I don't think it's really that suprising that people associated nudity with sex. I mean, when I see a vagina, I think of sex - a vagina's primary purpose is, after all, sexual.

The rest of us don't want to see your........stuff.

When you can sit and talk with a girl on a beach, and she can sit in any way she feels comfortable, exposing anything of the sort, and not think of having sex with her, then you graduate

That is just frightening... I would hope I never sit nude in front of a man and not give him carnal thoughts....

This thread does remind me how useful SL is for people who want to try alternative lifestyles without taking the plunge for real. I hope you do find your community, Cen. If I were on mature land, I'd offer it as a meeting place. I'm hardly ever there. But sadly it's PG, so I don't think that would go over well.

Let me ask an actual SL question.. if you wear just a fig leaf in a PG area, will you be banned? (still covering up the crotch though).

It's kinda gray. Some PG places are non-judgmental and let people get away with just covering their 'bits'. Others don't even allow driff tops. I've been to "mature" regions where people complain about my clothing. Everyone keeps their own standard. (^_^)

I mean banned from SL completely, not someones sim. Like, I was told if you went nude at an infohub, your account will get closed.

For an adult sized AV... I'm sure you would need a list of repeat ARs a mile long before they even consider it. (^_^)

I was in a mature sim, I just made a vintage looking garter outfit with a cute bra top.. I had a prim skirt on and panties.. (I had just made it and was trying to fix some things, so I figured the LM I got to a show (that THEY sent me) I could listen while I worked)

NE way I was ejected from the venue and the guy would not return my IM as to why I was ejected! I had not said a word, except Hello.. otherwise I was keeping to myself listining to the music.

The kicker is when I TPed in, there was a woman there who was cursing in the open chat like a sailor..(and I mean som e BAD language) yet she was allowed.. I didn't say a word to anyone.. And I am a VERY quiet person/avatar and respect people around me.. so why i got ejected... God only knows.


FTR: I do not go around SL naked... Well there was that once when SL decided to down my region and dumped me at a train station with 30 other avatars.. PG sim to.. well, that was not my fault.. I was changing clothes when it happend.. (no other information needed)

Well yeah, but that's to be expected...

1. If you can't find an area in SL that satisfies your requirements, the great thing is, you can build your own. And you're in luck, I've been reading that the cost of buying private islands has gone down.

2. An area featuring nudity without sex is going to be difficult to maintain in SL. I have no hard numbers or no studies I can cite, but I'm going to guess that the number of serious nudists in SL are far, far outweighed by the number of SL users looking for cheap sex. To really achieve what you want, you're probably going to have to be far more restrictive than the typical SL area. That means, instead of a public area to which all of SL is invited, you probably need a private area that can be accessed by invitation-only from the area owner(s).

3. You're only going to have limited success advertising for like-minded nudists in these forums. Create a group dedicated to your vision, and start recruiting in-world, with some targeted advertising (aimed at like-minded persons).

4. Your feelings on nudity probably depend a lot upon the country from which you come. In general, Europeans do far better with the concept of non-sexual nudity. Likewise, generally, Americans consider nudity the filthy, inevitable prelude to sex. (Then again, many American men think that paying the check at a nice restaraunt is the filthy, inevitable prelude to sex.)

5. I would guess that there has to be some sort of different dimension with SL nudity than RL nudity, based on the fact that the overwhelming majority of (human) avatars, male and female, look like supermodels. Male "attributes" in SL tend to be twice the size of their RL counterparts. (And I'm not complaining about the size of male "attributes" in SL.) It is my understanding that one of the features of the nudist lifestyle is about fostering positive feels about one's natural, real body, in contrast to the Lookism that pervades modern society. Nothing about most (human) avatars is very natural, and more Barbie-and-Ken.

6. Wearing clothes in SL is a much different experience than wearing clothes in RL. In SL, I wear 4" heels almost all the time, and they never feel unconfortable. All clothes in SL are slimming (at least, that was the case before Windlight). Getting dressed conceivably takes a matter of seconds (minutes during periods of lag); getting undressed is even faster. You wake up (log in), your clothes are on. You can sleep (log out) without taking your clothes off. They never wrinkle (beyond the original wrinkles painted in the texture), and are always clean, and never get a bad smell to them.

This is one of the things that I love about SL. I don't have to eat, sleep, feed the cat, go to the bathroom, cook food, go to the grocery store...I wish RL was more like that.

As far as the nudity goes, I think that we agree that you are not the issue, it is people's reaction to your nudity that causes the problem. Just like RL, find like-minded people and run around in your birthday suit there!
