(End well. Won't.
)hi Special, First off ::checks profile inworld:: welcome to Second Life. There are many different ways one exists in Second Life. Some are just people, while others take forms fantastic and mundane. You will find furries, dragons, robots, and even people in forms you may never have imagined. Many opt to play kids for a number of different reasons, some of which you'll find on Second Life's wiki at http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Child_Avatar I can understand your feelings towards child avatars. They're not for everyone. I know I was unsure of them when I first joined as well, but it wasn't long before I tried being one -- and found it to be a lot of fun and very rewarding. Anyway, one need not associate with any avatars they're uncomfortable with, which is one of the pleasure of this world. I personally am glad that Hallowe'en is past so that all the Zombie avatars will be going back in the virtual closet. ![]() If you would like any further information about kid avvies, please don't hesitate to drop me a line. Anyway, I hope you enjoy your time in SL (an sorry I'm late to the thread) _____________________

No, it isn't. Avatars depicting minors are not allowed near to adult objects. It's a CS violation. I didn't say they were not allowed in adult regions. I said adult places. _____________________

I have not read the whole thread yet, as I am still popping corn... But is it for real? Only read the first post! OP has only 3 posts. I'm always suspicious of low post numbers pared with potential troll subjects. The real question is ~ when will this qualify as a Friday thread? _____________________

They are allowed in the visual proximity other kinds of adult objects, such as working scripted guillotines. Ok, now I'm picturing an innocent-looking child with curly hair, a frilly dress and red, glowing eyes standing beside a guillotine... O.o _____________________

Anyway, I hope you enjoy your time in SL (an sorry I'm late to the thread) I was very unsure of child avatars when I first started in SL as well. I think I came on board around the time of all the media surrounding age play and pedophiles lurking in the dark corners of SL. Lots of things in SL were new to me from the kids to furries, talking tummies, to clicking on parts that said 95% ... Part of my initial experience and feelings towards kids in SL were probably a result of media portrayals, how the new friends I had made felt about them and one particular experience I had in my first week. I was at a regular type of dance club when I saw a guy dressed up in leather chaps holding hands with his pre-teen looking and scantily dressed "son". The sexualized manner in which they were speaking to one another creeped me right out and I left right away. It really wasn't until a few weeks later that my perception of child avatars changed after reading this interview featuring Marianne McCann. http://nwn.blogs.com/nwn/2007/11/mere-childs-pla.html While it might not be something for me, I could understand why some folks might choose to appear as kids in SL after reading that article. I became less worried about being in the company of kids and soon saw the big contribution they made to the community as a whole. I soon took building classes from amazing kid teachers, and saw some of their really cool builds at SL events. I don't know if this thread was meant to start drama or not, but I do know that if you talked to me during my first week in SL, I'd probably have a similar attitude as the OP. It was only after keeping an open mind and listening to the calm and thorough explanations of the rationale behind kid avs from people like Marianne did my perceptions change. Now I think the kid community in SL is pretty cool. Hasn't anyone else thought certain things were "weird" when they first started in SL and later have their minds changed after finding out more about what it was all about? _____________________

A region is a place, an object is a thing. The whole grid is a place too. Don't play word games. The point of this thread is to mock the OP. Get in the game, k? _____________________
