From: Aliasi Stonebender They tried, but then the vampires got them. It was a simple matter to addict all of the vampires to Tringo and, while caught in the stupor and concentration of the game, send in a squad of Sith. Then we sent in some Jedi to take care of the Sith. We're still working on what to do about the Jedi. Maybe send the Trekkies after them. Well played.

Anyhoot, I figure I owe everyone an explanation.
First off, I've like anthropomorphic animals and transformation stuff for a while now. I found out about the furry fandom but I was greatly 'turned off' by all the smut I saw around. (Smut being furry pornographic images, the act of "yiffing" etc etc) I really didn't want to be around that sort of stuff, and I didn't want anyone to know I liked anthro stuff because it was kind of odd in a way =P
With my recent stays in Luskwood, however, I saw that a lot of furries weren't into the furry fandom for the smut/porn/yiffing/etc. These were folks I really got along with and to who I enjoyed talking. So, I finally just caved and proclaimed myself a furry.
I gave furries a hard time before because I thought the fandom was a sexual-based fetish, but Luskwood's residents showed me otherwise. Even though it's not my place to judge folks, I'm wary of all the furry smut. Like someone said in this thread, however, "If you don't like it, don't look!" or something to that effect. That being said, I enjoy being a furry in Luskwood.
So, all-in-all, I figured I owed some folks who participated in this thread an apology.
So, uh,... sorry ^^;
I just don't like the way folks see furries as a sexual-based fetish. I suppose that's the same as saying all Christians hate gays. Most might, but some don't. Ah *shrugs* my analogies are horrible, eh? =P

Well so what if its all sexually fetishy stuffs? I mean, I dont see you here ranting about how SL being free is going to have the place overrun with all kinds of people wanting to do BDSM and be prostitutes and have girlie bars and sex shows and the like...
oh wait it is....
Well you still aren't ranting about it. And regardless of whether furries just want to be cute little rabbits and foxes or want to do things with abnormally large genitalia or anything in between -- what business is it of yours and how does that make it ok to hate them?
I'm new to SL but I've been playing online games a long long time now and the furries have always taken a lot of flack for being furries. Its kind of like every one else can have their kink and their sex and their cyber but not the furries. Everyone else can cyber to their hearts content and its ok to be hypocrites and beat down the furries for it. And everytime I ask why do you hate them so, its all "well they are all about the sexxors."
Dude I've been playing online games for nigh on 10 years now and damn near everyone is all about the sex.
I'm not a furry. I don't even have friends that are furries. And I don't understand the genre and/or kink even a little. But I've never seen the furry folks be griefers like I have some other people. When I started the game, and I looked down the list of events, what I saw was a lot of sex events by so-called *normal* folks -- "come to our gorean master/slave auction/collaring/nightclub/shopping -- come and see girls XXXXX nothign could be sexxier! -- free nudie girls come and look! -- and of course the tringo/slingo/blood21/freeslots/etc" I swear going down the events list is somewhat akin to being in the red-light district of any major city only worse. And its not that I have a problem with any of this. I just bring it up because you know what I did NOT see? Furries. No where was "Come to our naked furry event and see just how big we can make our naughty bits!" or anything of the sort. The sex stuff was all by *normals*. Near as I can tell -- the furries are in the minority with all the smut.
Not that that should make one bit of difference. Even if they were in the majority its not right to dis them.
I'm not seeing how beating down on these people makes anything any better or how it makes anything good. Maybe if folks cut them a little slack and let them have their own fun and accepted them they wouldn't ignore non-furry people in Furnation. Hell if I'd been beaten down as often as they have, I'd sure resent non-furs in 'my place.'
I'm just sayin that discrimination is ugly -- regardless of what its aimed at. Sorry if this post is out of line.

Kind of a shame to see all the Furry hate going on. I've been playing an otter AV since I joined up in June and have had nothing but positive encounters with fello wusers, bith human and otherwise. Guess I shouldn't be surprised that they're out there. Guess these people got bored with bashing Trekkers, so now it's open season on furs, which is just sad. Any organized group is gonna have a few freaks and wierdos who take things too far. Judge the person, not the AV.

From: Cristiano Midnight Especially the rabbits O_o Somehow, I can't help but feel singled out by this. I'm not a furry but I'm often referred to one because of my AV and name. I'm simply someone who likes rabbits and thought "Harris Hare" would make a mildly clever name. In fact, I had always planned on making myself appear as a rabbit because I thought it would help my avatar stand out and be unique. Of course, I quickly found out after I arrived that there was already this big furry presence in SL and rabbits were a dime a dozen but that didn't stop me from still buying a nice rabbit AV and sticking with it. Actually, a nice side affect was that I got to meet many of the real furries in Lusk and such and so far they've all been really cool, friendly people. On the other end of the spectrum, I do get stopped almost daily by folks in the sandboxes who think my rabbit AV cool and/or cute looking and they aren't furries. Just people who appreciate a nicely made AV.

