum.
SL Universe has been around a while and has lots of posts. It has some highly opinionated posters that make me laugh. But free-wheeling discussion is not permitted on certain subjects. That does not really take away from the forum if you go there only for tech and support info. Some people have money invested in it one way of another so, in fairness, I have to say that I understand the fear they have of discussing certain stuff. Whether it is right or wrong is gonna be up to individual readers, tho.
Second Citizen is the best of both world for me. It has every kinda discussion, tech stuff, whatever. And, you can add whatever might be missing, if anything is, just by posting. The only moderation policy Second Citizen has is: do not do illegal stuff. I support that. Otherwise, it is open to any subject for discussion. Freedom of speech is the best forum feature I ever used. lol.

As I said in the "last post" thread, they will have to pry this forum from my cold, dead fingers ... which of course is trivially easy for them to do!
But I hope a lot of you stick it out here with me, because while LL surely intends to move this forum over, the XStreet move has, very visibly, not gone smoothly. Prolly the less smoothly that goes, the deader and more bitchy it is there, the more reluctant they will be to do it again. LL doesn't like negativity and sadness. So ... moving these forums over may be a while.
When they do shut these down, I will probably take it as an opportunity to take a break from forums in general. I've taken breaks before, no biggie. SLU and SCmkII both have their plusses (and minuses); but what I'll miss from here is the community, and they each have very different cultures than this one. .

From: Nika Talaj But I hope a lot of you stick it out here with me... Hey, I will be here until they drop the bomb on these forums. I aim to be the last poster in the undying thread. MUAHAHA! By the way, I admire what you did in your post over at the blogums or whatever they are. You put it well, you really said what needed to be said. I think we all should stay here as long as we possibly can, and make the most of it. There are still plenty of things left to say, newbies to help, questions to answer, connections to be made, friendships to form. At the same time, I think it would be prudent for all of us to stick a toe in the alternatives while we still have this home to come back to. It's good to have some idea of where we might like to end up. We can give each of the alternative forums a fair shot and compare notes. I gave the new blogorums a couple fair shots, and it's a big no-go. But yeah. I'm here for the duration. .

You can try, Missy, but we all know who will really be the last poster to the undead thread. Maureen lol And on a plus side, the flogs seem to be loading much faster today. Could be because the Xstreet migration is a couple of days gone and not as many people are hitting it like they were before. I am very, VERY tempted to start a thread under SLAnswers/General called "Just ignore and let this one die," but I really think that should be Rha's place to start it.

From: Scylla Rhiadra I am afraid that I DO find it a bit more cliquey than here (although we certainly have our cliques here too). I find that it too quickly gets political (RL) in the SLU forums and if you have a viewpoint that doesn't match the prevailing mood of the core clique, a few of the annointed will jump all over you. It seems to go into ad hom pretty quickly. Maybe that's changed but it hadn't as of 4 months ago. I love the Snapzilla feature though.

If you venture into the Politics Subforum, which I don't, it does help if you lean to the left and have a thick skin.

From: Wildefire Walcott Once this place goes away, I reckon many of the helpful folks will migrate over to SLU. I hope they do, anyway. I hope it goes back to being the helpful forum I signed up for in 2007. Picking on people that do not have English as their first language does not sit well with me - all of the off-topic jpegs and the demands to stop posting on subjects the regulars do not want to see (instead of just muting the thread) are thing that may go away after more 'outsiders' come into the forum. I like all of the Social Network features (giving gifts, friends, groups blogging). The Moderator has been trying harder to be fair and even-handed. He may need assistance in refereeing the old SL Forum wars that will migrate over there without a ToS to make them stay civil.

SLU's moderation is not to my liking. At all. This. Also, less rampant nastiness and sniper wars there. If you're curious, http://www.secondcitizen.net/Forum/index.php

Are these forums going to disappear?
I just went to that new XStreet service place, or whatever the heck it is, which as far as I can tell was the replacement for the old Xstreet service place. And I couldn't make heads nor tails out of it.
I suppose that was the idea.
But are these forums here going to disappear?

/me doesn't really exist outside of secondlife.com. I'm sure most of these forums are run be really cool people who are totally on the up-and-up but I very, very rarely cross the RL/SL line. From: Cocoanut Koala But are these forums here going to disappear? They will become read-only. We're supposed to go to the same place that the slex forums went to.

They will become read-only. We're supposed to go to the same place that the slex forums went to. Lord have mercy. WHAT place? All I found was something with about five categories, and impossible to find anything in them! Finally I found someone in the content creation section saying, what is this? And I don't know either. Plus, I take it there will be no section like Classifieds here where we can post about our new products? I'm serious. I went to that other place and it was NOTHING. Are they planning to take these forums and redo them there? Or will it be as lousy as the so-called XStreet forums that are supposedly there now, which is where I went to? I mean, it was nothing, and even then, you couldn't figure it out. Also, when is this going to happen? coco

From: Raymond Figtree The most populated is SLuniverse. Great moderator, every thread you would ever need, good folks, good info and answers, good place to promote your businesses, good drama, good arguments. MUCH better functionality. There is an "ispy" page where you can see new posts as they are added. It even has streaming chat for those who has problems keeping their thoughts and comments to a minimum. And if you agreed or disagreed or wanted to thank me for this post, there's feedback buttons where you could do all of that and more. There is a great, welcoming subforum for newcomers: http://www.sluniverse.com/php/vb/new-users/. Cristiano even has a subforum to discuss LL's recent decisions to mess with everything: http://www.sluniverse.com/php/vb/xstreetsl-discussion/There are several good little ones, but SLU is where you will find the bulk of the SL community. And that's for a reason. To top it all off, Brenda posts there! What more do you need to know? Between this post and the new SL Commerce Forums, you motivated me enough to scroll to the bottom of the SLU, where I was relieved to find a skin change feature. Which saves me from having to choose between having my eyes nibbled away by the ducks of the commerce forum or blasted away by the scroots of the default SLU color scheme.

coco Hi, Coco! Yes, they will at some point lock these forums, but keep them accessible for reference. The new area will be similar to the Xstreet "Flog", though supposedly improved. Blue Linden spoke to that on this thread I started over there: https://blogs.secondlife.com/message/9979#9979However, he has declined to say anything about when the change-over will happen. If you want to post in that thread, it appears that he is responding to concrete suggestions, but not to simple criticism. .

Yeah the first thing I did was change the color skin to blue and white. Interesting all the comments about SLU. It does have a totally different feel to it than this forum, but I like it just fine. I like the resmod a lot. Always seems to do the fair and right thing. As long as you aren't a total jerk, you don't get treated like one there. Luckily, I'm only 73% jerk.
