From: Marianne McCann So to you, Rhaorth, and to others who might be having a hard time enjoying Second Life: by all means, take some time to get out there and find your spark. go "get your groove back" if you will, and enjoy yourself. Jes... have fun!
Mari
when I first joined SL I did the social thing and the exploring etc, cuz at that time that is all I thought there was Now that part of SL holds no interest to me at all. I enjoy creating, but lately that even seems to be gone when I say my job in SL I do not mean my store or other creating stuff I mean my RL customer service job for the sim owners, it is not a hard job by any means, but it is mind numbing and time consuming. It however, does help pay the bills and at this time is the only job I have (I am looking but jobs are scarce)

From: Lindal Kidd Good grief, Rha...you're just now noticing this? Sweetie, it isn't just the forums, and the repetitiousness of life was noted many, many years ago. From: Ecclesiastes (Ecclesiastes 1:9-10 NIV) What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun. Is there anything of which one can say, "Look! This is something new"? It was here already, long ago; it was here before our time. ZOMG, that's some necropost there, Lindal!!

From: Jig Chippewa I dont frequently go to the forum clubhouse in sl (when I do its to measure myself) because of all teh rules taht are applied there - yes there are rules. No nekos lacking clothes. Treat child avis as children (which I never do), keep language clean etc. I actually dont go anywhere much. I do the galleries and stay at home with my partner. This place allows me to comment to others as I might do if I was with a group of people at a party or a dinner I am invited to to share with relative stangers. But it is interesting how forum "type" are often dinner party types. I gt into a real row with a person last week in real who was so obviously anti-semitic I went ballistic. I'm going to stay out of the fray here but I wanted to address your impression of the Hangout because I think I think you have a very incorrect view of the Clubhouse. The first tenant of being there is we leave inworld grievences behind us. No matter what happens here, it is always friendly there. I can't ever remember being there where a fight of any kind occurred, or even a heated argument. If by any chance I'm there and there is someone I dislike around? I just don't interact directly with that person but I certainly don't make a big deal over it, I can be friendly in general chat with the crowd around easily. Additionally, there might be some loose rules however, I can't really say they are followed. Nearly anything goes there. For the most part, the child ava's are rarely there so we all behave as adults and do and say very adult things. That place has gotten seriously deviant at time. I think many of us remember the evening the girls (and some of the guys) stripped down to their lingerie and were wielding whips around?. If by some chance one of the "kids" walks in, we tone it down for their sake as we respect everyones right to the SL they envision but it is by no means a "PG" area. For many, the Hangout is a place to come and relax, let loose, be with friends and be themselves. Many of us know each other quite well there; we share ourselves quite personally - even more so than here on the Forum. It's filled with forward thinking people, many of whom I'm sure share plenty of interests with you. Feel free to drop in sometime again. I assure you that you'd be as welcome as anyone else is (except for those half naked blingy noobs, because you know they do deserve to be made fun of )

So what would happen at the hangout if a child av went in and someone used words like "f-ck", or stripped down to undies, or rezzed a pole and danced on it, stripping too?
I'm with Jig on the child av thing - they are adults and I treat them as such.

It's interesting. There are rules at the hangout. They are basically to allow the place to be as inclusive as possible.
The general rule was, at the outset, that the hangout is PG even though it's on Mature land. There was a conscious effort to tailor that vague rating by what would be appropriate for being around adults playing children. So yes, nudity isn't allowed, and a certain decorum is desired (until after a particular time, I understand), for the benefit of the majority in general, and children avatars in particular.
However, I recall not too long ago a rash of strip teases occurring at the hangout. So the place is flexible. The only people who won't feel welcome there are those who are themselves inflexible, IMHO.

(maybe I am just jaded with SL, *shrug* who knows) I also do not check the WAR forums, the only ones I look at at the guild forums, which are fun and informative but not used a lot as the guild just started recently) anywho, I am rambling, so off to do some stuff

There are rules. One of the reasons I am so rarely at the hangout any longer. One being the being clothed before a certain time. Then I'd look at the hangout hud and see known child avatars there after that hour. And so there really are several months where I didn't poke my head in (couldn't go before a set hour, couldn't go after because saw child avatars listed as present). Nothing against kids, per se, but the rule did seem to go into effect right when I had some clothing restrictions imposed. Oh, and it still stated in present tense, "am so rarely at hangout", as once you start not going, it is hard to resume the practice of going even after certain clothing restrictions are lifted. I did dance provocatively ontop of Vamp at the hangout the other day, though.

From: Kyllie Wylie Question should be "do people ever change" and untill we evolve to a higher life form, the answer is "nope" yep...it's just human nature, that's why over years you see the names are different, but the trends stay pretty much the same, lol. I almost posted a thread like this a long time ago, but I'm glad I waited for somebody who posted a lot longer & held thier tongue to do it for me

I thought that was just a giant fishing hole. There was a building at one point. Oh, and some signs about how that fishing game is a big scam. The owner of the land above, in elevation, to Hot Martian, has put up extensive walls recently. I liked when all that land, Martian's and the land above, plus maybe the land above the observatory, was owned by one person. And he/she put in some neat things. Castle, volcano. Club inside volcano. I enjoyed watching the building, and kept waiting for something to appear. A "now open" sign or similar. I had some fun when I'd teleport to Allana to the 0,0,0 point as that would put me inside the volcano. And I'd explore. had a real fantasy element to it when Crazod wandered in as a dragon, and I was dressed in my Ann Bolyen outfit. "don't eat me dragon!"

I haven't actually looked since I moved, couple months ago, but Hot Martian started building something huge on Whitesun. I had my lil 1024 'getaway' parcel there, and several others had parcels, and he just built those big walls and everybody be damned. No more pretty valley views. So I just told myself 'welcome to the mainland' and was able to swap few parcels down where that won't happen to me. The property facing me now, is a big resort with all kinds of beauty, lush vegetation, just a beautiful garden. The owner of that made his walls on my side transparant, so I'm really happy with my parcels there now. Haven't checked lately to see what Hot Martian is doing.

The 'land above' Hot Martian' was where I owned my little 1024 parcel. That one owner you speak of bought a sim, elsewhere, that's why they sold the parcels. I bought mine, from him. I already owned parcels on 2 island/estates, and this was my first mainland experience. When I first bought the parcel, a big, black BDSM club opened next door to me. I waited them out and they left. Then Hot Martian came and as his walls rose, I thought, nnaaawwww I'm going. Swapped my little parcel there to the lady you mentioned who puts up big walls 'above' Hot Martian's place. She owned most of what was all around me anyway, so it was an easy swap for both of us.
