From: Anya Ristow You keep saying that as if you think bots can't move to their destination. I suppose you also didn't know they have chat/IM interfaces so their owners can monitor conversation and pretend there's multiple people present? The 22:00 DJ lists her language as "english...and randomness" Randomness, indeed 18 minutes of total silence, and then 11 Spanish speakers start talking? Not entirely impossible, of course, but in the American evening there's no English? And I've seen it happen with French in the American evening, too? Yeah...edge cases, edge cases, edge cases...nothing's proven. Whatever. Looks like a stretch to me. They also spew random nonsensical gibberish into chat together. Gotcha. So that's what they're called now. Cliques. If it's a real following and not one person running multiple avatars, why isn't the conversation real? Why is it necessary to "LOL" when nothing funny has been said, "later, hun" when nobody has said they're leaving? Why would a real person say this... [20:17] [snip]: nah ! [20:17] [snip]: loool [20:17] [snip]: me either [20:17] [snip]: xD Ha Ha Ha HA HA Ha HA xD ...in response to nothing at all, at two different times during the evening? Frankly, I don't care if it's automated or if some human actually gestures this stuff into multiple client windows. It's fake traffic. It's fake conversation. It's someone, or multiple AVs, not actually there to converse, getting Lindens to take pictures of people dancing as if there was actually socializing happening. It's creepy, it's fake, and the more you defend it the sillier it looks. i defend it because i know from 3years experience of the place to your few hours there..you assume because of lack of experience there..because you can't get a response you feel they are bots..sounds silly to me to even try to defend it to someone that doesn't understand club life there really..i know what a bot is and what a clique is..you know what bots are..and thats where your experience ends.. assume away..you aren't gonna hurt the place..many have tried before and failed like you will..carry on like the rest.. keep going to clubs that don't have bots telling them they do or spreading rumors that they are using them when they are not.. ya it is impossible for a club to have that kind of traffic that is 3 years old and always had that kind of traffic.. you already called me a liar once in this thread..i'll just say you can't handle that you couldn't get a response there while my IM's were filling up.. that you are doing nothing but grasping for straws to be right.. I don't have to worry about being right..because i know i am and you know you are not 100% sure..you wouldn't be assuming if you were.. opens a box of straws and tosses them in the air.. have a good day

I don't have first hand information one way or the other.
But here's the occam's razor in my opinion, on whether 7E is crowded with bots.
Most people chat in IM in clubs out of courtesy to the others there who could likely care less about their personal conversation. Or, because they are on a 'date.'
Specific language oriented events will attract people who speak that specific language.
Many in clubs prefer not to talk at all. I'm like that myself.
If someone offered me $50L in a club I'd consider it an insult. Either I looked 'broke' or they thought I was an extremely discounted prostitute.
None of the above are proofs that 7E has bots, there are other much simpler explanations for each one.
Just my .02 on that discussion.

From: Scylla Rhiadra The Savoy IS awesome . . . if you are talking about the one in Virtual Harlem? But the biggest drawback is that it was nearly always deserted when I went there. I haven't been in more than a month: is it a bit more crowded now? Cri's gonna kill me! i can't remember the sim name. but The Savoy i'm speaking of is Jazz, Blues, and some swing with live singers. ill have to send You the LM once i get back and in world. if you enjoy a bit of jazzy blues with your coffee though go there Sunday mornings. great crowd and the hostess is a hoot and a half. but gimme a few and i'll check the lm i have.

But the third job, some call it, uh, "the show" or "the big dance," it's the profession that every linden aspires to.

And then factor in those who either do not speak the same language as the one posing the question, or who do not care to reply, because they are not feeling social.

From: Aeslyn Dae Exactly. From a self-confessed "iconoclast", no less. But this is now a bit of a recurring theme. I think this is the third, or is it fourth time? Flurry of Poke Teh Forum threads - forum responds - usual round of discussion, disagreement and storms in teacups - Jig makes a Drama Queeny speech on the lines of "Oh Woe Is Me I Am So (Youthfully) Misunderstood. I Shall Depart These Shores Ne'er To Return" - Forum tuts and rolls eyes - Jig flounces off - a short time passes when Forum goes on as usual - Jig turns up again. And so the circle begins again. -- Aes 1 User Agrees.

Why is it somehow important whether some obscure club (they're all obscure, really, hardly anyone knows about even a fraction of them) uses bots or not?

