OP has only 3 posts. I'm always suspicious of low post numbers pared with potential troll subjects. The real question is ~ when will this qualify as a Friday thread? Thursday is the new Friday! |

hi Special, First off ::checks profile inworld:: welcome to Second Life. There are many different ways one exists in Second Life. Some are just people, while others take forms fantastic and mundane. You will find furries, dragons, robots, and even people in forms you may never have imagined. Many opt to play kids for a number of different reasons, some of which you'll find on Second Life's wiki at http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Child_Avatar I can understand your feelings towards child avatars. They're not for everyone. I know I was unsure of them when I first joined as well, but it wasn't long before I tried being one -- and found it to be a lot of fun and very rewarding. Anyway, one need not associate with any avatars they're uncomfortable with, which is one of the pleasure of this world. I personally am glad that Hallowe'en is past so that all the Zombie avatars will be going back in the virtual closet. ![]() If you would like any further information about kid avvies, please don't hesitate to drop me a line. Anyway, I hope you enjoy your time in SL /me admires Mari's measured, friendly, and rational approach to an OP that must, surely, have her rolling her eyes and thinking "Oh god, not again . . ." I am taking notes assiduously. One day, when I grow up, I want to sound this sane. ![]() _____________________

We just recycled some of her old posts and put them together, kind of like how Frank Zappa ould take several parts of several different concert recordings of songs and make one out of it. |

Hasn't anyone else thought certain things were "weird" when they first started in SL and later have their minds changed after finding out more about what it was all about? When I first came to SL, I avoided child avatars. They unnerved me. Whenever I saw one, I'd leave. So I can understand when other people feel that way. Then one day in Tombstone (a Western roleplay sim) I ran into a child av who was so adorable that I found myself talking to her. That conversation changed things for me and I began talking to the kids I ran into around SL. And I began to think about having a child avatar myself, but never acted on the impulse... it was just a thought. Until one day when a particular blog made a pretty disgusting attack on a well-known child avatar, and I found myself thinking, "If people like *this* are against it, there must be something good in it." That gave me the push I needed. Since then I've worked on my avatar, trying to get the look right. And that's what it is: a look. It's not roleplay, or therapy, or a search for lost innocence. It's just an avatar. It's the way I want to look. |

I don't agree with much of what she says, nor certainly with her conclusions, but I do find her generally well-informed and interesting. Melodie has called me her "fan girl" on one occasion at least ( ), which is hardly accurate, but I do actually find what she has to say interesting. I learn a great deal from people with whom I disagree.![]() As for the carnage . . . well, I was being serious too. I don't think my delicate sensibilities can handle another full-scale thermonuclear exchange today. ![]() ![]() _____________________

Hey, does anybody know whether this question has ever been asked on Second Answers? I'm not sure HOW you'd ask this? The format that they insist upon wouldn't exactly fit well, would it? Besides, I'm pretty sure it would melt their servers or something. _____________________

Ok, now I'm picturing an innocent-looking child with curly hair, a frilly dress and red, glowing eyes standing beside a guillotine... O.o ![]() _____________________

Well let's see.... we ran Pep out of town for one thing. I've forgotten the others but they were all exciting. For the record, I stay away from kids inworld; more of a problem is that they turn up in these forums . . . Pep ( . . . posting in contradictory half-assed unconvincing ways that makes a mockery of their rp.) _____________________

There's a lot of weird stuff in SL. I like that. As my oldest SL friend says: The only weird one is the one who isn't. I always loved this insight. |

Hiiiiiiiiiiiya, Pep!!! ![]() (psssst! Brenda! Quick - toss me that duct tape!) Pep (Feel free to try though; a sense of humour as well as a sense of proportion might work, but the use of them has been sorely lacking among the dunderheads.) _____________________

The whole grid is a place too. Don't play word games. The point of this thread is to mock the OP. Get in the game, k? Indeed, I went and derailed myself didn't I? _____________________

Well excuse me for breathing your royal highness but I presumed that I lived in a free world with free speech silly me Oh and Healthy family bond has nothing to do with virtual infantilism by the wayHere is another self-centered person who thinks forums have anything to do with free speech. Let me point something out. "Free speech", in the United States, means the GOVERNMENT can not regulate your speech. It *doesn't* mean you can say anything you want, any place, any time. OK - you can all go back to being silly now. ![]() |

What about those cartoony virtual worlds like IMVU where all avatars look like kids because of the big heads?
