More land extorsion: W-Hat group

Two days ago I bought land in Baku. Much of Baku belongs to one group called W-Hat and one of their members approached me about buying my land, offering low price below market. When I refused he told me they would be able to buy it cheap soon anyway because nobody wants to live next to them, pointing me at one junkyard of items on their plot in the sim.

The next day my land was littered with junk from them. I remove it.

Today my land was littered with junk again. And they have bought one little 512sqm piece in the middle of my land and littered it with ugly, moving rotating headache producing junk, deeply overlapping into neighbour plots. That very 512sqm piece has also been set for sale for 20000 L$.

Well, I thought I would share this with you. Of course I filed abuse report, but last time I reported similar case in other sim nothing happened. So I would also like to hear from one Linden what policy is on this kinda behaviour. Or is this one valid business practise to force people sell their land cheap or to extort money from neighbours?

I lived in Baku -- I had an itty bitty 512 plot next to them -- and while they didn't try to junk me out, the red bars around their plot and the ugly factory build was so unpleasant that I just sold my land to them. They aren't fun neighbors.

Back to the topic tho. I agree that is very annoying and very clear what they are doing. I hope that the lindens do take notice. Highly unlikely tho. I think they have more pressing matters to deal with.

It is atrocious behaviour. Anshe, how about building very high walls on your land around their small plot. Make the walls high enough and they will need an X flight carbon rod to go high enough to reach their land. You can put an attractive texture on your side and leave their's default. Is this against the TOS?

Well, I wonder what can be more pressing than members in one online community blackmailing other members for money or land.

Just last week another person called Biffy Pendragon started to pull off similar things to extort money from people and his extorsion towers have still not been removed by Lindens. I know at least one person who gave in and bought him out.

I predict this will practise will spread rapidly if people can get away with it

Attached you find one of Biffy's towers (located in Ontario). It has rapidly flickering and moving red/green textures that are very good at produce headaches or crash certain GFX cards.

What difference does it make how much money she has? It's acceptable to act this way as long as your victim has money? Utter bullshit.

Do something about it. Blackmail them yourself. Hire someone to take care of them for you. Call in a favor. You control most of SL. Why are you complaining to us?

Sorry, I don't subscribe to that particular conspiracy theory. Money in SL is not power, it's money. She can buy a lot in world, or she can cash out and buy a Honda. That's about it.

I don't see what my finances in world or out has to do with it. If W-Hat was doing this to anyone else, everyone would be calling them assholes, but because they're doing it to someone with money, it's okay. No, it isn't. They're being assholes. They're griefing. Regardless of who the victim is, the act is the same. To claim otherwise is just hypocricy.

If ANYONE has had problems with W-Hat, it's been me. No doubt, not for a second.

But Anshe is practically a Linden Lab board member at this point. I don't understand why she's going to the forums for sympathy. Hell, she could hire a lawyer for a -pittance- .

Anshe is a RL millionaire who has passed at least one million USD through SL.

This is something else. If she had a problem, she'd solve it. Maybe she will eventually "solve" W-Hat. I wouldn't mind that.

I'm with Jonquille on this one. Ok, Anshe's richer than all hell and it's pennies if she buys these guys out. But, y'know, W-Hat does that to other people as well and I think that is also part of her point. I was not threatened personally when I lived next to their VERY tall wall, but I WAS on this 512 plot of land and they'd bought the folks behind me, in front of me, and were gaining on the land on the other side as well. They've got rotating objects and particles up the wazoo. I do not blame her one bit.
