Yeah the display is a little small. But it's also a laptop..with good graphics...and decent ram...for $650.

To get the display up to snuff too, you're looking at twice the cost.

This weekend I glanced at the Best Buy add in the Sunday paper.

For anyone thinking of upgrading a laptop (eep! sorry Lexxi..I know this is a little late for you... )

This is an excellent deal...

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9050242&type=product&id=1218012522418

Worse graphics card than mine. It is a 9300, mine is 8600 (remember, it is the second number that matters more with NVIDIA GeForce. heh, 14.1" screen? heh. plus 1280 x 800 vs. 1900x whatever mine will be if it ever arrives (plus with its 17" screen). Also has Vista, instead of XP (mine comes with XP and a Vista disk if I "am ready to upgrade";). Is a savings of $400 though. Granted I could have gotten this level at Dell for about that amount - Vista, tiny screen, etc.

From what I know, it's exactly the way it always was. I belong to a food board/blog and most everyone says it hasn't changed at all in years. I'm looking forward to that type of old fashioned place. I found one of those in town yesterday (I'm living in Rahway now, of all places); a small luncheonette/grill on East Cherry Street (Rahway Grill) that has been there for like 60 years. Kind of place where everyone that walks in the door knows each other and the owners are good friends to the whole neighborhood. Sadly, they said they are about to retire so who knows what will happen to the place once someone else gets their hands on it. It just reeks of old time charm and the food was darn good, exactly what diner food should be, tasty, cheap and served with love in this case :D

I may have been there. I worked in Clark for a short time a few years back and bounced around the local places. Because of the nature of those who settled the area, and the manufacturing base that was once there, places for good food at good prices were the rule.

Gah! You're right I forgot about nvidia's idiotic numbering system. The 9300 is an integrated chipset...ugh.

Belay my last...you may move along.

The GM plant in Linden gave them so much business before it closed.
Who on earth wanted to modify a plant genetically so that it preferred Polish food?

I've read that book. Just not in the original French.
You didn't miss much. The English translation of Pierre Boulle's prose style makes the polemic as well as the dialogue more accessible!

It's not as bad as the HP calculators reverse Polish notation ...

9300 is ...
9 - chip set generation
3 - functionality family
00 - subset if any (i.e. 50 is usually the integrated video version)

Lexxi,
Has the new one shipped yet?
You didn't miss anything this weekend. The grid was down the whole time. Everyone was ruthed. Group chat was borked. Dingos were running rampent. And all music streams were stuck on a disco station that played KC and the Sunshine band 24/7.

Nothing like someone getting out of their nice hybrid car, nice clothes and grocery shopping
out of the dumpsters....
I am all for recycling, reusing, not being wasteful, being green and all but if you can afford hybrid car or truck go to food co-op or grow your food, etc.
Save the dumpsters for those who that only way they can get stuff.
But sometimes dumpsters have good things that how my partner got to join SL some college student trashed their computer it had Geoforce Nvidea 7900 in it and good memory he could use to upgrade his computer.
Sometimes there is good things in dumpsters, people actually with trucks go looking for items to sell that way.
There was incident this crazy wealthy couple in my neighborhood who actually assault people for going through their trash.
One actually pulled a gun someone and another incident injuring someone for picking up high end electronics and high end items that they would replace every week and throw away on weekly basis a while back ago.

Good morning, threadies. Might I ask a favor? I'm SO not into censorship...but I've tried really hard not to be crabby about this weekend's various conversations.

Nasty comments about individuals...not cool; would you please consider taking these issues/discussions to PM or IM inworld???

Unkind comments about another's religion...really not cool. We get read by far more people than who post here...why alienate someone simply because they follow a different belief system? As someone whose forebears were repudiated/discriminated against for their religion, I feel it's a slippery slope.

OK...I am down off my soapbox.

Still not remotely true.

Edit: Oh, and sorry it took me a while to respond. The many meanies and I were busy discussing whether to allow those darn gays the same rights as us regular folk...

oh ugh. why doesn't someone just push a button and allow equality so we can all move on to something more fluffy. i hate discrimination.

unfortunately, the discussion is often about that (discrimination and opinions of) and not politics at all. i dunno, i like talking law i guess.

I liked the book. I haven't gotten around to trying anything else he wrote, like The Bridge over the River Kwai, or A nous deux, Satan!
