But you got better?

No, . . . I'm at that stage where I'm in-between; infected but not turned yet.

The transcript will put to rest any notions of "evil furries beleaguering innocent churchgoers".
Fair enough. But most of the beleaguering was going on here. And still is, by people who didn't read the first 30odd pages of the thread and decide to make assumptions without facts.

I dont see what the big deal is. Its a Thread. Theres a lot that are nastier.

Ive never reported any thread or any poster. Even those monstrous flame wars where I was getting beat up by 3/4 of the posters and direct insults were thrown at me.

--------------------------------

This whole thing sounds as simple as - They have a virtual replica church - they dont want to see non-humans in it. Likely becuase they dont want their church to look silly.

To some of us, of course - its the ban that looks silly.

If there had been no ban, I wonder how many furries they'd get. Probably not a lot.

cause its got a call for protesters on some guys private sim and ultimately resulted in someone showing up and crashing his sim. Its also full of racist type stuff and whatnot and a totally useless thread. It has no value to this forum other then to possibly cause what I said would happen. After telling people to leave him alone enough times and people feeling that its appropriate to not leave him alone on his sim its obvious that people dont get it and at this point I really dont care. The damage is done to some guy who's only crime was to build a cathedral on a sim and on occassion open it to some visitors and make a request that you be dressed a certain way. He hasn't done anything to deserve this kind of negative attention and be called a bigot and have his rules compared to natzi wartime germany with gas chambers or anything like that. That's why this thread should not be here

Perhaps you can do a story on this in the next Broadly Offensive Post.

I dont want to dismiss the issue - but theres griefers that just look for excuses to cuase mayhem.

Thats all this was.

For example there are griefers that grief gorean sims, they wear furry avs becuase they know goreans dont like furries. This isnt much different.

People just complaining in the sim? well they can be told to be quiet or they will be banned.

While I largely agree with your assessment, I would propose a different judgment on the value of this thread and others like it. IMO they are like dealing with sepsis: Instead of letting it fester, lance the boil, let the pus run out, and open it up to clean air and sunlight, and maybe a dose of medication...

words to more them people think they do and always have and this is no difference. If words didn't do anything then propoganda machines for instance would not be necessary or used. I'm pretty sure that the call for protesters coupled with the posting of various links to the place and furries making it so visible and whatnot brought this on ultimately.

And again I will assert that they should have just attempted to contact the guy first as this thread and the protest and all the time they took of this guys (his time they wasted his time with this stuff) may not have been necessary. Posting this thread likely caused a lot of people to port there to the protest using the link on the post (which has now been removed). It was a clearcut call for protesters to show up on a forum that many people can read in sl and not necessarily the right kind of person (meaning someone who will not cause trouble) Basically it was an general call to arms and it worked as intended not only did furries show up the "anti furries" showed up and this sim was converted to a battle field. (nice if you want to use the god anology here like some do your making war in "his house" ) and then people have the nerve on top of it to be nasty to him on the board and in the game.

Please dont close your eyes and tell me that this thread was not an advertisement for protesters because it was a link and a single sentance for people to show up and go to the protest was posted at one point. So words can and do hurt and in this case did despite what you say "its only a thread"

What specific posters say might cuase problems. That doesnt somehow mean the thread was without any merit.

there are more lurkers in forums then posters you know that for every forum poster there are about 50 lurkers.

and please dont take this simplistic route time and time again its been proven that hate can be stirred up with words. I"m surprised at your attidue collete your usually the one who worries about privacy and al that stuff now your doing a total about face and dont mind some guy who you dont know from adam being ridiculed and called names and protested about. Also if you dont think a protest on a private sim is not harrassment then i giveup.

The guy was very gracious about it unlike me I would have been booting and banning them all and likely putting up the red banlines and muting anyone who sent me a chat at that point. The guy gets bonus points for leaving his sim open but the fact of the matter is that showing up as a mob to protest the wording of a sign on a private sim without first contacting the guy quietly is in fact overkill and not the way people usually work in sl or in real world when it comes to disputes.

Step 1 is not go to the media and post a thread

step 1 is USUALLY for normal sane people to simply talk to the guy before they get an entire community worked up over what may be a total NON issue.

If you can't see that collette then you aren't the type of person I thought you were

I truly think that people's brains took a holiday for the long weekend to be honest because the response to this has been way over the top and very strange from the get go. I hope they find their brains soon though...

I'm just deeply saddened by this issue.

Wether you be a dragon, a pink lynx, a demon, a vampire, a blonde bombshell or a tiny...this is YOUR representation in SL. We choose the form we are comfortable in - the form that expresses what our online persona loves, hopes, dreams and joys. The skin you wear in SL is your identity...one to be proud of, to celebrate and embrace.

Comparing this situation with the Gorean requests on their sims is simply not right. They have a fantasy rp sim going which is attempting to create the feel of that experience and storyline. To say that the people who created this cathedral sim are operating under the same premise is not only misguided, but insulting. Is the Roman Catholic church an rp game, book or fantasy? Do they discriminate against ANY ONE wanting to worship in the house of the Christian God in RL? Do you think for a moment that the priest giving out communion would stop the sacraments to tell someone to leave because they weren't the "right type of people"?