I never care about bot use until i arrive at some place and realize the traffic that brought me there is really a cloudy bot orgy happening at 4000m.

From: Melita Magic Pep - "Brass in Pocket" is part of a Pretenders song. I think Jig was trying to be cute.
("You got a lotta brass" is slang, whether its derivation has become muddled over time, it is usually meant as 'nerve.') Jig claims some sort of Northern origin and brass is slang for money derived from "oop north". http://www.businessballs.com/moneyslanghistory.htmPep (I listened to The Pretenders on an original Sony Walkman on a coach all the way (only cassette I had with me!) from London down to Monte Carlo in 1981 for the Monaco Grand Prix that Gilles Villeneuve won in a Ferrari. I got the allusion; I was pointing out that Jig didn't get Argent's, as it is not in common use in the UK.)

From: Aeslyn Dae Brass neck, more like, in the context. Brass balls and lack thereof being more associated with monkeys in freezing weather. -- Aes Confirming even further my point about the lack of care people take in miscommunicatiing their posts. I went to 7th Element last night to see for myself.
I have to say that if the (many) avs there were not bots then they could be easily replaced by them and nobody would notice. The club itself is pleasant but the excessive gesturbating, no welcome and no other conversation via IM or chat was too much really. When I go to a club it is rare I don't get welcomed and/or at least one or two IMs showing interest (not being immodest here, just facts). What amused me most is the list of rules as long as your arm about what you can and cannot wear for lag reasons and yet they allow excess gesturbating which is definitely going to lag.
I took a friend along and she is a neko, she was worried that the scripts in her tail would disallow it - she has a no tail, won't go policy. Anyway we went in. Nobody was enforcing anything - I went in wearing scripted claw weapons that were plainly visible and nothing was said to either of us (I wore mine because they look great with my outfit - not because I am some sort of weapons nut - I just was not going to remove my scripts just to please them, they are low lag when sheathed anyway).
After 10mins my friend said to me, "bots" and I said, "most likely". All in open chat, if it had not been for the gestures the chat silence would have been deafening.
I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings about this but this was my honest testimony, had it been even a smidgeon different I would have said so. Perhaps at another time there are more "real" people. I went at about 4am and though I only stayed for 15mins it was not typical of other places I have been to, though at 4am it is hard to find clubs that do have real people in them for the most part. Hence when I go to a club it is usually on a weekend or I try to go much earlier to catch the last part of the US evening.
I even disagree with Anya's comments that all places are like this and that conversation is mostly dead across the grid, however this place was not a good counter example to Anya's point.

From: someone I saw you pop in and greet the crowd. How'd that work for you? I was lagged real bad so left but I did have one greet me in IM. And had one that asked me to dance. So all in all the few minutes I was there thought it went well.

So I guess I have north in me. But I am more south. You know, Pep - my accent is primarily the "successful" one and has a tweak of Home Counties. (well, little north of there). As my grandmother told my Mum - "You can tell a man from Lancashire. But you can't tell him much." 1981? Wow! Did they actually have cars then? And what must it have been like to hear that claaical music for first time? Amazing. All those years ago. It makes you think.

Visualize if you will an arcade with a pair of Dance Dance Revolution machines side by side. Its 6:30PM EST on a beautiful fall evening. A visitor to the arcade has had enough fun delivering heart beams of cute death to challengers in Virtual On. Upon heading to the door of the arcade she spies the DDR machines, unused and idle with no one around. Curious she exchanges a $1 bill into four arcade tokens.
Popping in two of the four tokens she begins her journey into the addiction that was known back in 2003 as DDR. It was a short trip quite literally... A bit less than halfway through the first song she stumbles to her left twisting her left ankle on the floor a half a foot below the dance platform of the machine. The searing waves of pain from the injury causes her left knee to buckle with the rest of her body following downward.
One leg off, one leg on, her backside met with the edge of the machine, feeling similar to having been kicked in the backside by the universe and then some, effectively breaking her Nokia cell phone in half and bending the battery pack with the force of her landing.
Sitting was rather uncomfortable for a week. And returning to the arcade several weeks later she noticed the floor around the dance platform had been raised and padded mats had been installed around the machine's platform.
To this day she prefers her avatar dancing in SL rather than dancing in RL where she won't have to worry about performing a spectacular wipeout in front of anymore arcade owners. Or looking like an uncoordinated klutz on the dance floor.
