The garlic necklace just moves you to another -hidden- database.

What they really need to do is create a victim hud that has it's own database and everyone NOT on it can't be bitten.

Jaelin if you do a search on here for Bloodlines you will see what many feel about it. I for one have been pushing to have the BL be made like other combat systems and only work in set areas.

As for what you did asking to bite someone in a shop this is one of my complaints. If your not in a RP sim dont RP.

The other night i also came across an obnoxious "deamon" who had a staff that took souls when asked why she said to get to be #1. I asked her why she wanted to be #1 for bragging rights. BL is not the only one but it is by far the worse in that the invite that your HUD send out needs me to take action when i could be busy, if im in a shop guess what most likely im shopping and buying the drop down window is the same as the one you get when you buy something

I see that a couple members of the "Don't RP in a non-RP area" crowd have shown up yet again .... and still fail to realize that, barring their avatars looking exactly as they do in real life down to the smallest detail, they too are engaged in a form of role play.

That said, if it isn't your cup of tea ... don't respond to it and do what you have to in order to ignore or get away from it.

I ran a small RP group for a while, currently it is mostly used for custom titles only, that was not tied to any specific place or places. After all, let's be realistic here: There are not enough dedicated RP environments with truly differing themes. Bloodlines IS going about the idea in the wrong way: People DO need to be asked if they'd like to be included in the game ... However, to tell players to stick to dedicated areas is - in my book - a bit more rude than any unsolicited request.

If it does not affect you - don't complain about it.

Ok. Yes, I am an active bloodlines player. No, I am not a spampire. In all the time I have been playing, I have yet to bite someone who isn't already a vampire. I have found it to be rude to try to bite someone if they do not ask me about being a vampire. I wear my title and stats HUD so people know I am a vampire and if someone asks about it, then I have an intelligent conversation about it.

The Spampires are giving the game a horrible name. Not all BL players are like this. My first AV was bitten exactly how explained. I was not even a day old, was at a freebie shop and was offered to be bitten. To me, I thought said person was giving me something. Afterwards, I was looking in my inventory for whatever he gave me... and didn't see anything. a few month later when a friend scanned me and told me i was bitten, I was shocked. I had no idea.

To the OP. I just joined a very good "clan" who believes the same as I do. It is about the role playing aspect of BL that we enjoy. To "turn" someone, you must bring them to the house and another person must be there to explain what is being requested. If the person agrees, then they proceed. If they don't? No harm no foul.

It's all in the education of what the RP is all about. Most people do not take the time to explain what will happen and to see if the person is even interested. I myself find this horrible and would never act in this way.

EDIT - I am all for designated areas in SL where BL players can bite someone else. This way, if the person goes there then they know what to expect. Heck, why not have SL put it as a landright. No Rezzing, No scripts, No Bloodlines. I put scripts and BL separate because I know no scripts will kill the BL HUD... but why kill all scripts if you just want to kill BL

I found one problem with making the hud work only in designated areas and that's that spampires will change their tactics. Oh, they'll still hang out at the newbie ares or high traffic areas, but, they'll then offer a TP, probably on the promise of freebies or L$. Newbies still won't have a clue what's going on and the spampires will still get their "souls."

What I'd recommend the Bloodlines makers to consider is this: When someone is recruited and wants to be a vampire, they must first have a wait period, in which they are bitten and the soul is taken, before they can become a vampire themselves. These people will be blood-dolls for that time period, while allowing them to learn the system. Then limit the hud's ability to send bite requests so that it can only send them to the people on this database.

Might encourage actual recruitment and will definitely clean up the system's image.

But this makes too much sense and not enough L$ for the creators, so it's likely to never happen.

You can already eject and ban spampires from your land.

If you are not on your own land and they are harrassing you, you can mute and AR them.

If folks were consistent with those two actions, already in the system, it would be a much more effective action against Bloodlines then anything LL could screw up trying to do right.

Use the tools available folks.

Mute, Eject, Ban, AR the people harrassing you. That's all that's needed.

You CAN opt not to be a part of it... by getting a Garlic Necklace (FREE)... but if you are accidentally bit before hand, you are a part of the game via their web server and database until you remove yourself... and then its another story to get your soul back and your humanity restored as that costs $L to do!

I used the garlic necklace and still get IMed all the time by Vamps wanting to bite my neck. *sighs* So much for opting out of a game I never wanted to be a part of.

If my nephew comes over, puts on a magician costume, and pretends to turn me into a newt, I don't lose sleep because he didn't turn me back after his mom came to pick him up. I guess it would be nice if he cleaned up after himself, but it's OK, I'm really not a newt, even if he does write my name down on a list of people he's turned into newts.

