I prefer Ben Casey, myself. Its about whether little Timmy will live, or if Doris will get her much needed transplant organ!!! *cue eye moistening drama music* Oh Doctor, ... *cough* how long do I have? *Doctor looks away, face torn with pain* Jenny, I ... I, *forces a smile* I won't let you die Jenny, I promise. We will find a way. *cue even more eye moistening love music as they gaze limpidly into each other's eyes* BTW I think your post would be much better as: "It's only a Drama. No one dies." ![]() |

not bitching as much as wondering if it ever changes one can comment without it being bitching or is that too hard to grasp? I knew someone would have a problem with my post, but ya know what I don't give a damn... I am tired of all the petty crap happening in here, and was wondering if I am the only one. I guess it's not going to change, beside this place is a kindergarten compared to what goes on in other forums, wanna see crazy try some unmoderated newsgroups, people don't realise how good this forum really is. _____________________

I guess it's not going to change, beside this place is a kindergarten compared to what goes on in other forums, wanna see crazy try some unmoderated newsgroups, people don't realise how good this forum really is. Amen to that. This place ain't got nuttin' on, well... most of the web. FWIW, if you don't like what is here, if it bothers you to some level, then there's really two good options. Be the change, or find some other place more to your liking. I tend towards the former, and try to conduct myself here in a fashion similar to how I'd like to be treated. I like the culture here, the feeling of the place. It is more positive to me than some other SL forums -- though they all have their own cultures as well. To the OP. You've talked elsewhere about tiering down and such. Perhaps you are suffering some really bad burnout, and need to find what it is you like about this world we all share. _____________________

To the OP. You've talked elsewhere about tiering down and such. Perhaps you are suffering some really bad burnout, and need to find what it is you like about this world we all share. mmhmm you are right, I am burning out and not sure what keeps me interested in SL (I come for the job, but I do not stay when done working) and yes I decided to tier down for now, reduce my costs keep the store, but not stress on making new stuff until I find it fun to do so... If I do not find the fun again, I will just sell the land and close the store, and who knows, eventually I might just walk away from it all... good night all _____________________

...bored silly, and was browsing the threads and noticed it was the same ol thing and wanted to see if it was just me seeing things that way No Rha, it's not just you that notices it. But it's rather hard to have anything that's NOT the same ol thing here when there's not a lot of "new" to choose from, and much of what IS new gets pounced on, derailed, nitpicked apart, or just pummeled into conformity by those same forum nazi's you speak of. Besides... Last I knew, it was still up to our resident clique as to whether something is nurtured or killed here. Doesn't even matter if it bends the rules or not. If they like it, it's embraced and defended. If not, it gets flamed/derailed/buried. In the professional world, we call that a "Workgroup Steering Commitee", and it's sole purpose is to maintain approved direction and content for a larger group. I say why not blame the clique for being boring an unimaginative? lol After all, it's their gang mentality that decides what stays and what goes around here ![]() |

(I come for the job, but I do not stay when done working) I hear this from a lot of folks who burn out, it seems. For myself, I run my You Know, For Kids stores, which now have some seven locations. I have four "Plant Stands." There's a place I sell from in the still-living Holiday Marketplace. I do professional building with The Magicians. In short, I do a *lot* of work in SL. I try, however, to balance that with a lot of play. I attend events. I explore. I hang out with friends. I do... well, those who read the "let it die" thread know about my weekends. I go out and have fun. Why? Well, I joined Second Life because I thought it was a game or, at least, a diversion from the things I faced in the real world. I still face things there, while the U.S. economy tanks and takes me along for a sin down the tube, for example. Some people watch television. some go out and get drunk. Some play first person shooters. I hop on Second Life. You know, to have fun an stuff. So often it seems we (and this is a royal "we" nothing more) forget to have fun. We work long hours in the real world, then we turn on our computers and work in our shared world of Second Life. We become jaded, and lose sight of that spark that got us into Second Life in the first place. So to you, Rhaorth, and to others who might be having a hard time enjoying Second Life: by all means, take some time to get out there and find your spark. go "get your groove back" if you will, and enjoy yourself. Jes... have fun! Mari _____________________

