Anya - how about doing a survey on the top ten most effective conversation starters? I would be willing to hand over mine to you. I'm sure some others would. You could take them out to the clubs, and give them a whirl - even grade them for effectiveness. Then next time you do your surveying on whether there are actual people at a place, you would have a pretty good tool to verify. I can guarantee at least some kind of a response to most of them.

You know, Jig, I rarely get involved in this kind of thing. Your question didn't push my buttons at all. Legitimate, typical even, Forum thread. It was later when you appeared to pooh pooh the idea that a person who could not do certain things in real, could enjoy doing them in virtual. Being involved with the disabled community in SL, I simply know that it is true. Furthermore that they enjoy it. Why is the concept so hard to wrap your mind around? Everyone who is disabled isn't feeling 'desperate' about it. (I know, you said that YOU would feel desperate). But accept the fact that some don't, and they find things that they enjoy, like dancing up a storm in SL. Why couldn't you merely accept it as one of the answers to your question? There's just no need to argue about it, it was 'a' legitimate answer to your original question.

Sometimes it doesn't hurt to say, you know, after thinking about it, I could have handled that differently, or even say, yes, I do see your point. If you'd accepted it as one of the answers to the question you asked, and moved on, rather than rejecting and arguing about it, this thread never would have turned into what it did. Your thread asked a question. This was one of the answers given to the question. End of story, really, or rather, it could have been.

Also, it's kinda anti-social to go around calling people liars. Maybe you should start the convo's out with somethin other than, "Hey there, are you a bot? No? Liar!"

Yes I do say things that are politcially incorrect, but I can always back them up. Call me a racist if you want, I don't care. I defy you or anyone else to find anyone in SL or RL that I have treated different because of who they are, not how they act. I treat everyone as an individual deserving of respect, except for one group, asshats. I freely admit to discriminating against asshats.

And you are right Jig, I don't want your or anyone else's pity. I mention my illness only because it is a part of who I am. Because sometimes this forum is the easiest way to let friends know how I am doing or because my illness gives me perspective on an issue that others may not have.

i'm just looking at profiles ..i was talking with the dj and manager and a dancer that used to work here..most people if you look at their picks will tell if they are a bot or not..

i think Anya thinks the guys that are just standing around are bots..those are what we call studs hanging looking cool..no bots here..

people use gestures which some show up in green chat..they have been doing this for awhile now..
it doesn't make them a bot...if those are your bots then yes it's full of bots hahahaha

I'm not on my own computer anymore so I don't have the quote, but let's just say I had a very interesting conversation at the club. About the time you posted this someone was trying to figure out why I was talking to them. Curious timing.

That, and part of the conversation almost seemed like it referenced something I had said to another club-goer in IM, as if to say, "that wasn't as odd as you think it was...see, it could happen to you, too!"

I wonder how many conversations I can get going with the same person? If I test this you can bet I won't telegraph it first.