I would AR him- the nephew... Geckos are really the "In" lizard de jour, you know.

Sure this works if you own the land where the request was made. But if someone shopping as the OP was it's not possible and the store owner isn't aware of it unless someone tells them so they can handle the mute/ban.

Just the other day a Vampire messages me and said.. "you have been here 3+ years and have never been bitten and have such a pretty neck".. My reply.. THINK about that. Keeping this type of RP in the RP area avoid's these problems. Stores that are not located on a Bloodlines RP area should NOT be used for these activities it's not fair to the business owners.

My response would have been, "Oh, I see you've been in SL for X number of days/months/years and haven't been turned into a pile of ashes. Let me rectify that." I think somewhere in my inventory I have a fire breathing dragon...

Huh, what kinda places do you folks hang out to see all these vampires? I really don't run into them on my main AV and I've never accepted a bite before.

On an alt however, I did accept a bite request once and apparently that frees you from ever getting another one. Bonus! I just deleted the bite marks from my inventory and went on my way. It hasn't affected my SL experience at all and I don't get requests anymore (didn't even need a stupid necklace). :P

I didn't vote, because I really don't have such a strong opinion, but I think the OP seems sincere, and sincerely disappointed by the Bloodlines HUD/RP.

OP, since you are so new, you could just let Jaelin Kira sleep for awhile and create a new avatar, start over, soul intact. :) (If you continue logging into SL sooner or later you will realize you need an alt).

I do object to the Bloodlines name database, because it is publicly accessible -- which I think is a breach of privacy.

I find this vampires stuff to be deeply and truly boring. I find myself moved to fits of severe apathy whenever anyone mentions and overcome by an overwhelming desire to reach for the mute button whenever anyone mentions anything to do with any vampire shenanigans.

Just elect not to play. I don't see the problem. I accepted bite from a good friend who was playing and I think I'm in the database. I don't care. I have not ever in a whole year been approached by any other vampires. If I do get approached I'll either just politely decline and maybe even strike up a conversation with them. I don't intend to play Bloodlines at all.

It's only a big deal if you make it one. Stay laid back... don't stress yourself over it.

I'm not saying this necessarily to the OP. She is very sincere and is disappointed with the game.

If I were gonna play, I'd want to look like this:

Now would that be cool, or what??? Awesome in a sort of 1970's TV, Rocky Horror sorta way...

Ah well. Lolcats applied as garlic-necklacey antidote to drama thread.

.. so, there I am, riding my Hobo bike down the road near Ahern, wearing my Mary Poppins type get-up, Christmas tree hat on my head, snowing even! and some dorky vampire swoops over and asks, 'May I bite you?' (sooo polite hey wot?)

I snarled at'im 'p**soff or you'll get my brolly up yer nose mate' (ok, so I fell out of *my* RP myself for a moment, I was ticked a bit ya see? I SHOULD have sweetly offered'im a spoonful of garlic, I know!)

And the moral of the story is vamps..choose your targets with a bit of common sense hey wot? or they'll make you sorry you were ever bo.. I mean, undeaded.

I have been spammed by vampire's asking to bite my neck at just about every texture store in SL...including the really big ones. I'm sure the owners have no knowledge of vampires waiting around for people to TP in. I just click No and TP somewhere else... although it does irritate me to no end since it takes forever for anything to rez anymore..especially at texture stores.

I got bitten once. It was a dull experience. I have never been annoyed again by vampires. I haven't noticed any ill effects from losing my soul. I guess it wasn't doing much, maybe even nothing at all.

Cal, me too. I only got bitten. However, I wasn't informed that I would be on some database. It wasn't until I started reading the forums that I found out and saw my name on their website.

I don't play Bloodlines and I am not going to purchase anything to have my "whatever" restored. Although I am not too happy that my name is on some database. It isn't hurthing anything either.

My sl life has not been hampered and I am happily married/partnered. If anything, I am not hassled about you want me to bite you ims.

Huh.... I went to vampire island the other day and I didn't get any bite requests there either. :D

Well... a vampire *DID* RP with me and try to "invite" me to a party at a castle. However, I told him to leave me and my lady alone to shop or I'd unveil my true demonic form and devour him. He left.

Yes, it's certainly about the nature of the RP rather than the general principle. I mean, see how most of these people would react if they were told that you were playing a philanthropist and would have given them money if they'd given you permission to RP (but you didn't ask for permission - because, after all, that is what the spampires are doing)

Plus, I've been told to "just do it" by experienced RPers far too many times for "waiting for permission" to be a good general strategy.
