I say get rid of the freeloaders first! They have done nothing to support Linden Labs. They slow down the system in their camping and then there is the endless supply of griefers.
No I will not delete anything to help until Linden Labs gets rid of the freeloaders!
I am tired of giving and getting nothing in return!

But IMHO the real problem is MySQL, whose underlying architecture is not up to this task. What LL is trying to do with it is scary.

They use MySQL?! Jeez!

The people with 1000,000 items are probably the samew ones complainging that they have things dissapearing, makes them a bigger target or just easier to lose stuff in wrong folders, I reckon I have only lost 1 or 2 items in 12months, many I suspect I accidently deleted or I have found 3 months later in the folder of an alt :)

Post the funniest/oddest/most embarrassing thing you delete during your next inventory purge. ...
Judging will be done by someone impartial and non-cliquish: Trent Laws.
.
Well Ray, I think that if the item is trans we should actually GIVE it to Trent so he can really tell if, for example, my thong-with-dreadlocks is odder than Trout's roadkill AV. Don't you agree?

<edit: actually, that's not a good example, if I had a roadkill AV I would sure keep it. OK, Trout's new biplane made completely out of freebie penises.>

Yup. See: http://www.mysql.com/customers/customer.php?id=226

Scary, isn't it?

I talked to Trent. He is fine with just hearing people's descriptions of their items and not having them sent to him. He also expressed suprisingly little interest in receiving your thong-with-dreadlocks.

So why do these basics camp? Earn Linden$? Why? To spend on content or services?
One of the nicest people I've met was basic for around a year till just recently. She's been a dancer, a DJ and a good companion.
I'd agree to at least do something about the camping .. but the campers are merely opportunists, probably not griefers.

I figured this out on my own recently.
I have an alt I use sometimes who only has 6000 items total.
Sae account has 30,000+.

Sae can hardly move...ever. Sae has crashing all the time, up to 5 times in one hour sometimes. Sae is a miserable avatar to be on.
Alt can do anything with NO lag at all, no matter what, no matter what sim alt is in. Alt never crashes. Alt can play SL in zero lag all the time, the way my computer SHOULD run SL.

The difference is huge and I have been working on my inventory since I found out. Let's just say I'll be having a HUGE yard sale thing soon to get rid of the junk. Since I have so much for creation for my business, I have to get rid of things that aren't necessary at this point.

I'm still basic - but I'm spending money all the time. I've put more real money into it than I care to admit (even to myself). I'm renting, I buy stuff, does that not count as contributing? Ask the shops I've spent money in, my landlord or the owner of my favourite hangout if my money doesn't count. I'm guessing this debate has been had hundreds of times, but really I'm kinda fed up with hearing that basic account holders are responsible for all the woes of the SL world.

As it happens, I was just about to upgrade when the VAT came in, and now I'm not sure what i'm going to do, especially as I can't seem to pay with PayPal now (but that's another story).

I admit to camping a bit during the first week, but when it became apparent that I wasn't going to make a fortune and it's incredibly boring I stopped and got out the old credit card.

If you don't allow people to try out SL before either upgrading or going away, you exclude a lot of people like me who want to "try before you buy". No different from trying a demo skin or shape or whatever, just on a larger scale.

And Raymond, I promise to do my bit of inventory clearing when I get back in world :)

Because they either
1. can't get a real virtual job
2. can't get a RL job (no offence to those with genuine disabilities/sickness etc)
3. are just tightwads
4. believe other people should support them
5. believe $1L costs $1US
6. are in a witness protection program so can't verify (unexplainedly popular)
7. are bots owned by traffic scammers who don't realise paying their own AV's to camp is silly
8. are bots owned by money farmers

Consider how well the economy would work if everyone camped and no one put RL money in? There are thousands of bots on the grid, how much stuff are they buying other than land?
Perhaps if LL were really interested in turning this into CAMPING LIFE, they could allow us to stay logged in even when we turn out computers off.
Basic accounts aren't the problem, ones that don't create, don't put RL money in and don't provide services, well what do they add? Other by being logged in 24/7 hiding that there are MORE SIMS in SL THAN ONLINE ACTIVE RESIDENTS.

Midi said it for me Tegg. A lot of campers are first time tryers, just scraping together a first few L$ to spend in-world. I was. I daresay a lot of others here were also.
I'm not defending the camping system. It stinks up the 'Popular Places' to hell and back. AND jams up sims for the neighbours.

