Well considering one of the 'children' in this thread publicly posted her support of child sex in this very forum two days ago, I'd hardly call it eradicated.

More of a neutral stance imho, not giving support.

Lots of arguments can be made for allowing and disallowing it. But it boils down to would it prevent or cause person X to commit the acts in RL. Some would not since they get the fix virtually, some would because virtual would not satisfy them (much like many feel cybersex is worthless because it does not excite them)

You know, in most jurisdictions, an actual crime is required for incarceration, as opposed to the opinions of daft posters on messageboards.

Gee, I dunno, doesn't read like "support" as much as refusing to condemn. It's still a legitimate argument, I think, that it's an error to confound "child sex" with "child av pixel sex." The former is a heinous crime; the latter is just icky.

And it's also an account-terminating violation of Community Standards, of course, so it's not exactly something for the Showcase nor SL5B--and anything confounding it with child AVs in general is Very Not Helpful.

------------

FWIW, the relevance of Goreans and BDSM in any SL5B context is that these were both listed as sample "cultures" that might be represented in proposals for participation. So it's not just an abstract association, nor one linking child AVs with prurient interests.

Truth. (^_^)

And, please excuse my unpopular opinion. It's not like I was quiet about it from the beginning. I still regret the things I said in my old AR thread... But I take none of them back and admit to have learned my lesson in practice. (=_=)y

Though to be honest it does'nt take a judge and jury for the common or garden civillian to work out who is to be avoided.

Pondering outloud ...
So if there is a SL Burning Man this yr, expect it to be another censorfest?

I would guess it would be dependent on the nature of any news stories that come out at that time.

As opposed to the last one?

This could have been a perfect opportunity to show what roleplaying as a child is about, and counter some of the rumors and allegations against child avatars.

I've seen a couple people say this, and it makes me shake my head. Let's be realistic here, nobody in the media and definitely no politicians are going to change their tune due to anything within SL itself. In case you haven't noticed, most negative media representations of SL are almost completely fabricated stories written by people who clearly zeroed in on just what they wanted to see, and I highly doubt any of the politicians railing against SL have ever even logged in. A child build wouldn't have any affect on the allegations against child avatars; it would at most show up as a screenshot behind a news anchor talking about locations in SL that lure children in.

Try to keep thing in perspective though. How many people even care about this event? I certainly had no idea there was a birthday celebration until I saw this thread.

I actually cared. I have gone to this event and the burning man each year since I have been here. I will miss it this year.

I am very dissapointed in this decision of Linden Labs.

I guess this year I will just spend more time in the The Garden of NPIRL Delights. Thank goodness there are independent groups and builds out there.

From the blog,
"This MAY also mean that Child Avatars will NOT be allowed at the SL5B celebrations."

If this is the case, maybe all those who oppose this can all wear the same avatar in protest and attend the SL5B anyway, just not a child one. Maybe all the same Tiny av wearing a Guy Fawkes mask. A peaceful (and fun!) protest. Picture it, dozens of little bunnies or kitties wearing the same mask...

I actually have a mask in SL. My nickname at school was V. (no, just because of my name. Really. Okay, I did blow up some stuff in chemistry once...)

I'd love to come as a Borrible though, which is one of my fave avatars in SL. Looks like a kid but will shoot your balls off with a slingshot.

THAT's the kind of "kids" to be afraid of! :D

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

And for the most part, all the communities can function in a PG setting. (even BDSM and Gor, it's just in how they dress)

The area I hang out at most of the time is open to everyone. We have kids who are very active in the community. We have BDSM people who are very active in the community. Both groups get along with each other just fine.

As I said, another. *sigh*
I was hoping LL would rem us as a whole and that we are adults, in any form,
but this SL5B notice is disheartening.
It's a strange freedom they've planned for us.

Second Life's 5th birthday is ahead, but this year one of the biggest communities, the kids community, will not be allowed to contribute to the big celebration:

http://secondlifechildren.blogspot.com/

Kid avatars *might* even be not allowed to visit!

Where is SL going? People who break no rules, who simply decided to live their second life as a kid, who just want to participate and celebrate this world they are a part of, this world they contribute to big time, are censured and pushed out now?

Who will be next?

Actually this move by the committee does not surprise me one iota... Yes this is a committee move NOT a LL move.

The committee this year while attempting in good faith to run throw a great bash however, it is organizing a sham. This committee is hell bent on being exclusionary like last year.. but this year it comes with a twist, 1 year old drama.

I have voiced my concerns and objections with this committee and it seems that instead of reason, the dictatorship that is running the organizing committee of SLB5 has refused to meet with me and my staff in order to discuss their reasons for omitting 1 or more from the bash...

If this committee is what LL had intended in the first place, I welcome them to contact me so we can resolve this issue.

thanks
