Furry presence decreases - due to lack of funds?

FurNation Worlds blipped offline today. I hear that their problem may be to do with the now-defunct dwell-time awards - if so, I'm not surprised, since I don't see how they could be bringing in any more than one or two sims-worth in store rental and donation.
Personally, I think places like FurNation Worlds and The Forest are just the sort of sims things that should be attracting awards. They have built communities. It would be nice if Linden Labs could figure out some way of providing awards without so much gaming of the system that it becomes unworkable. Perhaps some kind of voting system? For what it's worth, I have green spiky hair and I'm a furry (it was an attempt to get as close as possible to my species with the original avatar). As for sports, who's for furry beach volleyball?  |

Linden Labs started phasing out the developer incentives with the promise of replacing it with a newer system properly geared towards communities like FurNation. It's just a shame that they didn't hang on and give it a chance. On the other hand, it might be a while off and I've heard no announcement about the replacement yet.

Hmm... see, the furries I know RL actually *do* hit ALL of the stereotypes I know of. Best example: my one-time neighbor (he was my neighbor back when I still lived with my parents... until I turned 18 and got a life and a job and moved out...). Rather large male who I have only seen go out a couple times, and always with other furries, still lives with his parents at... god, he's probably close to 40 by now, has a girlfriend 2200 miles away, who became pregnant as a result of a huge furry orgy that he wasn't involved in and had twins as a result, which he refers to as 'the litter' and is PERFECTLY OKAY with, and really, honest to go believes he is actually a cat. Not that he the soul of a cat, or is a cat trapped in a human body, but that he is ACTUALLY a cat.
But all of the furries I know online are slightly weird, but friendly, mostly well-adjusted, and fun. So long as they don't tell me about their weird fantasies, it's all good. But, oh god, the furry porn... oh god, the furries at the *cons... just... ugh... That said... *ahem* OMG FREE ACCOUNTS WILL ATTRACT ALL THE TREKKIES! THE DAMN 40 YO OVERWEIGHT MEN WITH THEIR EARS!!! Oh god, THE EARS!!!! And the KLINGONS!!! TREKKIES SHOULD DIE!!! And all these Linux users? We all know how they like them their 'free' stuff. And their 'alternative' stuff. If ya know what I mean. And I mean they're all a bunch of free-lovin' butt-bangers. And people who want to play a whole LIFE online! I mean, what's wrong with them?! I bet you they all live in their parents' basements banging off to KIDDIE PORN!!!!1111 Oh yeah, I went there. *wanders off in her 'fuzzy dragon-winged fox wearing a labcoat and linux shirt' avatar* |

Yes, furries are cheap! The (accurate) stereotype of the 300lbs virgin male who lives in his moms basement and showers once a month..that's yer typical furry. Not much in the way of disposable income. Hopefully they will stick in "AnsheCorp presents "The Forest"  tm)", or Furnation Worlds Full of Dhrama"*grin*Wow, yet another geek trying to play "less geeky than thou" games. You just hit Furries with the same stereotype used to whack on Sci-Fi Fans, Trekkies, Computer Nerds, Anime/Manga Fans, and pretty much every OTHER type of geek in existence. What a moron. Obviously, Verbena's got a personal problem and has "truth issues"...right off the bat, Furries run the Ginko Financial system and some of the largest multi-island sims in existence...hardly an indication that they don't have money. Not to mention that when one of their own had his home destroyed by Hurricane Katrina, the FurNation staff hosted a donation drive that ultimately raised several thousand US dollars from fellow furry fans.