Sae, you are right. My alt with 200 items loads, tps and does everything quicker than my 3500! I dread to imagine what a 100k is like LOL

I'd love to see accounts that have been inactive for a given period, say 6 months purged, but that would be sacrificing the LL Sacred Cow of Total Residents. My inventory has crept up to about 6500, it needs a pruning. Hair is a big offender, i don't buy megagpacks, but smaller ones in one color range, but even among those i wesr one or 2 shades , so some of the others can go. Landmarks are a big one too, every item you buy has a landmark, sometimes a picture an assorted notecards, these can go too. Also in some of the clothing megpacks, there are colors I wouldn't be caught dead in these can go too, and a daresy, there are even some shoes that I don't ever wear.

Some things you can purge: Copies of your copy items. Duplicated landmarks, notecards and floating text. Clothing you no longer wear. Calling cards of people you can't remember. Extra pine trees, underwear and gestures.:)

The only way this would be a good idea...would be if LL gave me $150L for each and every item I decide to delete from my inventory. Most of that stuff I paid for...if LL wants me to lose it, then by god...they're gonna PAY for it.

Until the day comes when I can save/back up my inventory offline...everyone should keep what they pay for. Or even if they didn't pay for it.

The blame for inventory issue falls squarely at the feet of Linden Lab. Nowhere else. They decided they wanted to open up the grid and attract new players by the bucket-load, when the platform wasn't ready to support the concurrent demands placed upon it.

Just check out the new I Am Legend: Survival sim sometime. A great game, a great concept, a cool utilization of SL...but the lag kills it constantly.

I trim up my inventory often...but even then, I still have more than 20K+ items. If I lose more iventory, either through asset-server problems...or by being asked to throw things away to help reduce load...then I'll continue being peeved.

I must admit that I let my inv get out of hand... it's all to easy to forget about trimming out pointless rubbish that accumulates so freely... so I manged to trim from 17k down to 10k in one sitting... will do some more purging when I get the time :)

I went from nearly 18K to 13K this past weekend. I looked at many of the things and I think that is as low as I can get for now.

I have usually around 15k.. most of it stuff I've built. Since I need to get rid of the REALLY old and outdated stuff that I'm too embarrassed to put up as freebies... Buh-bye old crude.

I'm going to shove all my old clothing textures into a prim and if they go poof, oh well. LL eats them whether or not I do it ;) Some will be following the clothing they are on...

And I really need to get rid of the landmarks that are old/never visiting again or something. I wish we could have folders within prims... oh, I wish.

In SL as in RL I've been in clean-out-and-purge mode lately. One of the most fun things was blowing away projects that I'd started months ago when I realized I could recreate them faster and better now from scratch. My inventory is just about 3k right now. I have some questions maybe you Residents can answer on this topic:

1. My "Recent Items" tab shows everything I have. At one time it used to just show what I'd acquired that day or session. How do I reset that?

2. Part of my cleanup involved putting objects in prims and storing them in my cellar. That of course makes my inventory load faster on my screen, but does it alleviate server load at all? Or does it make it worse for my sim?

3. Does a complex, multi-prim object put the same or more load on the database as a notecard or texture?

Wow. Either I'm stupid or it's a stupid system. Or both.

Ok, let the voting start: What items are we all going to delete every existing copy of on the entire grid? Teamwork time, people.

I would think if you make things - and you discard your "empties" (meaning stuff you made but don't need) It would help.

Since as the creator its quite likely you own the only copy.

For example builders and all those pieces you have and saved copies from the creation process.

All those textures you uploaded but didn't use.

Clothing makers, all those botched attempts uploading an item ...

*Because I don't use calling cards I deleted those too. I did find a problem occurred when I did that (I don't remember what) so I learned you do have to have at least one calling card in inventory so that's all I keep now.

It fooks up the Person Chooser for Groups, Land Access/Ban lists, and maybe ARs too...the 'Select' button won't become active if you don't have at least one calling card in inventory. Last time I checked JIRA, they had an internal fix listed, but I don't know if it's been rolled out.

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

Another item you have that would likely be the only existing copy of something is copies you've modified of hair etc. Only keep around the versions you are going to use. Since each version (not copy but version) would be a seperate item.

I keep a few freebies. A FEW. Mostly those things that are modifiable and good looking. The rest are going in my next inventory purge.
