Ooh! I just made a very cool bowl in SL!!
Amusing myself - and i made a cool fire ball this morning :D
SOMEONE should come save me from too much building...

Actually I am off to a script place in a bit- I am starting to think I may one day grasp some of the odder SL stuff...

Hope everyone is having a lovely Sunday.
Hello Damien my dear. Come play with me sometime :) ?
Have fun!

The not really was that you are not a JW? I think I got it but just wanted to be sure I understood - I can be a tad dense at times :)
Actually I'm not very good at jokes. Some people find me very funny sometimes but most people wonder what I'm trying to say. No I'm not a Witness. Several people who I like and admire are and they don't celebrate birthdays and holidays. It's an aspect of their faith that I sometimes find mildly horrifying but at other times kind of appealing.

i just attended a JW funeral last weekend. they really never mentioned the fellow who was being buried, and at the end of it i thought they were going to invite us down to be baptized... because all they did was preach and try to convert.

very odd. and uncomfortable.

Damien's Garden may turn into the Garden of Paradise ;) ... hmm.. me thinks Mother Eve might make a neat costume...

Re the JW- they are highly moral people over all- so much so it is cloying- I was thusly afflicted in my youth hence the issues and my absolute cure of religion, and some would say, of morals :).

JW = high morals or low morals (in comparison to whatever is 'the norm')?

Just depends on your definition of "moral". Morality to me is not beating your 4 children every single day even thou 3 were straight A students. This was done because the bible said not to spare the rod. Moral to me is the opposite of a child never learning any social skills because we were not really ever supposed to socialize with other children except to pass out Watchtower and Awakes. JW's are as close as you can get to being in a cult, without being in an actual cult. Our mother gave us a whole childhood of that JW crap and I have not spoken to her in 10 years. There will be no tears shed when she dies. It took me took me 20 years to exorcise the demons introduced by what some call a religion.

Sorry for the interruption, I now return you to my usual high levels of levity.

In RL, I don't swap the closet anymore - I keep a smaller wardrobe (of course, I do have a walking closet, so I did not have to limit it too much).

Well Jesse- u def had it worse than i then- I just didnt get the parties- no xmas no halloween etc. I did have to associate with other brain washed sorts thank fully they decided they no longer wanted me and i escaped. No- my parents were not abusive just shoved religion down my throat- so i rebelled and here u see the end result. Close to a cult? No they are a cult- there are many survivor support groups out there- I just never had it so bad - I am truly sorry for the pain that caused you.

Good Morning to Everyone,

I thought I would amalgamate my responses and thanks to you all in one go as the thread has moved on again (so fast last night) and I have no desire to gnaw this particular bone any longer.

From: Kaimi Kyomoon
Although I arrived too late to be useful here are my thoughts.
1. There are billions of people in the world and you can't get along well with all of them so it's only sensible to let go of some relationships. I recommend avoiding spending time with people you don't enjoy. Banning this person relieves you both of some anxiety about future unpleasantness.
2. Anger is usually a reaction to a threat. When someone attacks our personal version of what is right we feel threatened. Afterward we feel a frustrated need to justify ourselves which usually leads us to make our case to third parties and sometimes leads us to do vaguer things like go to places where our adversary hangs out. Or more specific things like plan revenge.
3. Personally I've found it works well for me not to ascribe more sinister motives to other people than I have to. A few people over the years who actually had malice towards me have softened because I was assuming they were nicer than that. But I keep my doors locked because why ask for trouble?
4. We love you Gabi - forget that jerk.
*hugs* Not too late at all as Brenda says further down, thank you very much for this.

Perhaps you are right and I have attributed more sinister motives than exist. I think it is because I tend to come up with scenarios to exaplin things like this and then discard the obviously improbable ones. What I am left with tends to get mentally assigned a probability and that kind of leads my thinking. It is entirely possible I have missed a likely scenario that would innocently explain it all.

This is why I came here for advice, I knew you and the others here would give me valuable points of view I was unable to appreciate before :)

From: Pserendipity Daniels
Why don't you just ask the person what he was doing there?

Pep (Sorry, I'm being male . . . )
No need to apologise for asking, my initial desire was to IM them and ask them "WTH They were doing at my place" but I realised that would not solve much and in the end I asked myself if I really wanted to deal with them again so soon and the answer I came up with was a resounding "No".

From: Kaimi Kyomoon
She probably wants to avoid going through any more angry disagreement. I'm with you that the direct approach is almost always easiest. The most direct thing in this case is probably to just forget about it and put the mystery of what this other person is up to on the huge pile of unanswered questions that most of have already collected. I think Gabriele is currently in the stage of calming down from the altercation and working through the process of getting over it.
Kaimi said it even better than I could, thanks again :)

From: 3Ring Binder
if you are truly done with them, the mute and ban is a good idea for a little while. contrary, if they have malice intended they can simply employ an alt so banning for 'protection' really has no value.

if it were me, i'd want to know when someone was on my land. in this case, unbanning and watching (tracking) would be a better option.

you can always simply mute them if you don't want to hear from them again.

*hugs* good luck.
Thanks 3Ring, I have decided not to mute them unless that channel becomes a problem with them but the ban will have to stay in place for the moment at least until I next get inworld. I'll see how I feel about it then, you raised a good point about alts that I had not considered.

Hey no problems! Actually I really did finally put it behind me.

I wasn't really sure I had put it behind me until I finally had my daughter. I put it off until the final ticks of my biological clock, fearing I would "pass it on". My daughter is now 12 years old, is wonderfully adjusted with many friends, is in the Advanced Math & Science program in school. All of this and she has never, ever had a hand laid on her. If something is wrong we simply talk.

It's often futile to try and ascribe motives that make sense to what people do. But you don't want to forget entirely that they really could be out to get you.

What is this about? FD and 3 are crystal clear - who is having problems understanding them? Maybe we need to get them a Threadtionary! If anyone can understand me tho.. please let me in on it :)