Christians apostelize all over the world bringing people into the flock tended by a loving, caring and forgiving god. Do any of you christians - and I take the meaning of this word very seriously - honestly think that the Christian God cares what you are as long as you accept Jesus and his message into your heart? To be a christian is to be "Christ Like" - and trust me, a majority of the people out there proclaiming to be Christian from their fire and brimstone pulpits are about as far away from "Christ Like" as Stalin would be from Ghandi. I am not Christian, nor am I a furry in SL, but I find it horrifically insulting that any religious group would think to discriminate against others because of physical differences - RL or SL.

If you're going to build a replica of this Cathedral, don't you dare have the audacity to bring RL norms and expectations into a world where we can all fly and teleport...where I have meaningful conversations with a dragon friend of mine sitting on a sunny beach...where some of the most engaging and kind individuals I've met range from vampires to robots and foxes. Say it's a grand replica of a beautiful building...show off the beauty of it's architecture - but don't you DARE assume to speak for your Christian God by intimating that furries, and those others who don't fit your RL, homogenized view of society, can't love and be loved by your God by worshiping or visiting HIS house...the arrogance of that action and the emotions which accompany it is quite literally beyond my vocabulary.

It's their land. Fine. I'll never darken their misguided and insulting door. But the next time you try to marry religion with SL...think really hard about these quotes - ok?

"Do unto others as you would have done unto you"

"Let he without sin cast the first stone"

The Gateway to Christianity is not through an intricate labyrinth of dogma, but by a simple belief in the person of Christ.

Yeah, and try thinking of them as you go back and get informed by reading the last 30odd pages of this thread, where it becomes clear that they were not singling furries out as a matter of bias.

Maybe - I have no idea what the lurker rate is. Smaller than some forums Id bet becuase you dont have to further register to post.

The audience is still pretty small. Just looking at the "views" will tell you that.

Is that what happened here? Or did people already have a grudge and merely used this cathedral situation as an excuse?

Like I was saying griefers looks for situations like this to grief. People could have been 90% in favor of the church and it still led to griefing, I bet.

Look theres a sign banning people from entrance to one building on the Sim, right? Furries are allowed in the rest of the Sim. The Sim while private property is open to all generally. Them protesting on the area where Furries are allowed, respectfully, is not harassment. Especially if they havent been asked to leave.

The land owner has the discretion to ban them all for protesting or for just standing there, or if he knows their names ban them for not even being there.

It would definitely be harassment if they went into the spot where they werent allowed; to protest.

Calling someone names and ridiculing someone is harassment. Its particularily harassment in world.

People call me names all the time on the forums, theres very little outcry. Not that I expect there to be. The forums are a place where people offer up their opinions. If their opinions were negative about someone banning Furries .. well .. they were neagitive about someone banning furries.

You are right people shouldnt be inciting harrassment or griefing, of course.

I've been trying to get to the region for over an hour and the teleport just fails every time. There are only two green dots on the map there.

Excellent use of "the spin" Try using my quotes in the context of my reply before you attempt another half-hearted try to turn the sentiment of my words against me - better people have tried.

No they aren't. It is about "theoligical implications". They were not able to elaborate though.

It's called "respect" - some people in Sl seem not to be familliar with the concept. It's a Church, and fancy dress is hardly appropriate.

oddly enough it is 12:30 SL time so the build should be open to viewing and the entire sim appears to be locked down as well as the surrounding sims despite the fact that the map clearly shows that there are people on the main sim (and no not enough to make it full by the look of it). So much for the purpose of doing a build like this to get people to look at it especially if they won't even open up the sim when they say it'll be open.

here is the thing. I know me quite well ^^ I dont know others very well but I know how i react. So using me I would have reacted very differently to this thread had I been told that they tried to talk to the guy first about it but they failed to make their point. I'm pretty sure that this thread would have had much different types of posts as well as a result of it . I dont think I would have spent much time though protesting because I dont feel that we should be imposing our wants and needs on other people by demanding that he have open entry to everything as Im just not like that.

I hate name calling such as we have seen here and its never justified regardless of the situation but it happened none the less. Anyhow I guess people dont get what' i'm trying to say. An assumption was made on the "so called victims" that they were indeed experiencing some sort of "racial hatred", "bigotry" and "descrimination". The assumption from what has been revealed was indeed false. So they reacted inappropriately in this situation. I know i can't convince anyone of that but I still like to bang my head against a wall and say that this thread was a needless step at the point the step was taken in an effort to stir up the pot made on the basis of a false assumption. Also take into account that it looks like the sim owner is also having to please some heirarchy in the real world your kind of putting him between a rock and a hard place. If your truly angry at the catholic church then perhaps you should be calling them up or whatever and asking them in the real world then inside SL. In any event this thread was posted to stir up trouble and it worked. It if was just a discussion thread then requests for people to protest with links to port directly there would not have been posted.

The key is in the point of view expressed here. So they see it differently - okay. It is a disappointment but come ON. It's not bias in the sense that they are saying Furries are some representation of evil and must be banned. It's merely a point of view that is applying real world rules to the church. It's not like they have NO GAYS on the sign. It's not intended to be discrimination.

??? But it IS discrimination ... period. Based on Hate and Fear. So as long as I dont have a mask on.. I can go there in my metal skin, and that would fulfill ALL their discrimination rules. You will not find the elven lands saying they are not welcome because they are german, but you find them saying others that are not like them unwelcome. Sounds like basic skinheads to me.
