From: Nolan Nash Are you licensed to practice in all 50 states and all the countries in which the diverse population of SL dwell? Or is this just a scare tactic in hopes of modifying behavior? Lawyers are not "licensed" they are "admitted" by the State Bar Association. Any lawyer knows practicing outside that realm is not permitted, in any form.

From: katykiwi Moonflower Cris, did you bother reading my specific references to specific examples and specific acts? Or are you making generalizations as you are accusing me of doing. I was pretty specific. I threw nothing no matter how you seem to be catching it lately. I have read every one of your posts, including the riduclous one where you equate posting a picture of people running from Godzilla (a Japanese film, taking place in Tokyo, hence JAPANESE PEOPLE IN THE PICTURE) as somehow analagous to some bullshit about Aunt Jemima. I also saw the one where because Aimee and Forseti disagree with you, they support racism. I can certainly tell you are an attorney. You speak in double-speak, evade, and twist things like only an attorney can. You know what really upsets me? People who know absolutely nothing about being on the receiving end of racism telling people how racist they are.

From: katykiwi Moonflower We arent holding ourselves out to be attorneys...we are, in fact, in reality, real life honest to goodness licensed attorneys. Imagine that! WOW! There's a bar exam in SL? 'Drat ... I missed the window. I was gonna set up shop to administer the bar exam so that I could collect the fees. So many new businesses this week!!

Then you, of all people, should know the dangers and liabilities of attempting to pass yourself off as empowered to practice law outside the state in which you are member of The Bar. Indeed, the very idea that you would present yourself as a legal representative in the digital domain would be the singular reason NOT to engage your services.

I would point out though that I went and dug out my lawyer's biz card and it states: "Licensed in Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin and the Dakotas." I think the reason lawyers advertize it like that is because it's simply more easily conveyed to the layperson. I of course agree with you 100% about the legality of it all.

From: Cid Jacobs Especially if it's a "new country" Well, claiming represent a person or class's best interest, outside the state of admission will get a lawyer in hot water real fast. Playing the RL "I'm a lawyer" card to gain leverage in a virtual world, such nonsense. Talk about misrepresentation. Advocating for a group with credibility issues does not tell me much about the claims of these so-called lawyers. Any lawyer worth his/her salt could not be bothered to represent flakes like this group has. At 200+ dollars per hour for trial lawyers, you represent a land baron, a banned troll (among other trolls), and money traders pro bono?. Gimme a freakin break. I call bullshit.

I would be very interested to discover where these attorneys practice. I cannot imagine the local bar association would in any fashion condone this activity.
Then again, maybe our friendly legal eagles are looking for standing from which to bring a challenge?
This would just about do it, I'm thinking.

This would just about do it, I'm thinking. Legally, when a lawyer gives appearance to be practicing law, that lawyer is legally bound to provide where he/she is admitted. They cannot claim to be acting in a clients best interest and hiding behind a privacy guildline to shield them from public recourse. So to the two lawyers who claim to be that, where are you admitted?. Let's put it to your Bar.

Actually katy, you aren't "accepting legal representation" which would mean you are currently looking for an attorney to represent you. You are "providing legal representation". I reserve my own judgement for after I see your credentials posted so that we can fact check them.
Anyone can claim to be anything here. I find your claims dubious and your attempts to turn statements back on the parties making them rather than providing answers just plain obvoius.

Any lawyer, when appearing to practice law, MUST, when asked, disclose the bar of admission. But I don't expect you to know that.

From: Fiona Peregrine Anyone can claim to be anything here. Thanks Fiona, this is exactly why I think it's ridiculous for people to try and leverage a debate based upon what they claim to be in RL.

Ah, of course, just like a lawyer. When things aren't going well, you just skip logical argument, do a little name calling, crabbily say "I have places to be, I have a life you know" and run out of court as fast as you can.
Got it.

Go fuck yourself!' 'ahhhh hmmmmmm mmmmmmmmmmm I'll sue you in RL' 'Yeah and I'll give your wife something to hang her towels on... G.F.Y!'

HA! I can't believe I've gotten this far in life without hearing this particular gem. I wish I could use it without people looking at me like I have a third leg.