when i used to come here to get an answer it always surprised me how fast the response time was in getting an answer.. most times the questions are answered in the first few posts.. myself i think what you have is a bunch of people that like to help and have a lot in common and they found a place they could come together and help and socialize as well.. most of the threads are already finished before the play begins..but i think without that little bit of fun or the discussions or whatever in an already finished thread..people would be bored and not hang in the forums and questions would sit there a lot longer before being answered. i think people do a great job in the goal of the section.. sure some threads kick the dog to death..i don't see it hurting anything if they are not blocking new questions or problems from being answered..i think they do more troll blocking in my opinion.. trolls get outnumbered pretty fast from what i've seen hehehehee This. and this: "It's only a Forum. No one dies." There is very little "nastiness" here, spare us that line. And I personally agree with Love, I found the tone of the original post to be negative, since we already know that you're burning out and you tend to get personally offended by things people say here and have had your fair share of drama. So you say it isn't complaining. Ok, sure, but it is a fair observation from my point of view for Love or anyone to not be convinced. Agree to disagree, end of story. People that seek help get it, and fast. Some people use this place as their personal blog and I ignore those posts. General chatter related to SL is usually acceptable (there was a news exception in the rules, iirc). But kitten pics, random musings... well, if LL gives a crap they will put a stop to it in time but in the meanwhile, it is a waste of energy to say anything. And to answer the actual question: human nature doesn't change, so, no. _____________________

I have been in SL nearly 3 years, and it seems I see the same thing on these forums. This is the Resident Answers forum, so there is no need for the questions and answers to change. Different people want to know the same things quite often. So? It is also a discussion forum, mainly about SL topics and occassionally about other stuff too. There is no need to change that either. If the same topics keep coming up from time to time, who cares? As long as there are people who want to discuss them, there is no need to change it. This isn't a forum in which the regulars have to be be entertained with new topics - nobody here has to be pandered to on that score. This isn't a forum *for* the regulars - it is for SL users. If a person gets fed up with the same old things, they have the absolute right and choice to stop even looking here. _____________________

Good grief, Rha...you're just now noticing this?
Sweetie, it isn't just the forums, and the repetitiousness of life was noted many, many years ago. (Ecclesiastes 1:9-10 NIV) What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun. Is there anything of which one can say, "Look! This is something new"? It was here already, long ago; it was here before our time. _____________________

Last I knew, it was still up to our resident clique ... Right. I forgot. There's another class of post for this forum. The evil clique, which I still haven't been able to properly identify. I think Brenda might be in it? Hey, do you know the way to Shell Beach? Sure. You take Fifth Street to... hmmm. No, you take ... I can't seem to remember. _____________________

RA is not the only section of the forums, and plenty of people are learning new skills in the Content Creation forums everyday. People are learning new things in RA also, every day. There are newer people here, myself included, who most of these issues are fresh, to. Because of what I learned here I was able to successfully escape from a vampire the other day who was drowning me in blue pop ups, and doing his best to put me in some kind of box. Kept my cool, and my soul, because of what I learned from the vampire threads on this forum. Get names of new places to check out all the time, from here. Learned of the sale at the clothing store last night from the Cartel group chat, and got some fun new clothes. I'm sorry you are bored, and kind of embarrassed that 'it's the people'. I guess that happens just over time, for me, I'm still enjoying it and learning. Cheers, Treasure _____________________

It's all and fine for the seasoned among us to declare that RA isn't helpful to new people anymore, but it takes a new person's perspective to know whether it's actually true. _____________________

I guess it's not going to change, beside this place is a kindergarten compared to what goes on in other forums, wanna see crazy try some unmoderated newsgroups, people don't realise how good this forum really is. Have to agree. I've been part of newsgroups that would make the worst of the threads seem mild, even though I know personally in RL most of the news group members, and those news groups are mild compared to anything political or that can be twisted to political (i.e. things to do with public transportation, where the same people have been voicing the same half-formed opinions for literally decades). This forum seems to be in a constant state of transformation, but it isn't obvious. The threads seem to repeat, but unlike many newsgroups, some people leave and new people join. I guess I have a high annoyance threshold for things like repeated topics (lord knows, how many times have I heard the phrase in RL, "You know what they say about (fill in the state), if you don't like the weather now, wait a few minutes" The only two places it really applied well was around Detroit because of the lakes and Monterey because of the fog.) Some topics are evergreen. My mild annoyance is toward those who think they should be treated special, and I don't mean Phil or Pep (both of whom seemed to treat all pretty much equally, based on the nature of the post or the reply). People put out an opinion in a discussion forum and get hurt if everyone doesn't tell them how brilliant it was or agree with it totally, then they come back with accusations for nothing more than expressing a different opinion than theirs. Some get obviously hurt when their post isn't replied to (hell, I am used to being ignored. Sometimes I've reread a post and realized being ignored was the best thing that could have happened). Well, that's the way it is in these places, so let it go. Otherwise, these threads are pretty benign and really aren't helped much by moderating. There is a high level of self-moderating applied compared to most places. And here's the short answer: Let it be. There is nothing seriously wrong here that a good Friday thread can't cure. _____________________