From: Kujila Maltz I was in the process of writing a long, well-though response about my negative past experiences with the furry fandom over the years, but then I teleported to Furnation Alpha and witnessed large amounts of furry porn strewn around on single, flat prims. So I decided not to write the post and base my contempt of the growing furry population of SecondLife solely on that. =) I have been here for about a month. Not long at all especially compared to you, I know, but a bit more than last Wednesday ^^ /111/28/61393/1.htmlAll my 70 posts gone, gone, gone =D Oh well. I donated a dollar to Katrina when a black person came to my door selling candy. Plus I got candy. You have no chance to survive, make your time! =/ Or the furry fandom haunts my very nightmares =P I know I have a friend who's furry...-esque. =P I just perceive the furry fandom here on SecondLife (as well as on Furcadia) as very sexual-oriented (See furnation and the furry porn often found floating around =P) so I object to it. Allowed? Perhaps. Can I whine? Certainly, plus you guys type out long responses that I can read and enjoy ^^ ZOMG FURRY XD So I suppose I'm 65% trolling, 35% genuine concern. Seems as tho ur not only anti furry ur racist as well im sure that dollar went a real long way to help katrina victims and did you have to say a "black" person why not someone doing a fund raiser came to your door?

Furries are a combination of human and animal. Human and dragon(dragons with human intellect are as well), human and butterfly, human and fish(mermaid), human and snake(Naga), human and goat(sayter) are all considered furries even though they may or may not actually have fur.

I'm curious if this bit is directed towards my own comments. I have not the slightest problem with furries. I have a mild interest in anthromorphic stuff myself, although I don't consider myself a "fur". I do have a problem with rudeness and those that commit the same sin as those they claim to be against; judging through appearance. Furthermore, judging through appearance in a place where all appearance is illusionary.

Aliasi;
I had to go back to page three to find which post of yours you refer to. I hadn't aimed that comment specifically at you but can see how it might be seen that way. In truth, by the time I got to page 15, I had just remembered several people saying how some folks in Furnation are rude and ignore non-furs that are there. It might have only been you that said that but I assure you I in no way meant to flame you or cast dispersions on your post. I apologize if I gave offense to you. It was not my intent to do so.
Rudeness - yeah bad but you can find rudeness anywhere. From what I hear (oh please forgive me those that are gother than thou) Transylvannia is not the friendliest of places unless you want to bite or be bitten. I've not been there yet so I don't know. The truth is that cliques will be insular, those that have been ostracized will tend to ostracization themselves, if purely from a defensive posture, and that that those who have been ridiculed and humiliated because of their lifestyle choices and desires tend to react from a defensive posture.
I just hate seeing anyone get beat down for being the way they are and the furs have taken more than their share of the hate for many many years -- not just here but on many worlds and in countless games. On mud boards back in the 90s people used to post about going to FurryMUCK (text based Furnation for all intents and purposes) just to harass the folks there. I thought it sucked then and I think it even more so now. I'm sorry folks are rude to you when you go to Furnation but I can understand why they might be that way. I know I'm making an excuse for bad behavior but sometimes its those that haven't been beaten down that need to take the extra step and be more understanding so that old wounds can heal.
My reply was aimed mainly at the original poster. I find it hypocritical in the extreme for anyone to call one group of people out for being too sexual when sexuality in every friggin one of its myriad forms is alive, healthy and rampant on every mature sim in the world and on some of the PG ones as well. I think if one dislikes any of this stuff then one should take steps to retrict themselves to the PG areas (something I hear LL will do for you) or even find a nicer, more PC world to live in. If one does not care for large genitalia then one should stay out of those areas where one is likely to find them.
I have other, not quite as nice things to say about those who get their friends to join solely to grief others and to reap the 1K bonus.

From: Verbena Pennyfeather Yes, furries are cheap! The (accurate) stereotype of the 300lbs virgin male who lives in his moms basement and showers once a month..that's yer typical furry. Not much in the way of disposable income. Hopefully they will stick in "AnsheCorp presents "The Forest" tm)", or Furnation Worlds Full of Dhrama"*grin* That's just mean. I'm not a furry, but I have known some people who loved it. I even ran a Furry BBS back in the days before the Internet was king. Out of all the furries I've known, I don't think I met a single 300lb guy, and only a small few that lived with their mothers. Most of the furries I've known have been college students or gainfully employed individuals, relatively attractive in their own right, and ALL of them have been intelligent, articulate individuals. That's more than I can say for many of the people I've met in SL so far. So it seems to me that the fur folk represent the cream of the crop, not the dregs.

Verbena is talking stereotypes and we all know how inaccurate those can be. Furry runs the entire gammut from PHds to engineers to web admins to clergy to movie animators all the way to the basement dwelling zeta male.
