You know, there IS a difference between oldbie bashing and offering an opinion that certain groups/sub-groups DO act cliquishly. You do see the difference, right?
Regardless of the tone or the language, the opinion is still a valid one whether you agree with it from your perspective or not, whether "bashing" goes on or not.

Valid opinion as in "everyone has a right to one"... absolutely. Valid as in an accurate representation of reality... nope. I'm one of those hardcore early adopters and I don't fit the myth at all, nor do any of the other old timers I associate with. Like Prokofy's vision of the world, it amounts to a rather bitter assumption that has little basis in reality.

I see the difference. They are just side issues clouding the real facts. This thread is about Prokofy harassing Pahoa.

This thread is about Prokofy harassing Pahoa. Actually, I first saw it (and still see it - minus the bashing Korg/Prokofy diversion) as somethign qutie different... hence my initial post. YMMV and probably does based on your previous responses.

I'm too old to be a newbie and too new to be an oldbie...
I guess I'm the 'Gen X' of SL...
Then again, I never really gave the old/new much thought anyways - in a months time the whole demographic will shift again and we'll see another incarnation of this thread...
I recall something about giant billboards in Clementia oh so very far back in the mists of last year.....
Siggy.

Those weren't giant billboards -- that was the clothesline you built and put up to dry out your giant boxers. Shame you never got those skid marks out, even after scripting Clorox.

I'm one of those hardcore early adopters and I don't fit the myth at all, nor do any of the other old timers I associate with. Like Prokofy's vision of the world, it amounts to a rather bitter assumption that has little basis in reality. Of course you would not see it that way. You are, despite claims to the contrary, part of the oldbie clique. That is neither a good nor a bad thing. It DOES color, I assert, your interpretation of things - including your reading/responding to any/every post in this thread. The opinion has some basis in reality - I can vouch for it being based in reality as I see it and have experienced it here. I am actually neither as bitter as some believe I am nor as curmudgeonly as I come across ---- still, that I have observed what I define as cliquish behavior within the oldbie community is indisputable. If you try to dispute it, you are either calling me a liar or you are calling me stupid - meaning I am incapable of recognizing what cliquish behavior is or that I don't know what the word means. Whether you see yourself as fitting any myth or not is irrelevant to my opinion or that of Prokofy - and is actually irrelevant to the reality of whether cliques exist or not. Seriously, look the word up. It is not a derogatory term - but it can pick up negative aspects through socio-cultural interpretation that differs from the book defiiniton. Hell, I have been a member of a number of cliques - still am in certain aspects of both SL and Real Life. So what? Doesn't make me a bad person.... nor does recognizing that cliques exist in SL make the people in them "bad". What I - and apparently Prokofy, tho I am not speaking for him here - have noticed is that certain cliques DO act as groups - often against an individual not IN that clique. IMNHO, this is a result of their perspective/achievements/egos being threatened. You can disagree or not... and most probably will. Personally, I don't care if you agree or believe this - for me, it is a reality that most people tend towards optimisim rather than trying to view reality in a nuetral manner. But there is defensive optimism and true optimism... and there is denial couched as optimism.... certain people within the oldbie community definitely fall into the last category in my opinion.... and that has shown itself in this thread.

Ahhhh so, now the truth comes out! You *are* one of those men who gives that item in your crotch inventory a name! Nothing like being on a first-name basis with your best friend, is there?

Er, nope... not at all. I'm saying that your observations are colored by your own bias. We all have them... myself included. Any of our rather narrow views of the SL world as individuals are insufficient basis for sweeping characterizations. The only difference between us in our ability to divine what reality is is the amount of time we've had to observe the people we're trying to make generalizations about. Trying to dress the issues up in an "old versus new" costume is an oversimplification of types of behavior that occur throughout SL's playerbase... old or new. You just choose to point to it in one specific demographic and ignore the probability that it's not actually more prevalent in it. It's just the one you're focused on. As I've said before, I very often find myself in agreement with you... I just don't realize it due to your often vitriolic writing style.

As I've said before, I very often find myself in agreement with you... I just don't realize it due to your often vitriolic writing style. I chose to express one of a number of perspectives and conclusions I have and have drawn from my time here. Check my post again closely - I am not indicitng ALL oldbies... which is an argitrary designation... I AM saying that **I** specifically see such behavior in a group **I** identify as oldbies. Note that no one has asked me how that group is defined. Instead, the response has been defensive and argumentative.... absolutely predictable in one sense. Sweeping generalizations? I pretty much covered myself in the specifics of my original wording. I fyou want additional clarification - ask. I didn't ignore shit as far as probability of whatever you think is important. I considered what I wanted to and what I thought was important before I posted... I am not in your head nor you mine. Don't presume to tell me what I did or did not do in coming to any conclusion. As for focus... a post does not make "focus". It simply is a post. I have more opinions than are contained in this thread - and even on issues raised in this sub-thread of the thread. Focus? Laughable.

I'm no more able to read your mind than you're able to read the minds of every player of every category... which you'd have to be in able to give any kind of accurate assessment of attitudes and their relation to how long someone has been in world. Just saying that there is cliqueish behavior among long time players is about as meaninful as saying that some oldbies don't like to eat cheese products and then claiming that being around since beta creates lactose intolerance.
