I am not making any assumptions Rioko. I just think forums changed so much and seems to have become a means to express deep-seated dislike of others. No one forces me to stay and I am pretty sure my presence is not welcome (although I have never met 99 percent of you in sl itself and all you would know of me is from my profile) I just feel that maybe this incredible ability we have been granted by lindens could be used to more effect and for a better purpose. That's all.

I think Lindens do read teh forum or at very least have a sampling each day. It would be a naive business person who did not gauge the quality of his/her product by not making private investigations into the product itself.

I seem to recall that - a few years ago - a linden in an interview suggested that it would be interesting to create a parallel world with little or no terms of service or rules to see how long it take before society disintegrates. Dystopia as opposed to Utopia.

If a series of comments that one makes brings out the worst in people.....that's their responsibility as much as it is ours. It is irresponsible to hurl out judgments towards other people's behavior, when one often exhibits the same exact behavior. Not without fault myself, as I know that debating with a particular forum member will result in pure ugliness from both parties....but only took one thread and one lesson....not several dozen.

One can observe people's reactions and learn.....or one can start another thread just like this next week, contribute to the negativity.....and be disappointed and offended once again.....which is the pattern.

There is nothing vicious about pointing out that repeated irresponsible behavior which consistently results in mental anguish and torture for the creator is going to lead down the wrong path. Offering up suggestions bluntly on how one can eliminate that anguish and torture for themselves is not "ugly" at all.

The people here, who continue to "Coddle" are not helping (quite obviously). If coddling worked....and one has received their fair share....there would not be a need for the original post, or many others that preceded it.....which answers the original question...NO...things do not change.....

unless you simply stop using the same method that produces the same results.

No sense in worrying about the new members witnessing ugliness....there will be another one just like it tomorrow. I sent it to a few new members as a prime example of how NOT to spend your hours in SL.

You know what? Today is the first day in months that I can recall seeing any true "nastiness." Maybe I just ignore the bot and banline threads too much, but even then, I can't recall any truly angry and personal disputes occurring for a long time.

The forum's reputation for "nastiness" is overblown, and I think some folks here are entirely too focused on relatively rare occurrences. Even with all the tempers spewing, look at the forum: people are asking questions and getting helped, with no drama. Look at where all the drama is.

I dare say it speaks for itself.

Absolutely not true, at least for me. Sometimes your threads are overwhelming in their appearance (a new one every day is a little much) but overall I do enjoy them for the discussion they create. You and I have crossed swords, it's true, but I do like a lively conversation. I honestly can say that your presence IS welcome to a few people.

I keep coming here to be entertained, to learn new things, to be amused, to hang out with the other denizens, get to know them better, and develop and strengthen friendships. To me lot of things are changing all the time. The things, that you complain are making you tired, aren't likely to change any time soon. But I have no trouble ignoring them and going to do something else somewhere else. No one that I can remember has ever hurt my feelings here. In part I'm sure because I tend to fail to recognize insults and attacks, but also because I don't bother about situations I don't enjoy. I'm all about myself and I assume everyone else is primarily interested in satisfying their own needs and desires.

Rha, something I've always felt you and I have in common is a desire to help others. I find that I get the best satisfaction in life when I am able to freely give my time, expertise, and other resource to some on for no other reason that wanting the feeling I get when I've made things better for someone. I know that I'd ruin that good feeling if I set myself up for disappointment by desiring more gratitude and more than mere acknowledgment.

As I have mentioned before in these forums, there are quite a huge number of folks reading who do not post. At least for me, my reputation and the perceptions of potential customers, potential friends and even potential acquaintences in SL can be influenced by what and how i post in any of these threads. People DO see the behavior here and they DO react whether it is to decide not to post, not to visit a certain vendor or just to form an opinion of someone here based on their posts. I know for me personally I make judgements based on how people behave here and form an opinion of how they would treat me as a friend or customer. For those behaving badly, I tend to decide not to ever do biz with them or interact unless absolutely necessary.

This is not directed at anyone in particular here, but I know quite a few of us are biz owners in SL. For me, it is not acceptable to ever post in the manner that i have seen here. I guess I just wish others felt the same way. This is a public place. I dont think most folks would go stand in their town square or mall and have this type of conversation with the snide remarks and venom spewing...why would folks think it is ok or appreciated here? Too bad that the anonymity of forums gives people the mistaken perception that their words dont matter.

I think the cost and effects of the type of interaction and behavior exhibited in these forums is MUCH more far reaching than folks here realize. Just something to keep in mind...at least for me...when posting.

not saying I am not "accepted" as that would mean I think everyone dislikes me... and shuns me etc

when I know that is silly, as I do have some friends here, some keep quiet and we communicate only via im and pm, others speak out

but I also have enemies here too, and folks who dislike me and make it pretty obvious, and others who dislike me and do not make it obvious.

I guess the same could be said about everyone in the forums though...
